Chapter 44: Take By Force
“You have to transfer the number of credit points you’re betting me first,” said Gu Qingshan.
Huang Hui glared at Gu Qingshan and said, “We haven’t even started and you want to take the amount I’m betting first?”
Gu Qingshan shrugged. “Look, there are so many people on your side here. If you lose and you don’t hold up your end of the bargain, I can’t do anything about it.”
“And if I lose,” Gu Qingshan used a hand to point at his own chest, “I won’t be able to get away from all of you either.”
Huang Hui fell silent.
“Why, if you’re so stingy with money, then why bet in the first place?” Gu Qingshan laughed.
He could tell that this man was obviously here to create trouble for himself.
Gu Qingshan thought it strange that a rich man’s son whom he didn’t know at all had come to cause trouble for him.
But Huang Hui didn’t say anything.
His daily expenses were very high, and because of his poor reputation at home, his family seldom arranged for him to do anything, so he didn’t have much money in the bank either.
He hadn’t expected Gu Qingshan to be so sharp and be able to stump him with just mere words.
But his reputation was at stake now, and reputation was even more important to an aristocrat like Huang Hui. Since Gu Qingshan had said something like that already, Huang Hui had to take the money out if he wanted to continue playing this game.
Damn it. He was determined to make sure this fellow didn’t get away with it.
Huang Hui finally clenched his teeth and said, “I’ll bet with you.”
After saying that, he felt that something didn’t seem quite right.
He was the one who was forcing Gu Qingshan to bet on his archery skills. Why did it now seem like Gu Qingshan was forcing him to bet?
Huang Hui took a card out and passed it to Gu Qingshan.
“Here’s a cash card, transfer the credit points yourself.”
That was all the allowance he had.
Gu Qingshan took the card, scanned it with his personal optical computer, and transferred the credit points.
Even the tiniest mosquito was still meat. Nobody ever felt that they had too much money.
Gu Qingshan returned the card to Huang Hui, and his mood improved.
“How do you intend to compete?” asked Gu Qingshan.
Huang Hui replied, “We’ll shoot as many times as we like for one minute and count the total number of points. The one with the most points wins.”
Then, he snapped his fingers loudly.
A middle-aged man wearing the club’s uniform squeezed through the crowd.
“Young Master Hui, leave it to me,” said the middle-aged man.
He looked toward Gu Qingshan and said, “Hello, I am the champion of the Federation’s National Archery Competition for three years in a row now, Wu Sheng.”
“You won’t be very soon,” said Gu Qingshan as he scanned him carefully.
Gu Qingshan and Wu Sheng took their places in their own lane.
“Start!” shouted one of the coaches.
Wu Sheng used a practiced hand to pull an arrow out. He focused his energies and calmed down. Then, he pulled the bow, took aim, and released the arrow.
Swoosh!
The arrow struck the red circle right in the middle of the target board firmly.
There was cheering and clapping.
“10 points!”
“He’s really the top archer three years in a row!”
“That’s amazing!”
“Look at his posture and his accuracy!”
There was a smile on Huang Hui’s face as well.
They all turned to look at the other lane.
Gu Qingshan had already sent three arrows out. All of them were stuck in the border of the target board and were lined up neatly next to one another.
All the wealthy young men burst out laughing.
“1 point.”
“He only got 1 point.”
“Oh no no, he got three 1-pointers.”
“Haha, this boy can’t win after all.”
Gu Qingshan didn’t seem bothered by any of this. He pulled another arrow out and shot immediately.
On the other lane, Wu Sheng took a long time to take aim and finally shot his second arrow.
It hit the red circle in the middle again!
10 points!
Everyone continued cheering.
Wu Sheng turned back proudly and waved the bow in his hand.
He looked over at his competitor to find that the young man just kept shooting and there were seven arrows on the target board already.
But all the arrows were only worth 1 point.
Wu Sheng shook his head and smiled mockingly.
What was the use of shooting so quickly?
Those seven arrows didn’t even add up to one arrow of his.
He took another arrow out, drew the bow back, and continued to aim.
The competition continued.
15 seconds passed.
As time went by, the cheering went down, and the murmuring among the crowd became louder and louder, eventually making it difficult to focus.
Wu Sheng sent another arrow out, but because his emotions were affected by the murmuring of the crowd around him, he only scored 8 points.
He couldn’t resist turning his head to look and see what had happened on the other side.
The next moment, Wu Sheng dropped his bow onto the floor. He stood where he was and didn’t move at all from shock.
He saw that his competitor had used his arrows to draw a line on the outermost circle of the target board, and the arrows had all neatly landed right next to one another.
After that, the arrows drew a line around the second outermost circle and was slowly making its way towards the innermost circle.
It was yet another neat and orderly circle of arrows!
After that, it was the third circle, which was a little closer to the middle red circle.
Gu Qingshan had been happily shooting for 15 seconds.
In these 15 seconds, the five quivers next to his lane had all been used up.
“Done,” said Gu Qingshan.
The entire target board was filled with arrows neatly positioned next to one another, and you could barely see any empty space on the target board.
Even the red circle right in the middle was filled with arrows. There wasn’t a single gap left.
Meanwhile, Wu Sheng only had five arrows on his target board.
No matter how hard Wu Sheng tried, he could never do what Gu Qingshan had done in one minute.
Gu Qingshan packed his bow and turned to leave.
When he walked past Huang Hui, Gu Qingshan paused for a while and said, “Thanks for the credit points.”
“It’s not easy to keep my money,” replied Huang Hui.
He turned to a man by his side and gave instructions, “Go and call the person in charge of the archery range.”
Soon enough, the archery range manager and a few other staff members came running over.
From afar, the manager quickly put a big smile on and asked, “Young Master Hui, what can I do for you?”
Huang Hui used his chin to point at Gu Qingshan and said, “I lost my bow and eventually discovered it in this person’s hands.”
“That’s right, this fellow is a thief.”
“Call the police and throw him in jail right now.”
“He has to return Young Master Hui’s bow first.”
A large group of them started yelling all these things loudly.
The manager looked at Gu Qingshan and said without hesitation, “Sir, please return the bow to Young Master Hui.”
He had just been given instructions earlier. There was something very important that he had to do today.
Gu Qingshan replied, “I brought this bow here myself. You can check the closed-circuit cameras within the club. I never went anywhere near them.”
The manager shook his head and said, “The closed-circuit cameras broke down recently. You’d better return the bow to Young Master Hui, otherwise, I’m going to call the police.”
Before Gu Qingshan could react, the manager picked up his communication device and called the police.
The manager had been given instructions to make sure this boy got arrested.
In a short while, a few policemen reached the archery range.
They greeted Huang Hui before walking over.
“We suspect that you are involved in a case of theft. Please come with us,” one of the policemen said very directly.
Gu Qingshan became a little annoyed when he saw the policemen.
“Are you really the police? Where’s the evidence?” he asked.
He looked over at them coldly.
Everyone felt their hearts turn cold and subconsciously stopped talking. They didn’t even know why they felt this way.
One of the policemen subconsciously placed a hand on his gun.
They all simultaneously felt that there was something strange about this boy.
