[Evelyn’s angle]
The night in Putinino Town was beautiful. The dark blue night sky was dotted with twinkling stars. The night breeze was gentle, accompanied by the chirping of cicadas that transformed into a lullaby to put people to sleep.
I really enjoyed the feeling of lying on the table by the window and looking up at the night sky. It made me feel very relaxed.
However, every time this happened, a pair of hands would grab my ears and wake me up so that I could lie back on the bed and sleep. I didn’t feel anything in the past when Catherine hadn’t left, but once she was gone, she seemed to be everywhere.
I tried to remember what had happened in the last two days, and I couldn’t help but feel uneasy. Especially that man, something about him seemed strange.
Rubbing my temples, I was about to go to the kitchen to heat up a glass of milk.
The moment I walked out of the room, I saw Dylan standing at our parents’ door. What was he doing?
“Dylan?” I called out to him.
He seemed startled and he looked at me with panic in his eyes. At that moment, the door to Mom and Dad’s room suddenly opened.
“Evelyn, why aren’t you asleep yet? Are you still thinking about Catherine?”
After a moment of silence, I nodded.
Mom walked up to me and gently caressed my head. “Don’t worry. Catherine will take care of herself.”
After listening to Mom, it suddenly occurred to me that Catherine might have told Mom and Dad the same thing about not letting the two of them contact her.
The passing of the family leader, the bastard daughter inheriting the family business, and not allowing anyone close to her to contact her, all these signs indicated that she had already guessed that she would be in danger when she returned to the Cape family.
My heart shook. What should I do? What could I do for Catherine?
“Evelyn. Evelyn.” My mind was buzzing, and I didn’t come to my senses until my parents anxiously called out to me a few times.
“Mom, Catherine is in danger. How can I help her?” I suddenly jumped into Mom’s arms and was extremely terrified.
Dad and Dylan were both startled by my state and they quickly gathered around me.
“Don’t be afraid, Evelyn. Don’t be afraid. Catherine is also Mom and Dad’s child. Mom and Dad will protect her.” Mom stroked my hair and comforted me softly.
I gradually calmed down under the comfort. Mom had barely hugged me before, and this seemed to be the first time I had ever gotten comfort from Mom’s hug.
Mom’s body was cold and had a light fragrance. I didn’t know why, but I believed her words. Mom could protect Catherine.
“Evelyn, how old are you now? Why are you acting like a child with Mom?” A cold voice sounded.
Why hadn’t I thrown this sharp-tongued brother away when I was a kid? I stared at Dylan fiercely and unwillingly got out of Mom’s arms.
Dad pretended to be angry and patted the back of Dylan’s head gently.
“Brat, you only know how to bully your sister.”
Dylan grunted at me while I stuck my tongue out at him.
“Ah, Mom and Dad only dote on Sister. I’m a pitiful little boy with no one to love me. Ah, why is my life so miserable?” As he spoke, he opened his eyes and wiped his nonexistent tears at me.
This little drama king, why didn’t we think of sending you to act before?
“You brat.” Mom couldn’t help but sneer at Dylan and she immediately added, “Alright, it’s already so late. You guys should go to bed.”
“Alright, Mom. I’ll go to the kitchen to heat up a glass of milk.”
“Okay, go!” This time it was Dad who patted my head.
Although I liked the feeling of being pampered, would I not be able to grow taller if I kept getting patted on the head? Thinking of this, I stroked my hair and walked towards the kitchen.
After heating up two glasses of milk, I knocked on Dylan’s door, but no one answered. I tried pushing, and sure enough, he went out.
I placed the milk on the table and was about to leave. Unexpectedly, I saw his opened notebook that had something written halfway.
It said when and how he should ask his friend to check on Catherine while not being discovered.
I couldn’t help but chuckle, knowing that he thought about it for me, and my heart felt warm. Dylan might have a bad temper and a sharp tongue, and he liked to keep an eye on me, but he was still a good brother.
I put the milk to the bedside table and left the room. Since he didn’t want to tell me, I would pretend that I didn’t know about it!
Humming a tune, I felt that my depressing mood had been relieved.
“Catherine, since so many people care about you, please protect yourself. This will always be your home. When you’re tired, please come back anytime.”
Looking at the bright moon outside the window, I prayed.
