Chapter 34: The Inn With A New Look
Carle’s expression changed immediately. He slowly turned his head to look at the classroom door.
Serpentine leaned against the door, her face as cold as ice, a half-smile on her lips. “Se-Sephone, why… why have you come to our class?”
“Why? Do I have to report to you which class I’m going to? Repeat what you just said
again.”
“W-what did I say?”
“Shall I repeat it for you?”
“…I better don’t. I was wrong. Please spare
my life!”
Carle begged for mercy loudly and fled out the back door in a dash.
All the students in the class were stunned. Why is Young Master Carle, who tyrannizes the class, now like a mouse seeing a cat when he sees this beautiful girl?
“Student, can you let me take your seat for a while?”
“Uh, okay, okay. Please sit down.”
“Thank you.”
Sephone smiled. My classmate at the next table hurriedly stood up and gave up the seat. Sephone simply sat down beside me.
“Will.”
“Mm.”
“I just heard that you showed off your talent in casting magic without chanting. Now, word of it has spread outside. Although many girls will confess to you after this, countless troubles will follow. There’s an old saying, It’s the tallest trees in the forest will be destroyed by the wind. Have you thought about the consequences of doing this?”
“I was careless. I was distracted in class just now. The teacher called me three times before I heard him. Without much thought, I activated the magic that the teacher asked for.”
“Distracted?! What were you thinking about?”
“You.”
I turned to Sephone and answered seriously.
“Me?!”
Sephone froze, her mouth slightly agape. Her two fingers drawing circles on the table stopped and she slowly turned around. When she saw my gaze, she dropped her head slightly. Her fair face gradually turned into a ripe apple.
“That day, you left so suddenly, and you didn’t look for me for so many days. I’m wondering if you hate me.”
“No! That day… ah, in short, I don’t hate
you.”
Sephone quickly raised her head and argued, then whispered, “If I didn’t come to you, don’t you know to come to me…”
“Okay, I’ll remember that. I’ll look for you when I miss you in the future.”
I nodded and agreed.
“Don’t make it sound so formal, id*ot! Although there’s nothing wrong with saying that…”
Sephone’s pretty face turned red. She hurriedly raised her head and looked around. When she saw the curious gazes around her, her face was so red that it was about to bleed. She stood up and left in a hurry.
As I watched Sephone leave, I seemed to understand a little of what it was like to be in love. It turned out that girls didn’t necessarily mean resentment when calling another an id*ot. It could also be them feeling shy.
After thinking this through, I couldn’t help but look out the window again. The corners of my mouth couldn’t help but curl up.
“D*mn! If you didn’t break up, you should have said so earlier. You made me happy for so long in vain. In the end, it was all for nothing.”
Carle’s voice came again from the side. I could hear the bitterness in his voice from several rows away.
My smile became even wider.
Now that my relationship with Sephone has returned to normal, I was ready to start making a rifle for the President.
As a toy for the Student Council, I had no intention of making a pistol. If the rifle was spread as a last resort it is so big that it would be easy to notice even if wrapped up.
However, if the pistol was leaked, everyone would have to be careful in the future. A bullet could come out of nowhere and take their lives.
An old-fashioned pull-bolt rifle does not have many parts. As long as I draw the blueprints and go to a few weapon shops in the city to get the parts and assemble them separately, I could avoid the possibility of it being leaked.
Only the bullets would require me to personally find the materials to synthesize gunpowder. It would take some effort, but fortunately, I only needed five bullets. It wouldn’t take long.
After drawing the blueprints in two days, all I needed was a break to leave the academy.
Speaking of which, I had been at the academy for more than a month. I wondered how Uncle Herbert’s Riston Inn was doing. Had Elena managed to get the inn running again?
I was in the academy, but my heart had already flown outside.
Finally.
After a full month of classes, we welcomed a long-awaited two-day break. After telling Sephone the purpose of my trip, I returned to Browning Street alone. When I arrived at the familiar inn, Riston Inn had changed drastically. Even the exterior had been repainted with a new color, and the door had been replaced with a transparent sliding glass door.
Not only were there waiters in tuxedos at the door, but there was also a new signboard with the dishes of the day written on it.
There was an endless stream of customers coming and going. Through the glass door, I even saw customers waiting inside.
With some relief, I walked to the entrance of the inn and looked around.
“Young Master, do you have an appointment?”
The waiter at the door walked over and asked politely.
“An appointment?”
“It works like this. You have to reserve a seat in advance to enter the inn. If you’re a guest without an appointment, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait a long time after entering.”
“Please go in and tell Mr. Herbert that Will is back.”
I said.
I was quite satisfied with the attitude of the waiter at the front door. It seemed that Uncle Herbert had taught him well. The Riston Inn already had the shadow of a high-end hotel in later generations.
“So you’re Young Master Will Reinhardt! Mr. Herbert has already instructed that if you come back, you’ll go straight in to see him. Please come in.”
The attendant hurriedly walked to the door and pushed it open for me.
“Thank you.”
I thanked him and entered.
The brand new hall was decorated with new candles and crystal chandeliers. Young and beautiful maids carried trays as they busily shuttled between the first and second floors.
“Young Master, please go to the side… Ah, Master! You’re back. I’ll report to Manager Elena now.”
One of the maids looked at me in delight, then darted off to the scullery.
After a while, Elena rushed out.
“Young Master Will, you’re back. Mr. Herbert is on the third floor. I’ll bring you up now.”
“No, you go ahead. I’ll go up myself. You’ve done well, Elena.”
Looking at Elena, who was dressed appropriately and full of energy, I couldn’t help but praise her.
“Thank you for your compliment, Young Master.”
“Go get busy.”
“Yes.”
I walked up the stairs to the second floor. Just like the first floor, the second floor, which was specially used to receive nobles, was also full. Unlike the chaos on the first floor, the people eating here were clearly quieter and more elegant.
Satisfied, I was about to head to the third floor when a female voice cried from a window seat on the second floor.
“Young Master, please let go. Our inn doesn’t provide such service. I still have to continue working…”
