Chapter 39: Exploring the Black Market for the First Time
Following the flashlight, Liu Pingyuan finally saw Gu Jin’s real look and the wild boar meat before her. His heart finally sank into his stomach.
Truthfully, when Jiajie said that his cousin sister wanted to sell something in the county’s black market, Liu Pingyuan thought that he was joking.
However, they were all from the same village, and he also knew that the Gu Family had caught a wild boar. Besides, his buddy would not screw him over, so that was why he agreed to come with his bicycle in the middle of the night.
Gu Jiajie parked the bicycle, and with Liu Pingyuan, carried the large piece of wild boar meat, which weight more than a hundred pounds, up onto the beam at the center of the bicycle.
Gu Jin stored a wooden weighing scale and knife in a bag before she handed it to Gu Jiajie.
“There’s some more braised offal in the kitchen. Help me take it out.”
“Coming!”
Gu Jiajie lowered his volume and hid the excitement in his voice as he followed Gu Jin into the kitchen.
All of the braised offals were filled inside a wooden barrel, and within the barrel was also a large basin with braised wild boar head.
The two of them took out the braised offals and tied them to Liu Pingyuan’s bicycle with a rope.
Once all of that was done, Liu Pingyuan asked while he trembled, “Shall we go now?”
He was just too excited. He had wanted to do this long ago, so now that he had the chance, how could he not be excited?
“Wait a minute, I need to go back to the house,” Gu Jin said in a low voice.
She walked into the second room on the right and gently pushed the door open. She then pressed the button on the flashlight and only allowed a little light to leak out, enough for her to see the boy sleeping on the bed.
Gu Jin walked to the bed and saw An Mingji sleeping soundly. The young boy was deep in sleep as he hugged his quilt.
Seeing this, a gentle look filled her eyes as she climbed over the bed and pulled a floral cloth bag from under the mattress.
By the time Gu Jin came back out, Gu Jiajie and Liu Pingyuan had already pushed the bicycles away. They were waiting for her outside.
Seeing her, Gu Jiajie said, “Xiao Jin, get on my bike.”
With a wooden barrel tied to the back of Liu Pingyuan’s bicycle, Gu Jin could not fit in the seat even if she wanted to sit there.
She sat in the back seat of Gu Jiajie’s bicycle and clutched the floral cloth bag in her arms.
“Sit tight, we’re leaving!” Gu Jiajie said in a hushed voice.
Then, the two bicycles quickly left the Gu Family house.
Blackmountain Village was not too far away from the county, about ten kilometers away. If it took three hours on foot, then it only took an hour to get there by bicycle.
At about eleven o’clock, Gu Jiajie and Liu Pingyuan arrived in the county’s black market.
This was not peak time, and there were few people in the black market.
Gu Jin jumped off the bicycle and took out a towel from the floral cloth bag to wrap around her face, making it impossible for anyone to see her true face.
After that, she pulled out two pieces of dark cloth from the bag and handed them to Gu Jiajie as well as Liu Pingyuan. “Cover your face. Don’t let anyone recognize you.”
“You have always been the thoughtful one, Xiao Jin!”
Gu Jiajie took one of the cloths and wrapped it around his face, revealing only a pair of eyes.
Liu Pingyuan looked at Gu Jin and raised his eyebrows as he took the last piece of fabric from her hands.
Gu Jin looked at the remote street before her and clutched the floral bag in her hand. At the same time, she turned around and said to the two teenagers behind her, “I’ll go around first. Wait here.”
“I’ll go with you!”
Gu Jiajie was worried about her walking alone.
“No, I’ll be back soon.”
Once Gu Jin said this, she walked into the distance alone and ventured deep into the streets.
Half an hour later, Gu Jiajie still saw no signs of his cousin coming back, and he began to worry.
