Chapter 2: The Arrival of Catastrophe

On the 15th of November, there was half a month left before the eruption of the solar flare.
There were only a few people left in the city. Other than these people, all that was left were several extreme vehicles that traversed through the land to deliver resources.
…
On the 19th of November, there was nobody left in the streets.
…
On the 23rd of November, every country in the world delivered a notice that the solar flare had completely erupted, and a super ion storm was engulfing the solar system. Earth was in a precarious situation.
…
On the 25th of November, the super ion storm descended onto Earth. A boundless aurora appeared in the sky. It was colorful and eye-catching.
As time passed, the light of the aurora became increasingly bright, and the entire sky was enveloped by its colorful radiance.
Beauty was often accompanied by endless danger.
Shrouded by the aurora, the temperature of the globe plummeted several degrees, and the air filled with radiation.
Wu Peng sat in his shelter and turned on his satellite television to watch the report of the aurora.
In the following days, the aurora replaced sunlight. The radiation on the surface of the globe would slowly increase as the aurora shrouded the sky.
Wu Peng did not force anything since he could not head out and stayed within the shelter all the while.
Until three days later when a major headline appeared on the Internet titled, “Warning! A super meteor is crashing toward Earth at an accelerated rate.”
Wu Peng shuddered when he saw the news that had just appeared.
According to the initial estimates, the meteor would crash into Earth in two days. He did not expect there to be such a change.
However, all of the countries in the world had come up with a countermeasure for these kinds of situations by intercepting the meteor.
If they allowed the meteor to crash into Earth in its entirety, at least half of the world’s living creatures would be exterminated, and the human race might go extinct.
This meant that they needed to smash the meteor into fragments to reduce the overall impact and lessen the possible casualties.
Even though every country in the world was prepared for this, smashing the meteor into pieces would generate a large number of fragments that would fall randomly. Whether or not they could resist the impact of these fragments was also a problem.
Wu Peng could not help but knit his brows after he finished reading the report and started to worry.
He had built his shelter himself and was sure of exactly how sturdy it was. He knew that his shelter would not be able to resist the impact of the meteor if it was to land anywhere near his shelter.
Even though he had never encountered the situation of a meteoric impact, he judged that the impact of the falling meteor would be immensely large based on how seriously the various countries viewed the situation.
This meant that it was better for him to make a plan early.
“Upgrade the walls of the shelter!” After deliberating for a while, Wu Peng immediately decided before he stood up and walked toward the wall.
[Shelter Protection]
[Can be upgraded. Increase shock absorption capabilities. Increase anti-radiation capabilities.]
[Upgrade Aspect: Level One Iron Protection (300)]
In the next second, Wu Peng decided on the upgrade.
He had accumulated a good amount of points over the days even though he could not head out. Even so, he had amassed 950 points over the past few days.
He had enough to upgrade the defense systems of the shelter to that of an Iron Protection.
As Wu Peng made his decision, the walls of the shelter began to change.
Soon, the upgrading of the shelter was complete, and it had become studier and more stable than before.
Wu Peng could not help but be amazed when he saw the miraculous scene.
At the same time, he felt more at ease.
[Shelter Protection]
[Can be upgraded. Increase shock absorption capabilities. Increase anti-radiation capabilities.]
[Upgrade Aspect: Level Two Iron Protection (500)]
Wu Peng thought for a while when he looked at the number of points required to upgrade the defenses of the shelter again and chose not to continue upgrading the shelter. Instead, he decided to keep the few points as a reserve in case any accidents occurred.
He knew that he would still have time to upgrade his shelter if a meteor was truly going to land somewhere near the shelter.
He had seen it just now. The upgrading of the shelter’s defense systems was instantaneous.
…
Over the next few days, Wu Peng did not limit himself to his shelter. He occasionally put on protective gear and headed out to have a look while he amassed a few more points.
During this time, he also set up a tower at the door of his shelter that could automatically release arrows and attack his enemies.
No one knew what the situation in the future would be like, and he needed to guarantee his safety.
This day, after Wu Peng woke up, he wanted to put on his protective gear and head out to have a look just like he always did. However, he heard the news that came from the television.
“The plan to shatter the meteor had started!”
The television showed an image of many missiles charging up into the sky and piercing through the clouds.
There were several hundred… no, several thousand… no, tens of thousands of these missiles…
The countries of the world had used tens of thousands of guided missiles to deal with the meteor that was crashing into Earth.
Sparks flared in the atmosphere as the shrapnel of the meteor was sent flying in all directions.
…
Sometime later, the location where a few of these pieces of shrapnel would land had been determined. Coincidentally, one of these meteors would crash into the city Wu Peng was in.
He immediately cursed in frustration when he saw the report on the television.
“System, continue to upgrade the shelter’s defensive systems,” Wu Peng immediately ordered.
In the blink of an eye, the walls of the shelter transformed and became a silver-white color.
He had spent a total of 800 points to make the shelter had completely changed.
However, Wu Peng did not have much time to think. The meteor was arriving, he would have to sustain an immense impact when it landed.
Even though the shelter had been upgraded, the tremors of the impact would be unavoidable. It was best for him to be prepared for that.
Wu Peng quickly completed his preparations, fastened himself to the wall, and quietly awaited the arrival of the meteor.
Time felt incredibly arduous.
Even though Wu Peng was mentally prepared, he could not stop his thoughts from straying.
Suddenly, he heard a deafening crash that was followed by a tremor that was horrifying without parallel.
The lights of the shelter were instantly extinguished and Wu Peng lost consciousness under the immense impact of the meteor.
…
Sometime later, Wu Peng felt an unending cold assault him. He felt as though he had fallen into a cavern of ice.
He instinctively opened his eyes, but all he could see was darkness.
However, a smile formed on his face the next second when he realized that he had resisted the impact of the meteor and all was fine now.
However, there was no electricity in the shelter.
Previously, the power of the shelter had been supplied from outside. Without a doubt, the external power supply was not able to resist the impact of the meteor. He had expected that it would be damaged.
Fortunately, he had prepared a variety of generators beforehand to deal with this unique situation.
He groped around in the darkness and arrived at his storeroom. After a few maneuvers, the light finally returned to the shelter.
Because of the upgrades in the shelter’s defense systems, most of the items in the shelter had not been severely damaged.
As Wu Peng’s gaze landed on the generator once again, a bold thought appeared in his mind.
[Manual Generator]
[Can be upgraded. Supply a more convenient source of power, as well as a greater amount of power.]
