Chapter 19: Vanessa’s Abnormality

As they climbed down the spiral staircase, the two of them got closer and closer to the Goblin temple.
Fortunately, all the Goblins’ attention was focused on the white-robed Goblin in front of the temple, so they did not notice the existence of the two of them.
Vanessa seemed to have used a mysterious breathing technique to completely hold her breath. Even Lind, who was so close, could not feel her breathing or footsteps. She hid herself in the shadows formed by the surrounding light. The black robe and black veil almost blended into the shadows, making it impossible for anyone to notice her existence.
At this moment, Lind felt that even if Vanessa was alone, she had a way to sneak to the Goblin King and complete the assassination mission.
Lind couldn’t completely hide his presence. He could only follow Vanessa carefully to avoid waking up the Goblins in front of him.
The closer the two of them got to the white-robed Goblin, the stronger the bewitching feeling from the white-robed Goblin became. It made people want to kneel in front of the temple.
Lind had already made up his mind. After this mission, he would definitely go back and increase his mental strength.
On one hand, it could increase the power of his incantation, allowing him to still have a strong ability to protect himself without using Blood Magic. On the other hand, if he encountered this white-robed Goblin again, he would have a countermeasure.
Fortunately, the white-robed Goblin’s mental attack enveloped the entire fourth underground floor and was not targeted at Lind.
Lind was not strongly affected.
But Lind looked back at Vanessa and saw that her eyes were lost. She was staring straight at the temple in front of her. She raised her foot as if she was going to move towards the temple.
Seeing this, Lind quickly reached out and pulled Vanessa back.
Vanessa finally snapped out of her daze and broke out in a cold sweat.
“If you can’t withstand this kind of mental attack, let’s go back. It’s dangerous to continue,” Lind said.
But Vanessa shook her head. Her face was hidden beneath the black veil, and Lind couldn’t see her expression.
Lind saw her put a finger to her mouth, then open her mouth and bite down hard.
In the next second, Vanessa’s brows furrowed. The intense pain made her close her eyes involuntarily. Blood trickled down her fingers. With the help of this wave of pain, she successfully broke free from the mental influence of the white-robed Goblin.
Her eyes quickly returned to normal. She looked at Lind and said, “Okay, we can move on.”
Lind was stunned for a moment before asking, “Why are you so insistent on killing the Goblin King?”
At this point, Lind would be a little stupid if he didn’t realize that something was wrong with Vanessa.
Vanessa was definitely not going to kill the Goblin King just for the mission.
If it was just to complete a mission, there was no need to force herself to this extent.
Even though she knew that there was danger ahead and that things were developing beyond her control, Vanessa still wanted to go deeper into the Goblin Cave.
It was obvious that she had other intentions!
Vanessa’s expression changed at Lind’s question.
She said, “Don’t ask what you shouldn’t ask. I won’t give you less reward this time. If you want the money, I can give it all to you.”
Lind’s eyes narrowed. He said to Vanessa, “As a companion on this mission together, I have a right to know the truth of the matter. Otherwise, I’ll withdraw from this mission.”
Hearing that Vanessa didn’t even want the bounty, Lind was even more convinced of his thoughts.
Vanessa definitely did not come to the Goblin Cave after receiving the mission. Instead, she had long been plotting against the Goblin Cave.
The Adventurer’s Guild’s mission was just to hide her true intentions.
Hearing Lind’s words, Vanessa sighed and said, “If you want to quit, I won’t stop you. But I have to continue moving forward. If you think it’s dangerous, you can turn around and leave now.”
Lind didn’t waste any time. He turned around and left.
This woman had been lying to him from the beginning.
Lind wanted to level up his Adventurer’s Badge, but there was no need to involve himself in unknown risks. He still had more ways to level up, so there was no need to take this risk.
But the moment Lind turned around, a Goblin appeared in front of him.
Just as Lind and Vanessa were arguing, a Goblin came around the corner.
This Goblin was very similar to the Goblins in front of the temple in the square below.
It was short and wore a gray hemp robe. It was thin.
It looked at Lind and Vanessa with a hint of panic in its eyes.
Lind looked embarrassed. He’d been arguing with Vanessa, and neither of them had noticed the goblin approaching from behind.
In the end, the two of them bumped into this Goblin.
Lind looked at the goblin, spread his hands, and said to it, “Would you believe me if I said that I came in by accident?”
The Goblin clearly didn’t understand Lind. It opened its mouth as if to scream.
Vanessa reacted quickly. She grabbed the knife from her waist and threw it at the Goblin’s head.
However, the Goblin let out a sharp cry.
Although the cry lasted less than a second, its head was pierced by Vanessa’s flying knife.
However, the cry still attracted the Goblins in front of the temple.
The goblin’s eyes turned white. It staggered and fell from the edge of the spiral staircase.
The Goblins in front of the temple were attracted by the cry and looked in the direction of the two of them.
They saw the Goblin fall down the spiral staircase with a sharp knife sticking out of his head.
They immediately understood what was going on.
Enemy attack!
The white-robed Goblin picked up his staff and struck a crystal beside the temple.
A loud bang resounded throughout the entire underground cave.
Then the entire cavern began to shake. Behind him, Lind heard a thunderous boom.
It sounded like steel armor colliding.
Lind thought of the Goblins in standard armor. They were gathering in the direction of him and Vanessa.
“Well, now, it looks like neither of us is getting out. Honorable Mr. Mage, would you please use your clever brain to tell me what we should do now?”
Vanessa looked at Lind with what seemed to be mockery in her eyes.
As Lind looked at Vanessa, his eyes were gradually filled with killing intent.
At this point, he had no choice but to use Blood Magic to force his way out.
