Chapter 35: Encountering Survivors Again
Bang!
Lorne did not intend to waste his breath on this man. Instead, he raised the Desert Eagle and shot at the man’s head.
The man still had that proud expression on his face before he died. Lorne looked at the man’s corpse and shook his head. There were really many lunatics in this world. This guy was really not afraid of death.
Then, Lorne took the crystal cores and walked to the gas station. Earlier, he had seen that there seemed to be a well-maintained car at the gas station. He planned to take it to save energy.
There were still three cars left at the gas station that were in perfect condition. Lorne chose an SUV and checked the gas meter. It was full, so he drove off in it..
He had sensed some other people in the convenience store, but since they did not come out, he had no interest in communicating with them.
The two people hiding in the convenience store saw Lorne take out the Desert Eagle and blow up their companion’s head. They were so scared that they didn’t dare to come out.
They hid in the corner of the convenience store, afraid that Lorne would notice them.
“Liz, is he gone?” The man in the corner asked his girlfriend.
“Why don’t you see for yourself?” The girlfriend said coldly.
“Liz, you weren’t like this before. You were very gentle,” her boyfriend whispered.
“I realize now that my previous gentleness was towards dogs. I only realize now how blind I was to find such a boyfriend.”
When Liz thought of how her boyfriend wanted her to seduce that person, endless anger and regret appeared in her heart. What did she see in such a person?
“Wasn’t it to save our lives so that we could survive?” Her boyfriend defended himself softly.
“I have had enough of you,” Liz growled.
Her boyfriend seemed to be displeased with her tone, and the two of them began to quarrel.
…
On the other hand, Lorne was driving on the road while Whitey was sitting in the passenger seat.
“Whitey, let me show you the joy of driving today,” Lorne said excitedly to Whitey. This was the first time he had driven such a cool SUV.
If the world had not suddenly changed so much, it might not have been possible for Lorne to drive such a good car.
Whitey lay lazily in the passenger seat, as if it did not understand why Lorne was so excited. The speed of this car was only so-so, and was not as fast as it.
However, lying down was quite comfortable. Whitey turned around and continued to maintain its idle posture.
Lorne was still immersed in the joy of driving. There were no obstacles on the road ahead, so he could step on the accelerator without any worries. He could even step all the way down without worrying about running into anyone.
But happy days were always so short. Although joyride was fun, gas consumption was also high. After driving for a long while, the SUV’s gas gauge began to reach the low levels.
Lorne had no choice but to stop at a rest stop to refuel.
The rest stop looked a little dilapidated. He did not know what had happened, but he saw a few cars parked randomly in front.
One of the cars looked expensive, but it was stained with dried blood, making it look messy. This rest stop was very silent. No monsters appeared.
Lorne looked at the small restaurant. The door was closed, and it was dark inside, making it impossible to see what was inside.
“Whitey, stay here. I’ll go refuel the car,” Lorne said to Whitey before getting out of the car.
Swiping card was useless now, he could only open the gas barrel with force and draw the fuel out with a tube.
While Lorne was refueling the car, a man was looking at him from behind the window on the second floor of the restaurant with a shotgun in his hand.
This man’s name was Mark. He was originally a gang member who had mingled in the city. He looked very fierce and the muscles on his hands were bulging.
When the disaster was announced, Mark could not stand the thought of being restrained by the government shelter, so he came to this rest area and took it as a shelter.
Mark was very lucky. After surviving the meteorite landing disaster, he began to rely on this rest stop to rob passersby. The bloodstains on the expensive sports car that Lorne had seen were from one of the people they had robbed earlier.
Tap tap tap. The sound of footsteps interrupted Lorne. He quickly raised his Desert Eagle and pointed it in the direction of the sound.
“Don’t be nervous. I’m also a survivor. We live here. I came down to ask if you need help.” The boy who came down saw that Lorne had a gun and quickly raised his hands to explain his intention.
“Then why didn’t I see you before?” Lorne asked the boy warily.
“Isn’t it because I am afraid of encountering those monsters? You also know how troublesome those monsters are. You should have encountered them on the way. By the way, where did you come from?”
The boy explained to Lorne.
Lorne stared at the boy for a while before putting down the gun.
“Let’s go in together,” the boy said.
Lorne followed the boy into the lounge. He had a faint smile on his face as he knew it was going to be interesting.
When they entered the lounge, someone immediately welcomed Lorne.
“Hello, my name is Mark. I am the leader of this shelter. Welcome to our shelter,” Mark said straightforwardly.
Lorne looked around the hall and saw many survivors.
After entering the room, the little boy walked to a woman. This person seemed to be his sister.
There was a long scar on her face, making her look very scary. Then, Lorne saw a rather beautiful woman.
Such a beautiful woman did not attract the attention of these survivors.
“This is my girlfriend, Maureen. Maureen, greet our new friend,” Mark said to Maureen when he saw Lorne’s gaze on her.
Maureen nodded at Lorne.
“Haha, Maureen is a little shy. Eat something first and sleep here. It must be tiring to travel,” Mark asked Maureen to prepare food for him.
Then Mark led Lorne into a room.
“Sorry to bother you,” Lorne said to Mark.
“What is there to thank? We have to help each other when we are outside. We are all people who survived this disaster.” Mark said heroically to Lorne and turned to leave.
Lorne sat on the bed with his eyes closed in thought. No one knew what he was thinking.
Before long, there was a knock on the door. Lorne quickly got up and opened the door. He saw that it was Maureen, who was holding a bowl of rice and a dish.
“Sorry for disturbing you guys. I am even freeloading.” Lorne thanked Maureen.
“No worries. Hurry up and eat. You must be hungry after such a long journey.” Maureen bent down and placed the tray on the table in Lorne’s room.
When she bent down, Lorne seemed to see those full white jugs.
“Haha, I’ll start eating.” Lorne picked up his chopsticks and prepared to eat.
“Then I won’t disturb your meal.” Seeing that Lorne was about to eat, Maureen turned and walked out.
After seeing Maureen close the door and walk out, Lorne threw the chopsticks on the table and lay in bed, deep in thought.
…
At this moment, Mark was in his room, cleaning his shotgun gently. After a while, Maureen walked into Mark’s room and sat on his lap.
“Did that man eat it?” Mark asked as he pinched Maureen’s fleshy thigh.
