Chapter 46 Something Happened in the Netherworld
Someone was knocking the door, “Miss, have you rested?”
It was a woman who said carefully and was afraid of disturbing Ronghua.
Ronghua opened her eyes and stopped cultivating. She walked to the door with the candle lamp and watched outside, “Xueniang, what’s the matter?”
The woman outside was named Xueniang. Ronghua didn’t want to walk at night due to her physical condition, so she went to a farmyard for rest. Although there were only small rooms here, Ronghua didn’t nitpick, and the family was unadorned and kind.
Perhaps they had a problem that they couldn’t solve, so they came to Ronghua at dead of night.
They had known Ronghua’s identity, for she rescued their old mother in the daytime. Ronghua thought they must have no choice, so they mustered up their courage to knock the door of her room.
Xueniang said anxiously, “There is a Taoist outside, who is dying. We can’t rescue him. Could you please help him?”
A Taoist? It was too late. Why did he come here?
Ronghua opened the door. It was dark outside, and some evils might come out. Only people like Xueniang dared knock the door for help at this time.
Ronghua put down the candle lamp and walked outside, “All right. I’ll go and see it!”
Xueniang breathed a sigh of relief. She had thought that Ronghua wouldn’t promise her, for it was too late. She disturbed Ronghua, who was asleep, so she felt sorry. Then Xueniang smiled, “Okay! Let’s go!”
Without a lantern at night, the farmyard was less luxurious than a wealthy and influential family or an inn. Therefore, there was no light except for the lamp of Xueniang. But Ronghua could see clearly in darkness. She saw something unclean at the gate of the farmyard. What kind of person did they save?
The farmyard was small, so they walked to the main house after a while. Ronghua had smelled the blood before entering it. It seemed that the person was severely injured.
Xueniang’s husband shouted, “Oh! How could you wake her up?” Then he stopped Xueniang at the door.
Xueniang wanted to check the condition of that person, but her husband stopped her. “She has medical skills and knows more than us. She can save the person.”
But Xueniang’s husband didn’t think so. He turned around and felt embarrassed, “Miss, I’m so sorry, I just don’t want to disturb you.”
Ronghua knew what he was thinking. She passed over him and walked into the main house.
They were eager to help people, but they didn’t distinguish what kind of the person they saved was. Fortunately, they didn’t meet someone that would kill them.
They had saved so many people, but this time they kept a person that they couldn’t help. How could they save a Taoist? They couldn’t afford the medicine for treating his wound, so they were a little embarrassed.
Ronghua said calmly, “It doesn’t matter. Just lift a finger!”
Xueniang’s husband breathed a sigh of relief. He made way for Ronghua.
Ronghua looked at that person and found that the monster had scratched him. She thought the person must have some abilities, for he could escape from the monster after being severely injured.
Ronghua touched his forehead.
Xueniang asked carefully, “Miss, could he be saved?”
Ronghua didn’t reply and continued checking his wound.
Xueniang kept silent, but Ronghua knew what she was thinking. They had good intentions. If they could save that person, everybody would be happy. Otherwise, they would commit a crime of murdering a Taoist, and it was a serious crime, which they couldn’t bear.
Ronghua took out an elixir and let him take it. She pressed his chest to examine him. Then the man spat a mouthful of blood as soon as her hand increased the force. But the blood wasn’t out, for Ronghua had predicted that he would spit blood, so she covered his mouth with a towel.
Xueniang dared not say anything and thought, “Miss, is this all right?”
Ronghua didn’t care at all and was expressionless all along.
Ronghua stood up, “Prepare hot water and rope!”
Xueniang replied, “I’m going to boil water right now!”
Xueniang’s husband asked, “What kind of rope do you want?”
He was startled by Ronghua’s cold expression while he asked.
Ronghua walked to the table and drew it with a writing brush.
Xueniang’s husband was a little scared when seeing her drawing. Wasn’t this kind of rope used for binding large-sized monsters? Was it right to bind this man with the rope?
“Miss, it…”
Ronghua was impatient, “Do you have it?”
He could feel the coldness of her words, shivering, “Yes, I have. I’m going to take it.”
Then he left here, with his legs shivering.
Ronghua sat down and looked at the man, with her hand moving continuously.
That man with disheveled hair and a dirty face wore black clothes, for no one could recognize what the color of his clothes was. Maybe he was in earthy yellow. His clothes were too shabby to cover his body. No wonder Xueniang’s husband didn’t let Xueniang approach him. His shoe soles had several holes, so he must have walked a lot!
People could seldom see someone fall into a coma here. Fortunately, the family was so kind that they saved him. Ronghua raised her hand and gave the Taoist some starlight.
She found that man had some objects, which accorded with his identity as a Taoist. It was so rare!
He brought spiritual weapons essential for the Taoists and valid and spells. He mustn’t be ordinary and had a specific identity.
“Why did the Taoist provoke the monster? Because of that?” Ronghua thought to herself.
“Here is the rope.” Fortunately, people here had the habit of catching the monster. Otherwise, he couldn’t find it!
Xueniang’s husband came in with the rope, for it was too heavy. It was not so much a rope but an iron chain composed of a string and iron.
Ronghua snapped her fingers. Then Xueniang’s husband saw the rope lift by itself and cover the man while he gasped in surprise. The rope firmly bound him as soon as Ronghua snapped her fingers again.
Xueniang’s husband was a little stunned, “Miss, what are you doing?”
Ronghua looked at his surprised expression and said calmly, “Don’t save people you couldn’t recognize from now on.”
“Ah?!”
Ronghua looked sideways at him, “Because not everyone asking for help is a human.”
Her words led up to meaningful afterthoughts. Did she mean that this man wasn’t a human?
After a little while, the Taoist woke up and asked in a harsh voice, “Where am I?” Then he felt uncomfortable and opened his eyes, “Who are you? How dare you bind me?”
He struggled with all his might. An ordinary human shouldn’t have the strength like him; even a Taoist wouldn’t have the power like him.
It appeared that the man wasn’t ordinary. It was lucky that she was here; otherwise, the consequence was unthinkable.
Ronghua stood next to the man and looked down at him, “Who are you?”
He struggled for a while and saw Ronghua, whose spiritual power he couldn’t feel. She must be an ordinary human, or she could hide her cultivation.
Ronghua didn’t look scared and calmly interrogated him. He guessed that it must be tough to deal with her.
“Me? I am just a Taoist traveling around!”
He stopped struggling.
A rare smile appeared on Ronghua’s face, “Taoist? Is there a Taoist who doesn’t die after the monster pierces his heart?”
The man became sullen immediately after Ronghua finished talking.
Xueniang’s husband stepped back and wondered, “Isn’t he a human?”
Ronghua turned around, “Don’t want to tell the truth? Okay, I have many ways to let you open your mouth!”
That man shivered and had a sinking feeling.
At this time, Xueniang walked in with a pot of hot water, “Here comes hot water!”
His face immediately became pale when he heard the words ‘hot water’. He realized what Ronghua would do.
Xueniang put the pot of hot water on the table and turned around, “Oh! He is awake. How could you bind him?”
Xueniang’s husband pulled Xueniang away at once. Xueniang said in surprise, “I… what’s wrong?”
Xueniang’s husband put his index finger on his mouth and hinted her not to talk. “He is not an ordinary Taoist and has admitted it just now.”
Xueniang was surprised, “Not a human?”
Then she turned back and looked at his face, which is just like humans’, so she doubted it, “You’re kidding me?”
Ronghua added something to the hot water, scooped up a ladle of hot water, and walked towards the man slowly.
He felt that there would be something horrible.
Sure enough, Ronghua poured him with hot water. His skin seemed to be eroded, making a fizzy sound. All he could do was to choke back his tears and prevent himself from crying.
After finishing pouring, Ronghua continued, “Who are you? Where do you come? What’s your purpose?”
“I have no purpose!” He finally said with difficulty.
Ronghua poured him again.
But he couldn’t bear it this time and shouted, making an ear-piercing sound. Xueniang and her husband heard his voice even though they had covered their ears.
Humans mustn’t make this sound.
After he shouted, Ronghua continued calmly. She paused when scooping up water, “Xueniang, the water has been cold. Prepare more hot water!” This made him break down.
Nothing could stop her. Familiar people must know that Ronghua did as well as professionals in interrogating criminals.
After preparing the hot water, Ronghua continued, and the water was about to fall on his body.
He shouted as if he was afraid that Ronghua couldn’t hear him, “I say. You stop first! I will say.”
Ronghua smiled and stopped.
She threw the ladle into the pot.
She dusted herself off and sat down, “Say it!”
He gasped and tried to calm down, “I am Yun…”
Then he couldn’t say anything as if someone squeezed his throat, so Ronghua cut off his throat, killing him.
Xueniang fell in a faint. Her husband immediately picked her wife up to run away. It estimated that they wouldn’t save people easily later. Because what happened today had impressed them a lot!
The man died and immediately became a dried corpse. Ronghua wasn’t surprised, and she thought, “It is indeed the case!”
Ronghua turned around and made a flame, burning the dried corpse out.
Ronghua walked out, “Xueniang, don’t tell others about what has happened today. Otherwise, you both will be in danger.”
Regardless of whether they had heard it or not, Ronghua pushed the door and left.
Something in the netherworld could come out. What was happening in the Realm of Ghosts?
Ronghua wondered who his master was. There were just a few people who could let him come out of the netherworld. All of them were suspected. It appeared that the netherworld wasn’t peaceful.
She wished that Mo were okay.
Before they separated, Murong Zhe had said, “When are we going to find Lingxi? Why not separate? There would be a better chance to find her.”
His real thought was that Ronghua disturbed their private space, so he didn’t want her to stay with them. He could just say it. Why did he find so many reasons?
Ronghua took out the compass, which was the best spiritual weapon to find people. She rotated it slowly, and the person whom she looked for would be in the direction where the stone on the compass was.
It wasn’t peaceful recently, so many monsters came out. No wonder Lingran asked her to find Lingxi. But how could Lingran know this?
Was there telepathy between mother and daughter?
Ronghua didn’t understand it, and thus she’d better find her step by step. The sky was starry tonight. Where was her star?
