Chapter 246 – The Turtle Who Doesn’t Follow the Rules
“Puaah! S-S-Sol thought she was g-going to die!” (Sol)
“Quiet, Sol. He’ll find us.” (Bouchi)
“Ah, Sol is sorry!” (Sol)
Even though we were some distance away, there was still a small chance of being discovered. After all, we were up against an existence that defied common sense.
I peeked through a crack in the ice and looked at Galafegorn floating in the sea. I could see that it still hadn’t given up on searching for us, as its eyes were continuously moving around.
“Damn it. If he’s really so lazy, why doesn’t he just give up already?” (Bouchi)
“We attacked him, so he must think that we are the enemy. Galafegorn is said not to take hostile action of its own accord, but once provoked it will not show any mercy. His attack power is top class, too.” (Kaza)
That small iceberg had been practically vaporized all at once. The power of that attack was more than enough to support Kaza’s words.
If attacks like that were fired off randomly at will, the entire map would have to be rewritten. It was a good thing we weren’t near any cities.
“Milord, what shall we do? Oremia is still inside of his shell.” (Shiki)
“…Come to think of it, why is Oremia even inside of his shell? Could it be that he…?” (Bouchi)
“Belzedor certainly did say that he had quite a wild temperament.” (Shiki)
“…Maybe he picked a fight and the tables had ended up turning on him?” (Bouchi)
Although they were both S-Rank creatures, Oremia was the half-body of Belzedor. The power he had was also halved. There was no way he would be able to beat Galafegorn, who was a complete form in and of himself.
“If that’s what happened, he’s an idiot… A serious, downright idiot. I kind of want to just leave him here now…” (Bouchi)
It was pretty easy to tell if you could win or not without even taking the opponent on directly. Challenging such an opponent regardless of all of that was just foolish. He should have at least fused with Belzedor first before picking a fight like this.
But if I just left Oremia here, Belzedor’s encroachment wouldn’t stop.
“…If him recklessly picking a fight is really the cause of all of this, I’m seriously gonna have to punch Oremia once.” (Bouchi)
“Then milord…” (Shiki)
“Yeah, we can’t just run away. Fortunately, our goal is just to rescue Oremia, not defeat Galafegorn. If getting him out of the iceberg is all we have to do, we might be able to manage.” (Bouchi)
“Then what should we do, Master? If we take it head on, that scary light will chase us again.” (Sol)
Sol was teary-eyed, as if that had been a traumatic experience for her.
“Luckily he hasn’t found us yet, so we can just wrap around and sneak into the iceberg.” (Bouchi)
His body was simply too large. It would take time for him to look behind him, and if we fine-tuned our direction as we approached, we would probably be fine.
“Alright. Then let’s do this quietly.” (Bouchi)
We approached Galafegorn underwater, and once we were behind him we stealthily moved forward on the [Jet Book], gliding right above the surface of the water.
The distance was getting shorter and shorter. We were almost at the iceberg.
…Good, just stay like that.
Galafegorn was most likely still checking the area in front of it. We needed to act quickly before it turned around.
But right at that moment—the surface of the sea suddenly rose right before our eyes.
W-What is it this time?!
I almost cried out in shock, but I desperately swallowed my words.
What emerged from the rising sea was the head of Galafegorn.
“…Wha?” (Bouchi)
It wasn’t just me. Sol and the others were all dumbfounded as they looked square into Galafegorn’s piercing eyes.
At that very moment, the iceberg emitted another flash of light.
“R-Retreaaaat!” (Bouchi)
We immediately dove back underwater. The flash of light was right on our heels, directly on the verge of swallowing us up. While we were diving down as quickly as possible, I decided to look above me.
I then witnessed Galafegorn retract his head, tail, and limbs and, much to my surprise, stick his head out of his right leg socket, from where he began to glare directly at us.
Whoa, whoa, don’t tell me he can just move his body parts around at will…!?
That must mean that there was a large space inside of his shell and that he could switch his body parts around in his shell at will. So once he retracted his extremities, he could stick his face out through the tail or leg part of his shell.
That’s totally against the rules! Why can’t it just act like a regular turtle?!
I seriously thought my heart would stop. If I had been even a few tenths of a second slower in my judgment, we would have all turned to dust by now.
Damn it… He has his eyes right on us.
I was trying to hide underwater to regain our bearings, but Galafegorn was staring at us from the hole in his shell near the surface of the water.
But it was still fortunate that he was staying put and not coming after us.
Or so I’d thought. Sure enough, an S-Rank monster wouldn’t be so easy.
Galafegorn suddenly opened his mouth wide, and countless things shot out of his mouth and rushed towards us at a terrifying speed.
What are those things?
I strained my eyes and looked closer, and they seemed to be small turtles. Well, they were only small compared to Galafegorn.
Each one was probably around half as tall as me, and they were shooting towards us like bullets.
“Milord, those turtles are Killer Turtles, a type of B-Rank monster.” (Shiki)
“B-Rank… are they strong?” (Bouchi)
“We would not lose to them on land, but underwater, they have an advantage over us. Besides, they have the advantage in numbers. They are also known as man-eater turtles and are far more terrifying creatures than sharks.” (Shiki)
I see. In other words, it would definitely be ‘The End’ if we were caught.
Well, I guess we have no choice but to resurface for now!
Besides, at this rate, Sol would run out of breath again.
While shaking off the pursuing Killer Turtles, we broke out of the water a considerable distance away from Galafegorn.
But at that moment, another flash of light came from Galafegorn’s direction.
