Chapter 25: This Girl Has Changed, and He Can No longer Understand Her
Gu Jin put An Mingji down to pick up the dead junglefowl and rabbit from the ground.
An Mingji noticed this and bent down. “Let me help you, Sister Jin!”
He reached down to grab the wild rabbit and two junglefowl on the ground.
Gu Jin carried the deer with both hands, her lips curling up as she looked at An Mingji. “Okay.”
The two then caught up with the father and son as well as Du Aiqing.
The villagers of Blackmount Village were coming out for a stroll after breakfast.
Some villagers saw them carrying a huge wild boar and were amazed.
They immediately went around telling everyone about it, ready to join the fun at Gus’ house.
The old man, Chen Hong, and Gu Minmin never returned to the kitchen to eat. Instead, they had been waiting at the doorway since Gu Jin and the others left.
Seeing the father and son return with a wild boar, as well as a group of villagers following them from behind, Chen Hong’s eye reddened—not because she was excited but because she was angry.
In her mind, those tailing villagers were there to grab the meat from her.
She opened the main door and dashed toward her husband and son.
“This wild boar is huge. Carry it back home and clear out a space in the courtyard.”
Chen Hong grinned from ear to ear upon seeing the massive wild boar.
Likewise, Gu Dechang had a constant smile on his face. He nodded at his wife as he carried the wild boar into the backyard.
Those villagers wanted to follow suit, but Chen Hong stopped them outside the door.
“What do you mean, Chen Hong?” a chubby woman with desire written all over her face complained.
“Nothing. It’s just not convenient for us today.”
Chen Hong looked at the faces outside, then closed the door and snapped on the latch without hesitation. She was adamant about not letting anyone in.
“Petty woman!”
Chen Hong ignored the voice outside.
The wild boar in the background had fully occupied her heart and mind.
Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh!
With so much wild boar meat, they wondered how long it would take for them to finish it all.
Earlier, the old man had heard that his granddaughter had hunted a wild boar, but he never expected it to be so huge. Seeing the wild boar that was the size of a small hill in his backyard, the old man’s expression changed.
He glanced at Gu Jin, who appeared calm. Her expression gave zero indication of her emotion.
The old man felt that this girl had changed so much that he could no longer understand her, even though he had never paid much attention to her in the past. All he knew about her was that she was quiet. She had always kept her head low and been unable to fit in with the family.
However, things had changed quite a lot recently. He just did not know when the change had started exactly.
The old man glanced at Gu Jin, who was now more pleasing to the eyes as she had grown into a beautiful girl. “Your aunt has boiled a few eggs in the kitchen. Bring the child in to eat.”
Gu Jin was feeling a little hungry now. She looked up at her grandfather and nodded. “Okay.”
She left Du Aiqing and the Gu Family to sort out how to split the wild boar. She had said what she needed to say, and they would be the ones to sort out the rest. So, she brought An Mingji into the kitchen.
There were five boiled eggs in the kitchen. Gu Jin did not expect her aunt to be so generous this time. Had it been in the past, she would have been very reluctant.
Gu Jin scooped the eggs out, then cast her eyes on the watery corn porridge in the pot.
She did not mind it and poured themselves two bowls of porridge. Taking the wheat buns and putting them into a round basket, she walked toward An Mingji, who was sitting on a stool at the table.
She took three eggs out of the basket and placed them in front of An Mingji.
