Chapter 47: Token from the Grim Reaper
“No, that’s not it. I need to leave right now, but I can’t let anyone know about it.” Gu Qingshan decided to just say it as directly as he could.
Anna crossed her arms and looked at him seriously.
He didn’t seem to be lying.
“Is it something urgent?” Anna asked seriously as she decided to stop teasing him.
“It’s extremely urgent,” replied Gu Qingshan.
“Come with me,” said Anna quickly after thinking for just one second.
This young man gave her a very strange feeling, and she had a good impression of him somehow.
When they first met, he had mixed a few drinks that were really satisfying.
After that, her system had evaluated his fighting skills to be at S level.
He was also involved in the Federation’s secret and had something to do with the reason why the Federation had suddenly mobilized so many of their troops.
So regardless of whether it was for work or herself, Anna was willing to help him.
While the two of them were whispering to one another, they had no idea that the security details watching them closely were completely floored by what they were seeing.
Just the day before, Princess Anna had poured an entire glass of wine onto a member of parliament’s face only because he had wanted to kiss her hand in greeting.
But today, the princess allowed this man to simply pull her along and allowed him to stand so close to her. They were even whispering to each other!
But the princess didn’t look unhappy at all. In fact, she looked very curious.
While they were still making guesses, the princess had already walked to the huge French window and was operating her personal optical computer.
Seconds later, there was the humming noise of a machine.
The humming noise quickly became louder.
A flying shuttle painted fiery red landed in mid-air after a few seconds, and its engine roared loudly.
The flying shuttle adjusted its angle a little and opened the hatch in front of the princess.
“Get ready to board,” said Princess Anna as she turned to Gu Qingshan.
Gu Qingshan looked at the flying shuttle and nodded.
This was Running Flame, an Ultra High-Speed Flying Shuttle. It was the fastest flying shuttle model in the world, and there were only five of them in total.
This was the princess’s official mode of transport, so she brought it everywhere she went.
Anna placed a hand on the glass of the French window.
The glass quickly melted and dripped down the outside of the building like water.
“Let’s go,” said Anna.
“Okay.” Gu Qingshan glanced at the time.
He still had two minutes, so he was still on time.
He jumped into the flying shuttle with Anna.
“Princess! Princess! Where are you going?” shouted the old man after them in a panic.
Each member of the security detail was stunned.
They had never met such a rebellious client before. She didn’t care for any formalities and just left whenever she wanted.
“Where am I going? Oh, I’m going to practice my archery skills with my archery coach. I’ll be back in time for the banquet tonight.”
“Oh yes, get my father to compensate for this glass window. Thanks!”
Anna pulled the hatch shut.
Running Flame started up violently and became a mere black dot in the sky with a loud roaring sound, eventually disappearing out of sight.
The old man turned around and roared at the rest, “Why are all of you still standing here? Hurry up and track down where the princess is! If anything happens to her, that will be the start of a war between our two countries!”
All of the security detail personnel suddenly woke up and started getting busy.
Onboard the flying shuttle, Gu Qingshan looked at the time.
He still had one and a half minutes left.
He looked toward Anna. She was concentrating on navigating with the flying shuttle to avoid the busy skies of the capital.
There was a row of alcohol within the cockpit.
Below that shelf was a long box, and there were many ancient weapons inside it.
There were sabers, sharp knives, meteor hammers, daggers, short spears, axes, whips, long forks, and more, and all these items looked like they were of high quality and not just props.
There was also a sword in the box.
Gu Qingshan’s hand moved instinctively.
Logically speaking, the weapons within the cultivation world had been specially made and crafted with Spirit Power, so the system would recognize them as useable weapons.
But Gu Qingshan just couldn’t resist picking up the sword to try.
He gripped the sword handle.
DING!
“This is a prop that is unable to kill any demons.” The system prompt appeared immediately.
Gu Qingshan sighed.
He put the sword back.
He hadn’t touched a sword in a very long time. Now he really wanted a sword and he even dreamt of it. He wanted a real sword.
Forty seconds later, Running Flame landed atop a cliff in a rural part of the capital.
Gu Qingshan quietly said, “I’m really grateful for your help this time around.”
“Saying thanks doesn’t mean anything. I want a glass of Scorpius,” said Anna as she licked her lips.
She had no idea how seductive she looked right at that moment.
Gu Qingshan burst out laughing and shook his head. “No problem. If I manage to come back this time, I’ll definitely treat you to a glass.”
“Hmm? What do you mean?”
Anna could sense that there was something not quite right in the way Gu Qingshan spoke. She turned away from her screen and looked at him.
“If I manage to come back, I’ll tell you a secret and then treat you to a glass,” said Gu Qingshan.
He still had 20 more seconds.
Gu Qingshan was all ready to go.
He didn’t mind Anna knowing about this secret.
When they’d first met, he had already decided that he wanted to make sure Anna wouldn’t have to face the tragic fate she had met in his previous life.
Ten seconds left.
“I’m off,” said Gu Qingshan.
Anna could sense something, so she suddenly reached into her fiery red hair and pulled a thin, black chain out.
There was a very unique pendant on this chain, and it rose up from her fair neck.
She hung the chain around Gu Qingshan’s neck and said very seriously to him, “Stay alive.”
Gu Qingshan had a look of surprise in his eyes.
He wanted to say more, but a light suddenly flashed across his eyes.
Gu Qingshan vanished from before Anna’s eyes.
A few minutes later, a shadow quietly came from afar and stopped in front of the flying shuttle.
The shadow stood up and became a man, wearing sunglasses and sporting slicked-back hair.
“Princess, you’re on an official visit. You’re stirring up a lot of trouble by leaving so suddenly.”
Von Hord held his hands out and tried to chide her, even though he knew it was pointless.
Anna quietly sat inside the cockpit and didn’t say anything.
Von Hord looked at the princess and felt that something was wrong.
Normally, they would end up arguing whenever he tried to chide the princess.
What was wrong with her today? She didn’t even look disdainful.
The princess looked so down, it was as if she had suffered a great blow.
Von Hord thought about it for a moment before using a gentler voice to speak. “Your Highness, this is just a small matter, and you don’t have to be bothered by it. Are you all right?”
Anna hung her head and didn’t say anything.
The princess only started speaking when Von Hord was about to call the medical team over.
“Hord.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
“Have you ever lost someone very important to you before?”
“Yes, I did, but that was a very long time ago.”
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I’m suddenly afraid that I won’t see this person again.”
What was wrong with the princess? Why was she speaking so strangely?
Von Hord started getting anxious. He began to look carefully at the princess to see if he could spot anything amiss.
Suddenly…
“Your Highness, where’s your Life Exchange Contract?” exclaimed Von Hord loudly.
Princess Anna didn’t answer him.
Von Hord felt cold sweat drip down his back.
He collapsed onto the floor and said bitterly, “We’re doomed.”
Princess Anna looked out into the distance and quietly said, “It’ll be fine.”
She wasn’t sure if she was saying this to Gu Qingshan or to herself.
A layer of light surrounded Gu Qingshan as he continued to travel through the Space-time Turbulence.
Gu Qingshan touched the pendant around his neck, and many different emotions overwhelmed him.
There was a carving on the pendant. It was a carving of a very peaceful-looking old man, leaning against a long sickle and asleep on a rock with his hands supporting his cheeks.
This was a Life Exchange Contract, a token from the Grim Reaper.
If the wearer of this token was about to die, the Grim Reaper would extend his life.
But this nature defying sort of power wasn’t without its cost.
The Grim Reaper would take twice the life out of the person who had previously owned this token.
The Grim Reaper would never do anything at a loss.
Gu Qingshan held the pendant tightly.
This strange token existed thousands of years ago, and it had a legendary sort of existence.
He had never expected it to be in Anna’s hands.
And he definitely had not expected Anna to hang it around his neck.
This silly girl was really out of hand.
If something happened to him, then she was doomed.
Gu Qingshan laughed bitterly as his gaze became more and more determined.
In his previous life, Anna had saved him, and he had managed to become a Great Sword Immortal, while she had died in battle before he even had had the chance to save her.
In this life, he wasn’t going to let that happen!
A hole started glowing and expanding in front of him.
Gu Qingshan flew right in.
