Chapter 32: She Needs a Better Springboard
“Year Six!” An Mingji said loudly.
He was emotional, and his body was trembling.
“I can go back to school? Really, Sister Jin?”
His eyes welled up, but he did not cry. It was Gu Jin’s first time seeing him so emotional ever since she was reborn.
She reached out to touch the corner of his eye. “Of course. I promise you that. You will go to elementary school, then middle and high school before entering university.”
An Mingji could not hold back his tears anymore, and they rolled down his bruised cheeks.
Not wanting anyone to see him cry, he dived into Gu Jin’s arms. His body trembled as he wept in silence.
He was not even this emotional when Gu Jin adopted him. That was because he had left a backdoor for himself at that time. He told himself to not overly depend on others just in case he was abandoned again.
But now, Gu Jin’s plan and her promise had finally dismantled his psychological defense.
Gu Jin hugged him and gently patted him on the back. “Once we’re in Wanhai City, I’ll send you to school and make sure that you go all the way up to university as long as you study hard,” she whispered.
“Thank you, Sister Jin…”
An Mingji choked again.
Still holding him in her arms, Gu Jin patted him on the back. An Mingji fell asleep after a while, probably from her gentle patting.
The child’s thick eyelids flickered from time to time; he was not sleeping really well.
Gu Jin continued to pat him on the back until he was sound asleep. Only then did she place him on the bed and pull the only blanket in the room over him. Feeling sorry for him, she wiped the tears from his eyes.
However, one thing she did not tell An Mingji was the astronomical cost of studying in Wanhai City.
Going to a high school in Wanhai City at her own expense was hard enough, more so because she needed to have connections to do that. She needed a large sum of money to grease someone’s palm.
The thing was, she was penniless now. She needed money badly to send An Mingji to school in the city and cover their living expenses.
Even so, Gu Jin still insisted on pursuing an education in Wanhai City, where the schools were better and the standard of education was higher. She needed a better springboard for a better life, and she also wanted to confront the Zhen Family in the capital city.
Gu Jin believed that someone from the Zhen Family would come again, and she did not want to leave with them as she had done in her past life.
She needed to strengthen her standing by making a lot of money. She did not want to become a pawn for others again.
The stock market in Shen City was moving to a crucial point. As long as she could seize the opportunity, she could make a fortune.
Not forgetting, in the 90s, the stock market in Wanhai City had created countless millionaires. Since she had been reborn into this era, there was no way she was going to let the opportunity slip away.
That being said, she still needed money for rolling capital.
Gu Jin pulled the blanket over An Mingji tighter before she left the room.
She was going to find the money. In this great era with countless opportunities, she was confident about accumulating the capital she needed. She just had to be willing to take the risk to seize the opportunity.
More villagers had come into the courtyard. Among them were many strangers.
Gu Jin knew that the villagers were there to buy meat.
She walked up to her uncle and glanced at the wild boar meat with bloodstains still on them. “Could you give me the head, intestines, and liver, Uncle?”
“What do you want them for? I’ll cut a better chunk of meat for you if you want.”
Chen Hong was collecting money and did not even look up at her.
“I just need them to make a stewed dish,” Gu Jin said.
