Chapter 57: Chapter 57: I Won’t Let You Go, I Will Still Pester You, I Like You, Only You
Yes, she will die.
Perhaps her death was near.
Even if she worked hard and strove for the position of the Yin-Yang Officer, which would allow her to save her parents’ souls, she would not be able to escape the fate of death.
Gong Siyu hugged Ji Younai tightly in his arms. He frowned, his lips pressed tightly together.
He was heartbroken and his chest started to tremble, especially when Ji Younai said she didn’t know when she would die.
The fear that stemmed from deep within began to intensify.
He was not afraid that Ji Younai would leave him because he had countless ways to tie her to him.
However, how could he keep her alive?
How could he keep her all to himself if she was dead?
He lowered his head and buried his head in her fragrant neck.
After a moment of silence, Gong Siyu spoke up in a hoarse voice, “I won’t let you go, I’ll continue messing with you. I like you and only you. You’re the only one I want by my side. My Ji Younai will not die and will be fine. She will always be healthy and stay with me.”
Her small and clammy hand was placed gently on Gong Siyu’s chest.
She slowly opened her slightly upturned, tear-filled, almond-shaped eyes. There was some melancholy within them.
However, Gong Siyu’s serious and solemn words struck a chord in Ji Younai’s heart, like the ripples created when drops of water fall into a pond.
“Why do you prefer to believe Wen Yu’s words over what I tell you? Why don’t you believe that I will treat you well? Must what you hear as gossip really be true? I protect you as much as I can, I pamper you, and I care about you. Must all that be fake?”
Gong Siyu let go of her and looked up.
Reaching out, he grabbed Ji Younai’s chin, forcing her to look at him.
Focusing his gaze on her, his eyes looked as sharp as a knife.
Tears were glistening in her eyes and she was dodging his gaze due to how shy she was. Ji Younai did not want to look into Gong Siyu’s eyes but couldn’t resist them because of how enchanting they were. Her eyelashes quivered a little, like a butterfly flapping its wings. She looked away slightly and frowned slightly.
“Since you two grew up together, you must be very close to each other. Gong Siyu, you two have been childhood sweethearts for more than ten years. Compared to the few dozen days that we have met, what you have with her is definitely more important. Even I, an outsider, can tell who means more to you. I am not stupid…”
It dawned on Gong Siyu that the problem was the duration that they had known each other.
In Ji Younai’s head, she believed that time was the key to determining the depth of a relationship.
Wen Yu and Gong Siyu had known each other for more than ten years and even lived under the same roof. Hence, she believed they must have had a strong relationship.
On the other hand, she had only known Gong Siyu for a few months. What feelings could there be at this point?
Hence, at one point, she believed that Wen Yu was his woman, and that she, Ji Younai, was just redundant.
Sighing, Gong Siyu forced Ji Younai to look at him.
“My dear, can you think about it from a different perspective?”
He continued, “Wen Yu and I have known each other for more than ten years, but I don’t treat her nearly as well as I treat you, someone whom I’ve only known for a few months. Why is that?”
It was as if Ji Younai had a lively and adorable pair of bunny ears on her head. Seemingly having heard something that made her happy, Ji Younai looked up with her beautiful, teary eyes, dumbfounded for a moment. She asked in a nasally voice, “Yeah, why?”
There was an exceptionally gentle glow in his glistening eyes, and his alluring voice sounded like the music coming from a violin.
It was particularly pleasing to the ears.
Poking his slender index finger into her forehead, he exclaimed, “Silly! It’s because I adore you, of course! That’s why I’m willing to pamper you so much.”
Ji Younai’s heart immediately began pounding rapidly, her cheeks turning rosy.
But, do you think Ji Younai is that gullible?
She frowned again.
Cautiously, she asked with some displeasure, “Then aren’t you just enjoying the sense of novelty related to me?”
The joyous and gentle gaze in his eyes vanished. He raised his brows sternly and looked extremely disgruntled.
He was infuriated.
He had clearly come clean about his feelings and confessed his love to Ji Younai.
He had poured his heart out to her, and yet, she was being so heartless.
‘To her, I’m just someone who likes new things because I’m sick of the old?’
Suppressing the incredible vexation within him, he tried to stay patient.
Holding Ji Younai in his arms like she was a treasure, he made her straighten her back and sit on his lap.
Holding her face in his hands with a gloomy gaze in his eyes, he stared at her and said in a hoarse voice, “Ji Younai, I’m saying this for the last time. Wen Yu is not my woman. I used to dote on her, but that’s all in the past. She has done something to disappoint me and I can no longer treat her like one of my own. Do you understand?”
She let her jealousy and suspicion get the better of her, and almost caused him to lose the person in his arms forever.
That alone was unforgivable.
Of course, there were other things that she had done too.
Wiping away the glistening little teardrops that were hanging from her long, fine eyelashes, Gong Siyu stroked her cascading hair, pulled her into his arms again and sighing in contentment.
“Don’t use time as an excuse to undermine our relationship, and don’t compare yourself with Wen Yu either. You are a gift to me from God, unlike her.”
He continued, “When I was seriously injured because of the assassination, you were the one who risked your life to save me. You were the one who hugged me and guarded me. You were the one who refused to give up, and you were the one who gave me hope to live on.
“But what about Wen Yu? At that time, she had been lying in my brother’s bed and doing something indescribable with him.
“Ji Younai, do you know who wants me dead? My younger brother.”
Gong Siyu’s tone suddenly turned cold and hostile, with a harsh austerity that seemed overwhelming.
Ji Younai covered her tiny mouth in shock.
‘The person who tried to kill Gong Siyu that night was his younger brother? Why?
‘So, when Gong Siyu said that Wen Yu did something that disappointed him, was he referring to the fact that Wen Yu had leaped into his younger brother’s arms while he was on the verge of death?’
‘Did he feel betrayed?’
She suddenly threw her delicate arms, which were as fair as porcelain, around his. She pressed her cold little face against his cheeks and shook her head while wincing.
“Stop, let’s not talk about this anymore. Stop thinking about it too. I believe you; I believe everything you say. I won’t say that you’re just after a sense of novelty, alright?”
He turned to the side and planted a gentle kiss on Ji Younai’s smooth and tender face.
He smiled faintly and asked in an alluring voice, “Will you leave me without saying goodbye again?”
Covering her just kissed face, Ji Younai looked at Gong Siyu in shock.
She felt like her heart had fallen for him.
Her slightly red eyes were filled with tears and the mole at the corner of her eye was naturally charming. Her gaze was tender, and her long eyelashes fell slightly, forming a small shadow on her delicate face.
“Will you leave then?”
Gong Siyu’s casual yet serious question made Ji Younai fall silent.
She felt a sudden soreness in her heart that was somewhat uncomfortable.
With a frown, a gloomy gaze, and raised brows, Gong Siyu lifted Ji Younai’s chin with his finger and asked, “Why aren’t you answering?”
For some reason, Gong Siyu felt extremely uneasy when he saw the expression on Ji Younai’s face.
The unbearable uneasiness that tugged at his heart was a sign of extreme insecurity.
