Chapter 38: New Helpers, Gu Jiajie and Liu Pingyuan
The county was not as she had described to her grandfather, uncle, and aunt, where she could easily set up stalls.
If she wanted to sell her braised meat, she had to open a stall in the black market, and it was only open from midnight to the break of dawn.
When Gu Jiajie backed her up earlier, Gu Jin immediately knew that her cousin brother must have known all of this.
So, at that moment, Gu Jin did not hide anything as she looked at Gu Jiajie and casually said, “It takes about two hours to walk to the county. I’ll leave at eleven o’clock. There’s a bus in the morning, and I can have breakfast in the county before I come back.”
Gu Jiajie frowned slightly and glanced at the basin full of braised wild boar head. He could also see about forty pounds of braised offal cooking in the pot.
“Xiao Jin, it’ll be too heavy for you to deal with this alone. How about I give you a hand? I’ll borrow a bike as well, which will save you time and effort…”
Gu Jin immediately replied just as his voice trailed off. “All right, this couldn’t be better!”
She had been having the same idea from the beginning. If her cousin brother accepted the proposition, it would be great for her since she would gain a helper.
So when she heard Gu Jiajie’s words, she agreed straight away.
However, the bike came as a surprise. If there was a bike, it would definitely save her time and effort.
Gu Jiajie tried to take advantage of the situation, though. “What if we add another person into the gang? I’ll get two bikes and take more pork to the black market?”
Gu Jin added firewood to the stove and stared at Gu Jiajie with a half-smile.
The latter felt a little embarrassed and touched the tip of his nose, not daring to look Gu Jin in the eye.
“Sure, we can make more money this way.”
Gu Jin really started to look at this cousin brother of hers in a different light now.
In her past life, her cousin brother had been a hoodlum, and everyone in the village had been afraid of him, knowing that he fought like a total beast. It never occurred to her that he would have a pretty cunning mind.
“Sure! I’ll look for someone now and borrow a bike!”
Upon hearing his cousin sister’s response, he slapped his thigh and immediately turned to leave the kitchen.
Looking at his departing silhouette, Gu Jin grinned.
Actually, she did not care if there were more people involved. She only wanted to use the black market to make some money, then use the money as her funds to buy shares.
Now that she was two years older in the official records and was an eighteen-year-old adult, she could open an account to subscribe to shares.
To seize the opportunity, she needed to use the time she had to make more money. Having more helpers meant that she would make more money faster.
While all of the villagers in Blackmountain Village were asleep, two figures slowly emerged from the east, their shadows closing in very quickly. Upon a closer look, it was two people riding bicycles.
They were Gu Jiajie and his best buddy, Liu Pingyuan.
The two of them stopped their bikes at the door of the Gu residence.
Gu Jiajie whispered, “Yuanzi, push the bike into the yard, gently.”
“Okay.”
Liu Pingyuan followed Gu Jiajie from behind, his voice reminiscent of a fly.
Gu Jin had already put the cooked braised meat into a wooden barrel and was cutting raw boar meat in the yard.
When she heard movement from the door and two mosquito-like whispers, she shook her head and laughed as she took her flashlight to illuminate them.
The light from the flashlight landed on both Gu Jiajie, as well as Liu Pingyuan, and the two froze in shock.
“Come here quickly and put the pork on the bike,” Gu Jin urged in a low voice.
Upon hearing her voice, Gu Jiajie breathed easy. “Xiao Jin, you scared me!”
He grumbled as he pushed the bicycle toward the wooden board that was filled with wild boar meat.
