Chapter 20: A Ferocious and Rabid Wild Boar
She had only come for a walk and met Du Aiqing, who was on his way down, by chance. How could she take his stuff?
Du Aiqing knew that she was declining not out of politeness, but he really wanted to give it to her anyway. “Keep it.”
He then looked at the little wolf cub who was holding Gu Jin’s hand tightly. “Give this boy a warm one. It’s so rare to see him this clean.”
Was that not the case? An Mingji was a famously dirty child in the village.
He was as ferocious as a wolf cub and dirty from top to bottom. Not to mention, he only had sparse meals.
After his father’s death and his mother’s getaway, his heartless uncle occupied his house the moment his grandmother passed away. He did not leave a place for the child to stay because he chased the boy out of the house.
Everyone took pity on him, but at that age, no one wanted to take him in. After all, it was not a joke to say that raising a child was expensive.
Gu Jin gazed at An Mingji by her side and showed a bit of hesitation at Du Aiqing’s words.
The boy was indeed too thin and really in need of catching up on his nutrition.
But she could not just take someone’s item for nothing.
Just as Gu Jin hesitated, An Mingji suddenly held her hand firmly.
“Ah… Sister Jin!”
An Mingji stared at a certain location, and his voice had an unconscious trembling to it.
Even Du Aiqing, who was standing there and facing them, seemed to sense danger. He immediately looked back at the dense trees of Blackbird Mountain.
He heard a slight rustling; it was the sound of collision and shaking leaves.
Then, a shrill call rang out.
Du Aiqing heard the furious call, and he tensed up as his eyes narrowed rapidly.
He could tell what animal that sound belonged to; it was a wild boar!
The culprit who had caused his brother to suffer fatal wounds before dying in pain—a wild boar!
“Go! Get out of here!”
Du Aiqing took a wooden stick with a sharp bayonet tied to it from his back and stared in the direction of the boar’s cry, slowly stepping back.
Behind him, Gu Jin and An Mingji held their hands tightly. They, too, had sensed danger.
Hearing Du Aiqing asking them to leave, Gu Jin did not hesitate as she pulled An Mingji’s hand and turned to leave.
The body beside her was just too weak and thin. She could not let him get hurt again.
Unfortunately, it was too late!
Just as Gu Jin was about to turn to leave, the wild boar had appeared and seen the three of them.
It looked at the roe deer it had wounded on the ground, and after a moment, charged toward Du Aiqing, Gu Jin, and An Mingji.
The sharp tusks were enough to make one fearful.
Du Aiqing looked at the charging wild boar, and it was too late to dodge, so he held and waved the sharp weapon in his hand at it.
The wild boar was very cunning. It turned to Gu Jin, as well as An Mingji, who were about to leave, and charged at them instead.
“Ah Jin! Run!” Du Aiqing roared.
Gu Jin felt a prickly torrent behind her, and the sense of danger made her scalp numb.
The moment the boar attacked her, she quickly picked the boy up and ran toward the open door on the side.
The dodge allowed her to avoid the wild boar’s deadly attack.
Seeing that the two were all right, Du Aiqing heaved a sigh of relief. He then walked up to the two young ones and stood before them. They were facing a ferocious and rabid wild boar.
When its attack was avoided once again, the wild boar let out a furious cry.
It stared at Du Aiqing, Gu Jin, and An Mingji as it prepared for its next round of attack.
“I will deal with it in a bit. You two grab the chance to run when you see one. Don’t look back!”
Du Aiqing could not watch the wild boar hurt anyone.
