A Legendary Thief - Chapter 45
Chapter 45: The Rules of Battlefield
Thieves were considered the archenemy of mages, and this was not without good reason. Because of thieves’ agility and fast attacks, it was hard for mages to get out of the fight once they were being pursued by one. When thieves developed their controlling skills more, they could even control a mage to death.
As such, players with the mage profession didn’t often win when they fought against thieves, especially fire mages that had a poor controlling ability.
After being hit by the mountain cat, the druid didn’t strike back at the cat but instead charged toward Xiao Yu at high speed.
The fire mage retreated to where the druid was in an attempt to get himself out of Xiao Yu’s clutches with the aid of the druid.
Seeing the claw of the druid nearing his chest, Xiao Yu had no choice but to give up pursuing the fire mage. He dodged the attack of the druid and launched a backstabbing attack, the dagger piercing into the back of the druid with a puff sound.
The fire mage, protected by the druid, distanced himself from Xiao Yu. A ball of fire formed on the magic staff in his right hand.
The fire mage intended to throw the fireball. Xiao Yu had experienced the terrible effect of this magic attack. He used a reversed backstabbing skill to jump behind the druid, then immediately charged toward the fire mage.
The fire mage didn’t expect Xiao Yu to get away from the druid so soon. However, the magic had already initiated, and he had no way to stop the process.
Kick!
Xiao Yu forcefully kicked the fire mage in his stomach, interrupting the completion of the magic fireball. His dagger pierced through the cotton robe of the fire mage with ease.
After being hit by Xiao Yu’s reversed backstab, the druid only had 35% of his health remaining, and he didn’t have any instant health potions left in this bag.
“I’ll die along with you.” The druid charged at Xiao Yu without considering the dangers he would face.
The mountain cat was pursuing the druid, who was pursuing Xiao Yu, who was pursuing the fire mage. It was absolutely chaotic.
The cool-down of Xiao Yu’s evisceration skill was done!
As soon as the cool-down of the evisceration skill was over, Xiao Yu’s right hand pierced his dagger into the heart of the fire mage, then slashed downwards along his ribs.
System: the success rate of evisceration is 100%, causing 100% skill damage and 3.5 seconds of paralysis.
A damage value of 110 points popped up over the head of the fire mage; he was paralyzed, but his eyes were wide open. He was incredulous after witnessing this scene. It had never occurred to him that the evisceration skill of the thieves could also have a paralyzing effect.
Xiao Yu took the opportunity to go around behind the fire mage. “Goodbye, man,” said Xiao Yu icily. With a sideways rotation, he used the backstabbing skill, and the dagger jabbed into the fire mage’s cotton armor with tremendous force.
The remaining health of the fire mage was reduced to nothing. He dropped to the ground, dead.
Honored killing!
Seeing the dead fire mage, the druid threw himself at Xiao Yu with an angry roar.
“You should have fled rather than charge at me.” It was obviously an insensible act on the part of the druid, who didn’t choose to flee. The expression in Xiao Yu’s eyes was as cold as ice from the north pole, and he met the druid head-on.
Xiao Yu might have felt a little nervous whenever he encountered danger, but in battle, he always stayed calm because he had no time to think of anything else.
The dagger in his right hand emitted many cold flashes of light. Xiao Yu continuously delivered counterattacks as he kept dodging the attacks of the druid.
Xiao Yu still had 78% of health left. On the other hand, the druid only had less than 30% health remaining. Xiao Yu also had the advantage of being a higher level, so he could suppress the druid easily.
During this long-lasting battle, the druid’s health had been reduced to 7%. Xiao Yu thrust the snake-tooth dagger at the druid.
The druid dodged his attack and then leaped backward to charge at the mountain cat. The expression in his eyes seemed to show that he had made some kind of decision. The large mountain cat caught up to the druid and knocked him away after striking him with its paw.
“This guy would rather be killed by the mountain cat than give me honor points.” Xiao Yu sighed. He felt rather unhappy. This was a battlefield, where one would die if their enemies didn’t first. As such, Xiao Yu did not in any way sympathize with his foe.
“I have no other choice but to care about my own survival,” he convinced himself. He didn’t have time to get sentimental, and he hadn’t forgotten his true goal in this game. He had to work hard to become a professional player and allow his sister to live a better life.
The large mountain cat found that the druid was already dead and so turned its attention to Xiao Yu. He was the only one left now.
The mountain cat only had 27% health left after the creature fought fiercely with the druid and the fire mage, so it didn’t pose any threat to Xiao Yu.
He still had 56% health left, which was enough to deal with the mountain cat. Xiao Yu used the street-run tactic to finish the large mountain cat off.
The battle was over!
It was time to collect his loot. Xiao Yu picked up all the items dropped by the mountain cat, the druid, and the fire mage. The druid and the fire mage together dropped one white-level item and one green-level magic robe that could cause 10 points of fire damage. In addition, the mountain cat dropped one silver coin.
“Meow, meow.” The mountain kitten looked at Xiao Yu in terror.
He picked up the mountain kitten and stored it in a sub-pocket in his bag. He planned to sell it at an auction. He couldn’t train the mountain kitten himself, as that could only be done by an animal trainer.
He counted the winnings he gained from the battle, and the total was worth more than 60 gold coins in total. He got items worth more than 30 gold coins due to the three players from the Angelic Federation. This had proven the claim that said that it was faster to earn money from battles, even though the risk was super high.
“Battles are something I will make sure to do from now on.” Xiao Yu took a look into the distance. The state of Over in the Angelic Federation was beyond this endless mountain range, and he told himself that he might go there someday.
After checking his experience bar, he found it stood at 96%, meaning he would level up soon. He also remembered that because he killed players from the Angelic Federation, he could get some rewards in terms of experience and gold coins in the main city of the spirits, the Underworld Night City.
“I’ll keep score first and get the rewards when I go to the main city,” thought Xiao Yu. Besides obtaining the rewards, Xiao Yu also needed to go to Underworld Night City to sell the mountain kitten and two green-level items. As such, he would have a fair amount of gold coins, which would be enough for his initial expenses.
