A Legendary Thief - Chapter 54
Chapter 54: The Luck
The hyena leader had 1200 health. But after being engaged in a long battle with Xiao Yu, the evisceration attack had knocked out 160 health points. As such, the hyena leader had a little more than 1000 health at the moment.
An opportunity came!
Finding that he had a chance to kill the hyena leader, all the strength in Xiao Yu’s body seemed to burst out. All the strength was concentrated onto the dagger in his right hand, and the snake-tooth dagger let out a cheerful buzzing sound.
“I have to finish the beast off within 3.5 seconds,” he told himself.
His nerves were on edge, but this agitated state didn’t make his movements stiff. Instead, all the potential energy in his body seemed to have burst out at once, just like a bomb being set off.
Xiao Yu went behind the hyena leader as the muscles all over his body contracted quickly with a slight tremor. He pushed his left foot against the ground, turned his body sideways, and all his strength poured into the dagger in his right hand like a torrent.
Puff!!! The dagger in his right hand pierced into the back of the hyena leader.
The success rate was 100%, which was anticipated by Xiao Yu, and it caused 210 points of skill damage, 20 points of bleeding effect, and added two combo points.
What Xiao Yu didn’t expect was the two combo points, but that was what he needed. These combo points could double the attack damage of his level-3 reversed backstabbing skill.
Three and a half seconds later, the hyena leader recovered from the paralysis. The excruciating pain coursing throughout its body caused the beast to let out a horrific cry. The hyena leader turned around and leaped at Xiao Yu, exposing its sharp claws.
Its sharp claws glistened as sunlight streamed down onto them from between the leaves, blinding Xiao Yu’s eyes for a second.
As he squinted, the claws of the hyena leader had already reached his chest.
Bang!!! Xiao Yu was stuck once. He quickly retreated as fast as he could.
The hyena leader jumped up into the air again after hitting Xiao Yu before flinging itself at him.
The pupils in Xiao Yu’s eyes abruptly shrank when he saw the attacking hyena leader.
“You die now!” Xiao Yu shouted as he leaped up into the air while rotating the dagger in his right hand by 360 degrees. He forcefully jabbed it into the back of the hyena leader, all the way to its heart.
Xiao Yu’s strength was totally exhausted after this attack because he had concentrated all of his might into this blow.
The hyena leader was knocked about six meters away and landed heavily on the ground.
System: You have killed the hyena leader.
The system notification showed that his experience value had increased by 3%.
“Ahh.” Xiao Yu let out a long exhale. He felt weak from head to toe after he had killed the hyena leader, and he had no strength left in his body. He was struck again by the freaking “tiredness” programmed in the game.
Brutal strike!
Fan Ye, the death knight, mounted a sudden strike, and the sword in his hand started to emit dark flames. He swung his sword at the last remaining hyena with all his might. The hyena was knocked away with a loud bang and landed heavily on the ground, dead.
“We’ve finally finished them all off.” Fan Ye let out a rare smile.
“Where is Xiao Yu?” asked An Yu worriedly because he was nowhere to be found.
“He was chased into the woods up ahead by the hyena leader,” replied Feng Ge. Without timely treatment, Xiao Yu was probably dead by now.
“Don’t pick up any loot yet. Let’s go to him quickly,” said An Yu anxiously before dashing into the forest. He used his broadsword to cut down some trees before he ran into them.
“Be careful, everybody. Fan Ye, pay attention to the hyena leader. Xiao Yu might be dead already.” As soon as An Yu said that, they heard a horrific cry in the woodland.
“Sounds like the hyena leader,” said Feng Ge. He was taken aback for a moment. Was the hyena leader being attacked? He failed to understand what was happening.
An Yu was dumbfounded after he pulled the tree branches aside and saw the scene.
“What’s the matter?” Fan Ye, the death knight, lifted up his head and asked when he saw An Yu halt his steps. But he was also shocked when he looked ahead.
The five players stood dazed and couldn’t wrap their heads around the situation for a while.
As he stood by the hyena leader, Xiao Yu sensed some commotion in the forest and looked in that direction only to find An Yu and his teammates.
“Have you finished them off? Xiao Yu asked An Yu.
“Y… yes.” An Yu swallow his spit with some effort. Xiao Yu had no idea how much he had shocked An Yu and the others by standing next to the dead hyena leader.
“Did… did you kill it?” asked Fan Ye the death knight, his expression showing shock. He wondered how Xiao Yu could manage to kill a level-7 monster leader all by himself.
Xiao Yu took a look at the corpse of the hyena leader in front of him and picked up the dropped items, saying, “Just good luck. That’s all.”
“Good luck?” An Yu couldn’t believe it. How could someone rely on their luck to kill a monster leader of the same level? Even if luck was a part of it, strength definitely had to contribute to it the most.
“A wrist guard for thieves and a mage necklace with pretty good features,” said Xiao Yu while waving the items in his hands. He then shared the features with An Yu and the others.
“You are the one who got these items. We don’t feel like we deserve them. Let’s do it this way. You keep the green-level wrist guard, and as for the mage necklace, we’ll buy it from you according to the market price,” said An Yu. He was currently more interested in finding out how Xiao Yu had killed the hyena leader, but he found it hard to ask him when he saw how Xiao Yu behaved as if it was not a big deal.
“Okay.” Xiao Yu didn’t turn down An Yu’s offer. He took a look at the wrist guard for thieves.
Windy wrist guard: green-level equipment; defense 3-6; strength +5; agility +7; prerequisite is level 7.
The wrist guard Xiao Yu was wearing was only a piece of white-level equipment, with +2 defense. He took off the white-level wrist guard and replaced it with the windy wrist guard.
“I almost have a whole set of green-level equipment.” Xiao Yu checked the items on him and felt content with the winnings he had earned over the last few days.
The mage necklace was a +10 magic item. An Yu’s team spent 18 gold coins to buy it from Xiao Yu.
“Let’s go,” said Xiao Yu.
“Okay.” The group picked up the loot dropped by the other four hyenas and set out.
Xiao Yu and Xin Huo walked in front. They watched for monsters in their path and immediately killed any that were alone.
Feng Ge, the dark wizard, glanced at Xiao Yu’s back and then asked An Yu, “How do you think he managed to kill that hyena leader?” Feng Ge was obviously curious of this person named Xiao Yu.
“Why? I don’t believe you have also become interested in him, have you?” returned An Yu with a smile. Feng Ge was usually a person of few words. He rarely spoke and had a typical introverted personality. Still, he held the second-highest position in the team after An Yu.
