Chapter 29: A Normal Reaction
“She will come.”
“She won’t come.”
“She will come.”
“She won’t come.”
…
Inside the Lizi Suite, Feng Nanming held the exquisite wine that he’d prepared with one hand as he counted the petals on the table.
His heart was fluttering like a butterfly.
Even though Feng Nanming was already 25-years-old, he’d been focused on training himself ever since he was a child and never had the chance to fall in love or date a woman.
Which was why he was still a greenhorn when it came to relationships between men and women.
His affection for Ji Mingyue wasn’t exactly what people would call love at first sight since he’d never even seen her face once.
The reason he was interested in Ji Mingyue of the Embracing Moon Brothel was that he’d heard from others that her music could assist one in achieving higher enlightenment.
As soon as Feng Nanming learned of that, he had a desire to make her his.
Even though he had ulterior motives for making her fall for him, he wasn’t the kind of person who would abandon others. If they really became a couple, he vowed to treat her nicely.
The only thing that was troubling Feng Nanming was the information he had on Ji Mingyue. From what he could tell, the lady wasn’t someone who would accept a man’s invitation easily.
For the past three years, Ji Mingyue was never involved in a single scandal and had never attended to a single customer.
He began to wonder if his action of inviting her to drink at their first meeting was too disrespectful.
Feng Nanming was afraid that she would mistake him for another horny man that just wanted to sleep with her.
Honestly speaking, Feng Nanming was very tense. He even started to regret listening to his seniors’ advice to invite her to drink expensive wine with him.
If his request angered Ji Mingyue, it would mean that he’d wasted a vast amount of money on Star and Moon for nothing.
…
Just as Feng Nanming was pacing back and forth, the door to the room creaked open.
Ji Mingyue’s personal servant slowly walked into the room with a worried expression.
“What did Miss Mingyue say?” Feng Nanming quickly asked.
“Sir, you’ll have to wait for a while as Miss Mingyue is attending to another important client at the moment…”
“She’s attending to another client?”
Feng Nanming froze completely, dumbfounded by the answer.
He’d thought that he might get rejected because of his impoliteness, or that she would accept his invitation because of his boldness. Never did he expect that the answer would be something so different.
“Miss Mingyue is attending to another important client? Am I not an important client then?” Since there were some of his juniors with him in the suite, he couldn’t bear the embarrassment.
His anger terrified the weak servant as she replied with her trembling voice, “S-sir, please calm down… Miss Mingyue has never attended to a client for the past three years. I have no idea why she broke her own rule…
“And the moment I invited her, she has another client?” Feng Nanming laughed furiously.
“Senior, is it possible that the client is Jiang Shengxie?” one of Feng Nanming’s juniors speculated.
Feng Nanming pondered and let out a grunt. “Let’s go and teach Jiang Shengxie a lesson!”
…
Those who were trained in the Fire Element tended to have a worse temper than the others.
This was especially true for Feng Nanming. His past few years hadn’t been going as well as he’d hoped. During his time at the Unyielding Sword Celestial Sect, the masters kept comparing him to Li Hanguang and Ye Chengying, saying that the two had already grown much stronger than him.
The thought of Jiang Shengxie being better than him as well angered Feng Nanming even more. He decided to teach his junior a lesson.
A group of people stormed towards the suite that Jiang Shengxie was in.
Feng Nanming raised his leg to kick the door down but stopped midway.
After a moment of hesitation, he slowly put his leg down. “I should at least act gentlemanly in front of Miss Mingyue…”
He quickly suppressed his anger and forced himself to smile.
Jiang Shengxie was instructing Chu Xiao in the room when he heard the knock on the door.
“Could it be that everyone has left after Miss Mingyue finished her play and the high-quality ladies are free now?” Jiang Shengxie raised a brow and smiled. “Come in.”
As the door opened, Jiang Shengxie looked at the person’s leg first out of habit. “Huh? Why is your dress not transparent? Are you trying to insult me?”
When he slowly moved his eyes up, he dropped his jaw. “Senior Feng? Why are you here?”
Feng Nanming walked into the room and scanned his surroundings. It didn’t take him long to realize that there was no one else other than the three men inside.
Feng Nianming’s face turned sour as he asked, “Junior Jiang, have you seen Miss Mingyue today?”
Jiang Shengxie was surprised by the question but immediately replied, “Nope.”
Jiang Shengxie’s calm demeanor only made Feng Nanming even angrier than before.
But, he still forced himself to keep the smile on his face.
The reason he did so was that he’d only given Ji Mingyue the Star and Moon zither. When he’d learned that Ji Mingyue was attending to another client, it had made him furious.
Feng Nanming was sure that Jiang Shengxie had given Ji Mingyue gifts that were worth more than the Star and Moon zither.
Feng Nanming was curious to see how Jiang Shengixe would react if the latter learned that Ji Mingyue had gone to tend to another client after receiving such an expensive gift from him.
Feng Nanming was already at the point where he would find solace if there were others who suffered more than him.
…
“So, you think you’ve won just because your gift is much more expensive? Do you know that Miss Mingyue is attending to a client now?” Feng Nanming smiled.
“Miss Mingyue has a client?” Jiang Shengxie frowned at the news.
“I tried to invite her for a drink, but her personal servant told me that she’s meeting with another client.” Feng Nanming nodded. “At first, I thought she was meeting with you. Looks like I was wrong.”
Miss Mingyue is entertaining a client? Was he joking?
“I don’t see a reason for you to laugh,” Jiang Shengxie sighed. “Isn’t it clear that she lied about meeting with another client because she doesn’t want to drink with you? Senior Feng, you’re still a virgin so you don’t know how women usually react. Let me teach you a lesson. When a woman is invited by a man she doesn’t like, she will usually lie and say that she’s occupied.”
Feng Nanming’s lips twitched when he heard that. He could not understand how Jiang Shengxie could remain this calm since the latter was trying to woo Ji Mingyue as well.
How could he not care even though he had given such an expensive gift to her! Did he not ask her out?
…
The calmer Jiang Shengxie was, the angrier Feng Nanming became.
Suddenly, music drifted from the highest floor of the Embracing Moon Brothel. Someone was playing the zither.
It was a familiar song, the Heart of the Moon. The only difference was that there were no accompanying lyrics, only the tune.
Ji Mingyue was the only one who could perform it so elegantly. This was proof that she was on the highest floor.
Everyone turned to see where the music was coming from, only to realize that it did not come from the Winter Plum Pavilion.
“That b*tch is actually entertaining another man?” A roar resounded in the room.
Everyone turned their heads back and saw that Jiang Shengxie’s face had completely turned red with anger.
He picked up his Devil-Subduing Sword and charged towards the room where the music was coming from.
…
The sight of angry Jiang Shengxie finally calmed Feng Nanming down a little.
That was the reaction you’re supposed to have.
