Chapter 9 Stealing Paintings
Ye He took Ye Miao’s hand and they sat on the sofa, disregarding Li Ruoqin who’d been standing at the door, forcing her to walk over herself awkwardly.
“What’s the matter?” Ye He inquired as she gazed out the window. The night was coming, and everything was veiled in a hazy obscurity.
“Elder sister, look at what you just said, can’t we come if you have nothing to do?” “Elder sister, I was worried you were tormented by Young Master Ji yesterday and felt sorry, so I also asked our mother along to accompany you too.”
Heh! Ye He scoffed in her heart. Did you come to accompany me only to witness how ashamed I am?
“Sister, you worry excessively. Last night, Ji Shiyan had not been furious at all; in fact, he expressed regret and even stated that I should see my old acquaintances more regularly.”
“I think he’s beginning to understand me, and I seem to like him a little bit too,” Ye He continued thoughtfully. “What should I do?” she grinned lightly, with a wistful expression.
Ye He caught a glimpse of Ye Miao’s reaction out of the corner of her eye.
“What! Ji Shiyan wasn’t angry? That day he clearly…” said Ye Miao.
“Sister apparently wants him to lose his temper with me?” Ye He puzzledly turned her head, her eyes sorrowful.
Li Ruoqin responded right away.
“What are you saying? How can your sister think that? If Young Master Ji wasn’t furious, Miao Miao would be glad for you.”
Ye Miao was still brooding, pondering on one side which part had gone wrong. However, Ji Shiyan did not truly drive away Ye He, a boisterous woman.
“We are here today to inform you that your sister won first place in the school art competition and will soon be on the same stage as top of the class Xu Zhou. After the show, she will undoubtedly become the top trending star in the future. Miao Miao’s oil painting also won the gold award of the National Art Exhibition. Do you realize how important this award is?”
“Mom…” Ye Miao responded abruptly, grabbing Li Ruoqin’s sleeve, her eyes alarmed, yet she didn’t say anything else.
“Oh? Then congrats to my sister,” Ye He said softly, with a smidgeon of skepticism in her eyes.
“Ye He, don’t blame mom for telling you this; look at yourself now; do you want to depend on Young Master Ji for the rest of your life? You don’t look like a Ye family daughter.”
“Will I appear like a daughter of the Ye family if I am better than Ye Miao in everything?” Ye He replied.
“Of course!” Li Ruoqin stated emphatically, “the Ye family took you from the orphanage when you were 15 years old and sent you to school. The family provided both you and Miao Miao, yet you didn’t live up to our expectations and didn’t learn anything in the end.” Li Ruoqin sighed heavily. Hating iron for not becoming steel.
Ye He laughed loudly and leaned closer to Li Ruoqin’s ear, “If Mom genuinely thinks I’m better than Ye Miao? Then why did you purposefully destroy my application a year ago?”
The hot breath spread around Li Ruoqin’s neck. Her heart became feverish, and her face contorted, “What nonsense are you talking about!”
She stood up anxiously, dragged Ye Miao, and was about to depart when she stopped after two steps and turned back. “By the way, there is a very important bid tomorrow. Go and ask Ji Shiyan to give this opportunity to the Ye family, okay?”
“I’ll try my best,” Ye He said, playing with the tips of her slightly wavy hair, her tone carefree.
Ye He remained motionless on the sofa after the guests had left. She couldn’t be any more familiar with Ye Miao’s skill of painting. Will she be able to take home the golden award? It all comes down to money if you want to be shortlisted.
She returned to her bedroom, switched on the computer, and looked up the art exhibition. The gold medalists’ works were featured on the front page.
She recognized it with a single glance!
The golden award-winning painting was plainly created by her at Ye’s residence a year ago. She didn’t like the picture because it depicted a scene from her nightmare, so she hid it on the top of the closet underneath a pile of items.
“Well, you, Ye Miao, dared to present my work in the competition.”
“You went and took my belongings, Miao, and now it’s time to face the consequences.”
She shut the computer off and had an idea in mind.
