Xiao Yu, however, didn’t find any trace of adder’s tongue along the path, which meant that he had to pass through the narrow area densely occupied by the ghost monster to search somewhere else in order to find the grass.
He was wandering around the area and looking for a route he could use to pass this section of the path. However, he found passing through this area to be an impossible task after he calculated the perceptive distance of these ghost monsters. The only exception would be if he improved his stealth travel skill to a much higher level.
It was simply an impossible task for him before he reached level 10.
Xiao Yu felt a bit frustrated, but he had no intention of totally giving up.
There had to be a way to pass through this area.
“Otherwise, Thief Teach Ode wouldn’t have asked me to carry out this task,” he thought to himself.
“But how can I pass through this area?” Xiao Yu thought while looking ahead of him, but he failed to figure out a way to achieve the feat.
As Xiao Yu was pondering the issue, a patch of white clouds drifted over from the deep part of the valley, encasing the whole area in a thick fog. As such, Xiao Yu’s vision and perception were significantly reduced.
Looking at the white haze in front of him, a ray of light beamed in Xiao Yu’s eyes. Since the white haze had reduced his vision and perception, it could also do the same to the ghost monsters.
In other words, the white haze was the key for him to pass through this area!
Yet, Xiao Yu was still unsure if he could pass through the narrow area densely occupied by the monsters amid the haze. It still seemed to be too difficult a task to him.
Xiao Yu was hesitant for about 15 seconds, and the white haze drifted away.
He stayed in the same spot for about 20 minutes and learned how the white haze behaved. He found that a patch of white clouds would drift over at the interval of five minutes. The haze would drift away after lingering in the area for about 15 seconds, which meant that Xiao Yu would have a window of opportunity of 15 seconds to pass through the narrow area. This was undoubtedly a challenge for him.
“The designer for this task is truly a bizarre person; it’s inhuman,” Xiao Yu thought to himself.
After some further observation, he learned how the ghost monsters moved, and he remembered the paths taken by the ghost monsters. Then, he figured out a secure route for him to get out of the area.
A patch of white haze was drifting over.
“It’s time.” Xiao Yu threw the dagger up into the air and then caught it squarely in his right hand before he moved forward using stealth travel.
The white haze swathed the whole area, and the visibility had suddenly reduced. He could only see the ground two meters away from him.
His heart skipped a beat when he realized that he was already in the site occupied by the ghost monster.
“Be cool!” he reminded himself inwardly. After taking a deep breath, he resumed moving forward slowly and carefully.
It seemed that he had been moving too slowly, so he could in no way pass through the area in fifteen seconds. Xiao Yu sped up, but he didn’t travel too fast because he would die for sure if he was discovered.
Xiao Yu passed three ghost monsters and safely traveled some distance. Three dark figures in the white haze up ahead were heading toward him.
Xiao Yu stood in the spot that he had predicted he would reach by now.
The three ghost monsters were coming to the spot where he stood.
Freezing on the spot, Xiao Yu quietly looked at the three ghost monsters approaching him. He was ridiculously nervous.
He felt a bit relieved when he found that the three ghost monsters hadn’t changed their patrol routes.
The ghost monsters looked like the villagers, and Xiao Yu couldn’t help but feel a chill go down his back when he saw the hideous appearances of the three monsters. This was the first time he found these monsters to be so dreadful.
The three ghost monsters passed Xiao Yu one after the other and gradually disappeared into the distance. A sweat bead as big as a bean trickled down from his temple, then down his cheek and all the way to the ground.
It was then that Xiao Yu felt his heart almost jump out of his chest.
Sensing that the three ghost monsters had left, Xiao Yu sped up and continued to move forward in an attempt to pass through this narrow section as soon as possible. He brushed by a few more ghost monsters, but he didn’t feel as afraid as he had felt earlier. He calmed down a great deal and could move more smoothly now.
“I will get used to the situation after being scared more often,” he told himself.
“I must keep a calm mind,” he reminded himself again. He brushed by a ghost monster again. This was the closest he’d ever been to a ghost monster, and he could even see the reflections in the ghost monster’s eyes.
The monster’s eyes were hazy, reflecting the white haze currently permeating the area. It seemed that their vision was worse than Xiao Yu had expected.
There were only three seconds left, but he still had a short distance to cover. Xiao Yu had no choice but to speed up.
He saw five ghost monsters stand shoulder to shoulder up ahead and found there was only a half-a-meter wide gap between them.
As the pupils in his eyes shrank, Xiao Yu speed up even more. He turned his body sideways slightly when he arrived before these ghost monsters. It turned out that the gap was just wide enough for him to pass through.
After passing by those monsters, Xiao Yu quickly moved forward and covered some more distance. Blown away by the wind, the fog around him had gradually dissipated, and visibility had gradually improved.
That was such a close call!
Xiao Yu turned his head and looked at the ghost monsters wandering around. He felt like he had just walked past the sickle of the grim reaper.
He didn’t even have the chance to wipe the cold sweat off his face until now. He cursed the person who designed this task. He thought it was truly bizarre.
Xiao Yu looked straight ahead after calming down. He was a little bit mesmerized by the scene looming before him. It was a beautiful spring valley with picturesque sceneries. Everything, including the forest, the grass, and the river, looked so gorgeous. The only eyesore was a ruined house in the midst of the grassland. The ruins in the thicket of the grass gave off a hint of desolation.
After enjoying the scenery for a little while, Xiao Yu started searching the area. He didn’t forget that he came here to look for the adder’s tongue and not to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
