[Evelyn’s angle]
It was already noon when Dylan and I returned to the bakery. The backpack on Dylan’s back was already filled with Red Ginseng Fruits. Red Ginseng Fruits were a unique type of fruit. Adding them in the bread would make the bread’s fragrance even stronger and the texture even softer. This was also the reason why the bread in Eddie’s Bakery was popular in Putinino Town. Dylan had entered the forest early in the morning to pick the freshest Red Ginseng Fruits.
Probably because Catherine was about to leave, she didn’t tell Mom and Dad or Dylan about me getting drunk and running away last night, so I could still go out in the afternoon as usual.
I asked Mom and Dad what they thought about Catherine leaving. All Mom and Dad said was that they should respect Catherine, but I could tell they were worried too. In the coffee shop, I watched Catherine leave and I was feeling down until I was back at the bakery again.
“Beauty, aren’t you selling bread?”
A slightly familiar voice sounded in my ears, pulling me back to reality.
“It’s you!” I exclaimed as I looked at the person in front of me.
He looked at me with a smile in his beautiful blue eyes, making my heart beat uncontrollably again.
Oh God! Catherine, I had let you down. I was just missing you, but in the blink of an eye, I was seduced by another man. It was my fault! My will was weak.
Before I could finish my confession to Catherine, the man’s pleasant voice sounded in my ears again.
“Evelyn, we meet again. Like I said, we’re attracted to each other.”
Oh! Please stop messing with my heart and let me repent for my sins.
“No, we don’t know each other.” I said quickly, glancing around as I spoke. Luckily, Mom and Dad were busy in the back kitchen and there was no one else in the store.
But why did my face still feel so hot even though I kept denying it? It was like there was hot steam constantly burning my face.
The smile on the man’s face became more obvious. He said, “Evelyn, what are you worried about? I just want to buy some bread.”
“I-I’m not worried.”
I didn’t want to say another word to him, because it would make my heart race and I was afraid it would just pop right out of my throat.
No one would ever understand how it felt when a cold person only melted in front of you. It would make you fall uncontrollably.
“Evelynn, are you sure you want me to keep waiting here? Or do you actually want to talk to me more and spend a bit more time with me?”
“I… I don’t.” I looked up abruptly and met his eyes, expressing my thoughts.
“Of course, even if I want to, I won’t say it.” I thought in my mind.
“Then, I want two of the best bread in your shop.”
He finally stopped teasing me, which was a huge relief.
I glanced at him and saw that he was still laughing, and he was even laughing harder and harder. Suddenly, I realized that he was teasing me! This bad guy!
Putting two of the most expensive breads from the glass cabinet onto a tray, I thought for a moment and turned around to put the bread into a bag. Then, I smiled and handed him the bread.
The man looked at me and narrowed his eyes. His smile at the corners of his mouth didn’t change, but he didn’t reach out to take what I handed him.
“Did he find out?” My heart was beating like a drum. I wondered if I should take the bread back and give him a new one.
Unexpectedly, he took the bag a second before I retracted my hand. Then, he walked over to the chair that the bakery provided for guests to eat and sat down.
My eyes widened as I watched him take one of the breads out of the bag and put the other on the table.
Didn’t he want a takeout? Why was he eating in the shop again?
I was doomed, I was doomed. I was afraid I was going to destroy the reputation of Eddie’s Bakery with my hands.
Watching him eat the entire bread expressionlessly, my nervousness turned into confusion.
“Didn’t I put wasabi inside just now?” I tilted my head in confusion, then turned around to check the label of the condiment I just put in. That was right! It was wasabi! And I even put half of it in there.
“Has his palate been eaten by dogs?”
Perhaps because my gaze was too fiery, he turned to look at me, then walked towards me with another piece of bread.
“Jesus! What is he doing? He’s not trying to hit me, is he?” I took two steps back guiltily. He was still in the shop. If the bread didn’t taste right, he could ask me for an exchange! No, there was no need to be so cruel!’
“Evelyn.”
“Yes!” Oh! No! Why did I react reflexively again?
As expected, the man laughed.
“Evelyn, don’t be so nervous. I was just wondering if the bread in your shop has gone off or if you’ve put something in it. Why do I feel like it doesn’t taste right?”
The man’s expression didn’t change as he spoke. He obviously didn’t look like he was doubtful. Besides, how could he not taste the wasabi? I didn’t believe it, but I couldn’t figure out what he was up to either.
For the sake of the bakery’s reputation, I put up a professional fake smile. “Sir, the breads in our shop are all baked on each day.”
“Then eat it.”
Holding the bread that had returned to my hands, I was a little dumbfounded. So, must I eat it?
“Can I get another one for you?”
The man smiled and shook his head. “Take it as a treat from me. Or is it that you don’t even dare to eat the bread your bakery makes?”
