The waiter turned around after delivering the wine and continued to serve cocktails to the other people who were standing around and chatting.
Jian Yan didn’t notice anything wrong with the waiter, but she noticed that someone was staring at the wine glass she had placed on the table.
On closer look, it was her stepmother, Lin Zhi.
“Head Secretary Li, what are you guys talking about?” Fu Li came over to ask.
He had been watching them chatting the whole time. When he saw Jian Yan and Li Zhou talking for so long, he knew that things were going well.
The waiter’s actions had aroused his suspicions.
Fu Li walked closer to take a look. Seeing that the wine glass was full and Jian Yan probably didn’t drink a single sip, he felt relieved.
Li Zhou said insincerely. “Oh, you’re here. It’s nothing. The Second Young Master is just in charge of a project.”
The purpose of saying this was to act as a double agent to reassure Jian Yan.
Jian Yan was quite satisfied with these words. Although she felt that something was wrong, she didn’t think too much about it. Instead, she reached out and picked up her wine glass.
She wanted to find out what Lin Zhi was up to.
Jian Yan pretended to drink from the glass, but in reality, she used her hands and arms to cover herself and poured the wine away. The cocktail spilled under the table and the wine glass was quickly emptied.
Li Zhou and Fu Li saw everything clearly. However, to Lin Zhi, whose line of sight was deliberately being blocked, Jian Yan had drunk all the alcohol that had been spiked!
She felt a thrill of joy.
She even thought about leaving Jian Yan here. There was no need to bring her to the suite. After all, it was more embarrassing for Jian Yan to go into heat in public.
However, Fu Li, who was standing beside Jian Yan, made her give up on this idea.
What if Fu Li found out about her ploy in time and took Jian Yan away? Wouldn’t her actions be a wedding gift for them then?
At this thought, Lin Zhi did not want to wait any longer and began the next step of her plan.
“There’s something wrong with the wine.” Fu Li’s expression turned ugly when he saw Jian Yan pouring the wine away.
He didn’t expect that someone would attack Jian Yan at such a big banquet. Luckily, Jian Yan found out in time. Otherwise, she could have been hurt.
Li Zhou looked at the empty glass he had just finished and was a little dumbfounded. He said in a trembling voice, “I’ve finished everything. Should I go to the hospital to pump my stomach now?”
“You should go if you’re not feeling well, but there’s a good chance your glass of wine was fine. There was no sediment in it, and the color was normal…” Jian Yan explained in a friendly manner, “Maybe I’m just overthinking this. We can talk about the contract later. I want to be alone. Don’t come over.”
Those last words were clearly directed at Fu Li.
Li Zhou turned his head away, not daring to meet his boss’ gaze.
Jian Yan walked away and found a quiet place to sit down.
She was sure that Lin Zhi was here for her, but she had no interest in letting others get involved in their dispute. They weren’t that close.
A moment later, Lu Xue walked over with a dark expression. She gave the other a room number and said, “Brother Fu Yuan has something to talk to you about. It’s very important. It involves your mother’s past. He wants you to go up now. He won’t wait for you.”
She had received a note from a waiter that asked her to relay that message.
The waiter said that he thought Jian Yan looked too frightening and didn’t dare to pass it to her. Hence, he asked Lu Xue for a favor.
Initially, Lu Xue didn’t want to come over. However, Aunt Lin persuaded her to mend her relationship with Jian Yan and help Zhao Peng.
She recalled the affectionate words Zhao Peng had said to her in the corner of the garden, as well as the intimacy he had shown her when he had applied medicine on her face. Her heart warmed and she came.
Jian Yan replied, “Is this the only message?”
Lu Xue rummaged through her pocket and wanted to take out the note, but she couldn’t find it. She nodded and said, “More or less. Don’t take Zhao Peng’s words to heart. He was just trying to help me. He’s not a bad person. Don’t let Fu Li harm him.
Also, don’t interfere with Fu Yuan and Jian Wan’s relationship…
Jian Yan looked at her as if she was an idiot.
“Why didn’t you say that to Jian Wan when she interfered in our relationship?”
Lu Xue said confidently, “At that time, I was still young. I didn’t know that the two of you were dating. However, I am sure that it can’t compare to Brother Fu Yuan and Sister Wan. Otherwise, you guys wouldn’t have separated.”
Jian Yan couldn’t believe her ears. “Haha, according to your logic, even if the scumbag Fu and that mistress Wan are separated, they deserve it.”
With that, she headed straight for the elevator.
She did not quite believe Lu Xue’s words because she knew that Lin Zhi was behind this, yet she was fearless.
At the same time, she really hoped to get more news about her mother.
Not far away, Fu Li moved along as she did.
Before leaving, he said to Li Zhou, “There’s residual alcohol in the wine glass. Send it for testing. If there’s a problem, you know what to do with the waiter who delivered the wine.”
Sensing Fu Li’s intention to follow her, Jian Yan deliberately pressed a few other buttons and took a detour to Fu Yuan’s suite.
She was about to knock on the door when she realized that it was ajar..
