Gu Qingshan smiled and said, “I’m so sorry, Aunt Su, it’s just that I suspect someone is using me to harm Su Xue’er.”
Aunt Su raised an eyebrow in surprise. The white-haired old man also kept away the kindly smile on his face.
“What do you mean?” whispered Aunt Su as she swiftly scanned the area.
“Because something very strange happened today,” replied Gu Qingshan.
“What happened?”
“Zhang Ye secretly added a drug to my soup, then kept insisting that I confess to Su Xue’er.”
Gu Qingshan noticed that the two bodyguards were listening intently to him, and even Su Xue’er was quietly listening too, so he continued to slowly explain the situation.
“If I refuse, then he might find some other method. So I went along with him and set up this whole thing to see what he was trying to do.”
“So you mean, you’ve taken that sort of drug?” asked Aunt Su as she narrowed her eyes.
“That’s right. And this too,” Gu Qingshan stretched his hand out.
There was a bloodstained black needle in his hand.
“What?!” Zhang Ye exclaimed in surprise.
He was sure that he had removed this needle, so when did Gu Qingshan take it from him?
Aunt Su’s expression really changed after looking at this needle.
She exchanged glances with the white-haired old man, and they both had stern expressions on their faces.
Ever since the Young Mistress of the Su family had gotten to know Gu Qingshan, the Su family had done a detailed background check on Gu Qingshan, and they knew his character well after interacting with him for more than two years.
So the two bodyguards weren’t very concerned when Gu Qingshan came close to Su Xue’er like he normally did.
But it turned out that he was problematic now.
“Are you feeling strange anywhere?” Su Xue’er walked over and asked in a gentle voice.
She looked calm, but Gu Qingshan could hear the anxiety in the way she spoke quickly.
“It’s probably an aphrodisiac of sorts,” replied Gu Qingshan calmly.
“What? Why is it that sort of drug?” Su Xue’er felt her face redden as she said this.
No matter how intelligent she was, Su Xue’er was a young lady after all.
Aunt Su pulled a dagger out, made a cut on Gu Qingshan’s hand, and then licked the blood from the cut.
“Yup.” Aunt Su clicked her tongue. “It is a sort of aphrodisiac all right, and it’s a pretty potent one.”
She looked at Gu Qingshan strangely. “Young man, you actually managed to endure this?”
Gu Qingshan replied, “I’m trying my best to endure it.”
He was using the Spirit Power in his Dantian to suppress the aphrodisiac with all his might.
Since there was no such thing as Spirit Power in the real world at this point in time, Gu Qingshan didn’t want to reveal his secret either.
Su Xu’er gasped and she tugged at Aunt Su’s hand as she said, “Aunt, please save him.”
Aunt Su took out a small bottle and poured out a white capsule. She held it out to Gu Qingshan. “Eat this.”
The way she looked at Gu Qingshan had become fairly gentle now.
She hadn’t expected this young chap to be so mature and detailed. He had done well this time.
Gu Qingshan took the capsule and swallowed it. Then, he said, “From the looks of it, he wanted me to embarrass Su Xue’er and myself in front of everybody.”
Many people started turning around to look at Zhang Ye.
Zhang Ye could see that he had failed and started to panic.
He suddenly turned and tried to escape.
The two bodyguards became even more furious when they saw this.
The truth of the matter was quite clear now.
Gu Qingshan was in close and frequent contact with their Young Mistress, so the two of them weren’t too wary of him.
At a formal occasion like this graduation ball, they were more cautious when it came to faces they did not recognize.
So if Gu Qingshan suddenly did anything out of line, they were likely to be unable to stop him in time.
If Gu Qingshan were to try to violate Young Mistress in front of everyone, then her reputation would be tarnished, and the two bodyguards would go all out to stop this from happening.
So if there were other accomplices hiding in this hall, they might take this opportunity to assassinate Young Mistress in the mess.
The white-haired old man moved swiftly and blocked Zhang Ye’s way.
“Come along, young chap. The world out there is tough, so why not fall into a dark and deep sleep?”
The old man chanted as he used his large and rough hands to hold onto Zhang Ye’s head and slowly closed his eyes.
A strange thing happened.
When the old man shut his eyes, Zhang Ye also shut his eyes.
The old man continued to chant in a strange tone, like the devil tempting an ordinary person, “Come now, come now, as long as you tell me your secret, I will grant you anything you wish.”
Zhang Ye had a foolish smile on his face as he murmured, “I’ll tell you. I’ll tell you right now.”
This strange sight caused the people watching to start murmuring among themselves.
Gu Qingshan was also surprised. “Is this a skill of a Chosen One?”
Su Xue’er stood next to him and whispered, “That’s right. Grandpa Li is a Chosen One who specializes in seeking the truth.”
Chosen Ones were those who had a special sort of skill. The type of skill was very mysterious and often slowly appeared as the person grew older.
The skill they had were skills that cultivators were never able to acquire, and it was impossible to predict who would have them, so it was like these people had been destined to have these skills.
That was why the people who had these skills were called Chosen Ones.
In the real world, humans were split into four categories of fighting abilities: Chosen Ones, Martial Artists, Elemental Art Experts, and Deity Descendants. Each category of people specialized in a different aspect.
Besides these categories, there were also mechas and intergalactic battleships that were powerful fighting machines and were weapons of war that could cause major damage and fatalities.
Since Su Xue’er confirmed that the old man was a Chosen One, then the skill he had was a sort of hypnosis.
Everyone was focused on what the old man was doing, so Su Xue’er dropped her voice to a low whisper. “Thanks for today.”
“No need,” replied Gu Qingshan.
“I did it for myself too. If I did anything to you in a place like this, I’d meet with a tragic end.”
What he said was the truth, and that was what had happened to him in his previous life.
Su Xue’er shook her head and said, “Qingshan, reputation is very important to a girl. I still have to thank you for protecting it.”
“Also, if anything happens to you from now on, I will do my best to protect you too.”
Gu Qingshan only listened and didn’t say anything.
There were some things that didn’t need to be explained.
What he was interested in right now was why Zhang Ye did what he did.
Gu Qingshan was quietly thinking about this but didn’t notice the pretty girl next to him secretly glancing at him from the side.
After a few seconds, Su Xue’er looked away, and there was a strange feeling in her heart.
She felt that there was something different about Gu Qingshan today.
He was being too calm.
