A Legendary Thief - Chapter 49
Chapter 49: Opening for Business
He should have enough money to upgrade his skills after he sold the items he had.
By the time he came back to the small town of Tabarka, it was already dark.
“It’s time to eat dinner now.” Xiao Yu stretched his limbs and then put down his helmet. He was offline.
“Brother, look at what I brought you,” Little Rain said happily while waving her hand.
Xiao Yu forgot the tiredness he felt when he saw the bright smile on Little Rain’s face. Seeing the item in Little Rain’s hand, Xiao Yu couldn’t help but laugh. “Chocolate? I’m not a child.”
Little Rain pouted and showed a pair of shallow dimples. She said, “Who said one can’t eat chocolate after growing up? I remember you liked eating chocolate a lot when you were young, but you always only ate a little piece and left the rest for me.”
“You eat some too,” said Xiao Yu after picking up a piece.
“I ate one already,” said Little Rain with a sweet smile as she looked at Xiao Yu with those sparkling eyes of hers.
Xiao Yu glanced at her and felt suspicious. He snapped off a piece of chocolate and put it into his mouth. The sweet and bitter flavor tasted just like life itself.
“It’s so bitter,” exclaimed Xiao Yu while frowning.
“How come?” Little Rain picked up a piece in bewilderment and put it in her mouth. “It’s not bitter at all.”
“It’s not bitter,” said Xiao Yu with a smile.
“Brother, you tricked me.” By now, Little Rain had realized what Xiao Yu intended to achieve. He wanted to get her to eat some more chocolate. Little Rain was chewing the chocolate while pouting in discontent, but in reality, she had a warm feeling deep inside her.
“Where did you get this thing?” asked Xiao Yu after some hesitation as he pointed at the chocolates on the table. He knew that Little Rain would never spend money on something as expensive as chocolate.
“Miss Lanxin gave them to me. Madam Wu and I helped her move today. This is the gift she gave me,” said Little Rain while licking her lips.
“Dr. Zhao?” Xiao Yu was taken aback, the image of her beautiful face and body coming into his mind.
“Yes, Miss Lanxin is really pretty,” replied Little Rain, nodding her head. She seemed to remember something as she turned to Xiao Yu and asked playfully, “When you got injured the other day, it was she who treated your wounds, right?”
Xiao Yu let out an awkward smile.
“Brother, what do you think about Lanxin?” Little Rain looked at Xiao Yu with a smile in her eyes.
Xiao Yu rubbed her head and said, “You wicked girl, what are you thinking? Don’t try to match us. Nobody would like someone like your brother.” It was true that Xiao Yu had low self-esteem.
“Brother, I think you’re quite handsome. If you went to our school, you would be able to attract a bunch of girls for sure,” said Little Rain while checking out Xiao Yu from head to toe, then laughing out loud.
Hearing what Little Rain said, Xiao Yu couldn’t help but shake his head with a wry smile. This smart and wicked girl had many unrealistic ideas in her mind. Dr. Zhao had so many desired features and should be able to find someone with a house, a car, and a successful career, so he would be at the back of the line to get her attention. Xiao Yu didn’t dare think of such matters right now. All he wanted was for Little Rain to live a happy life and grow up. He didn’t have any lavish desires for his own life.
“Oh, dinner is ready. Let me go get it.” A smile still lingered on Little Rain’s face. A long ponytail was tied up behind her back. She was always displaying bright and positive energy, just like a cheerful butterfly.
Looking at the small and adorable back of Little Rain, Xiao Yu let out a small happy smile.
“Brother, I heard Miss Lanxin is also playing the game Legend of Enzes. I told her your name in the game. Hehe.”
“Her playing the game has nothing to do with me.”
“You can help her level up.”
“No way,” Xiao Yu rebutted without a second thought. He was not a casual player, so why would he want to bring a burden with him? She would definitely become trouble for him if he did what Little Rain suggested. In his eyes, casual players like Zhao Lanxin tended to be lower in level.
“She is a beauty though. Others would wish to have such an opportunity,” said Little Rain while looking at Xiao Yu with her hands holding up her chin. She was perplexed.
“To say nothing of a normal, beautiful woman, I wouldn’t even do it for a fairy lady.” Xiao Yu kept on eating his dinner, unmoved.
Little Rain slapped her forehead and commented with a sigh, “Oh, this is bad. My brother will become someone that no woman wants.”
Seeing the mischievous expression on her face, Xiao Yu couldn’t help but laugh. “Alright, you wicked little girl. Hurry up and finish your dinner. You can wash the dishes after you’re done.”
“Why am I washing the dishes again?”
“Don’t you see that your brother has to go back to work?” asked Xiao Yu smugly as he picked up the helmet on the bed.
“Humph, humph. That’s just an excuse.” Little Rain waved her fist at Xiao Yu’s back before she started to clean the bowls and chopsticks on the table.
Xiao Yu entered the game.
The lights in the small town of Tabarka had just been lit. The magic lamps looked like the stars in the sky, scattered in this patch of quiet desert.
Xiao Yu went to Thief Teacher Ode and asked about the cost of upgrading his skills. He was flabbergasted after finding out that upgrading the backstabbing, reversed backstabbing, and evisceration skills would cost him 30 gold coins, and upgrading the stealth travel skill to level 3 would cost one gold coin.
“I have to sell these two green-level items.” Xiao Yu went to the night market. He would have enough gold coins to upgrade his skills after he sold his items.
A sound in Xiao Yu’s helmet rang out; it was An Yu’s voice.
“I messaged you a few times earlier, but you weren’t on. I guessed you were offline for dinner and that you would be back by now,” said An Yu.
“What’s the matter?” asked Xiao Yu. He knew that An Yu wouldn’t seek him out to chat for no reason.
“I’d like to ask for your help with something, even though it’s not that important. I’d like to ask you to complete a small task for me. I’m not sure if you’re interested in it. As for the price, we can discuss that later,” said An Yu.
“Complete a task?” It seemed that this was a task that An Yu and his team couldn’t handle. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have asked for his help.
“Yes. It won’t take long to complete, 20 or 30 minutes at most. Gold coins are really tight at the moment. We can pay you with Chinese yuan for your service,” said An Yu. The allure of Chinese yuan could never be diminished for professional players.
“Chinese yuan?” Xiao Yu’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing this. If the trade was completed, it would be the first-ever business transaction he had done in his entire life.
He was open for business. Xiao Yu unconsciously rotated the dagger around in his hand.
“And I hope the price is not too high because it’s a primary task,” said An Yu.
“What about the content and difficulty of the task?” inquired Xiao Yu. If it were a task that he had no way of completing, then it would all be meaningless no matter what.
“The task is opening a box. The thief in our team can’t do it, so I thought of you.”
“Is the box locked?”
“No.”
“Any monsters near the box?”
“Level-10 monsters, more than 20 of them.”
“The payment?” asked Xiao Yu. He should be able to complete the task if he were helped by somebody. And if the price was reasonable, he would consider taking the job since it would only take him 20 or 30 minutes.
