Becoming A Monk In Tokyo - Chapter 46
Chapter 46: The Monster In The Police Station
If he invited Asada Senna to participate in the exorcism, it went without saying that he would be leading the video this time.
After all, it was his job. However, if he became the leading actor, it would no longer be suitable to use the same title anymore.
Asada Senna said, “Well, Baishi-san, here is my plan. If you invite me for a video shooting, I’ll shoot, record, and make a new series featuring you as a monk who goes around Tokyo to ward off evil! Let’s call it “The Boring Exorcism Life of a Monk”. That fine?”
Baishi Shū fell silent when he saw the message. He was worried that it would lead to copyright issues. However, when he gave it another thought, he realized he was worrying too much. They were now in 2016. As such, he was certain that the series “Zhu Yidan’s Boring Life” had not been shot yet, so nobody would send him to Africa now.
Therefore, he replied, “Sounds good to me.”
Apparently, she had been thinking about this plan for several days already. Delighted, Asada Senna continued, “Since you will be the leading actor and the video is all about the process of you exorcising an evil spirit, you will get 70% of the profit generated by this series. As for me, I will handle all the post-production work, such as editing, publicity, and uploading the video. In return, I will take 30% of the profit. Is that fine with you?”
“Yeah, that’s fine,” Baishi Shū replied.
There was no way he would reject such a good offer. He did not have to do anything and he would get the pay and popularity he deserved. According to Asada Senna’s plan, she would handle most of the work, while he just had to accept requests and exorcise evil spirits like he usually did.
‘Miko Asada must be a philanthropist,’ he thought.
“But then again, how much yen is it if I get 70% of the profit?” Piqued by his curiosity, he asked Asada Senna, “Miko Asada, how much money did you make from your last video?”
“Oh, about 5 million yen.”
Crack!
Baishi Shū lost control of his strength for a moment and the phone that had been accompanying him for such a long time was reduced to a piece of wasted metal. Looking at his phone, Baishi Shū fell silent again.
“Shinsei, try not to play with your phone before you get used to your power,” the old abbot’s voice rang out.
“Yes, I understand, abbot” Baishi Shū nodded.
He closed his eyes and chanted the Rebirth Mantra upon his phone. At the same time, Asada Senna, who was oblivious to the fate of Baishi Shu’s phone, was bubbling over with enthusiasm as she continued to pour out her ideas.
Suddenly, she had a hunch. To justify her instinct, she typed, “Baishi-san?”
“Baishi-san, are you still there?
Hello? Baishi-san? Did your class start already?”
‘Hmph, stupid monk.’
…
Tokyo, Nakano City’s police station.
“Yo, Aoki! You don’t look very good. Have you been on the night shift lately?” A middle-aged, uniformed man greeted.
Aoki Yano waved his hand in response.
“Nope. I haven’t been on the night shift lately. It is just… I don’t know how to explain it, but all I can say is that it is a very special encounter.”
Aoki Yano’s countenance was pale. There were two heavy bags underneath his eyes and he looked like he was seriously deprived of sleep. This was all due to the clairvoyance talisman given to him by the powerful Master Baishi. He had opened the gate to a new world for him, and up till now, the gate remained open.
The effect of the clairvoyance talisman had not been lifted yet. He could still clearly see the strands of yin and yang energy in the air. Even worse, sometimes he could see the ghosts that wandered the streets.
Just how scary was Master Baishu’s spiritual power?!
Aoki Yani clearly remembered that the clairvoyance talisman the Seikai level Shinto priest gave him only lasted 10 minutes.
How long had it been since he used the clairvoyance talisman crafted by Master Baishi? Forty hours? Aoki Yani didn’t know.
Having a pair of astral eyes as a normal human being was not necessarily a good thing. They didn’t have special power and every ghost or spirit they saw was actually chipping away at their yang energy. They would appear to be very tired, just like Aoki Yano.
“But the effect of Master Baishi’s clairvoyance talisman is really good. The reason I’m so tired is that the yin energy in my house is too dense. Since I can see yin and yang energy now, I should take this opportunity to find a new house, one that’s more suitable…” Aoki Yano rubbed his temples as he walked forward.
He was the inspector from Shibuya and he made a trip to the police station in Nakano City because there was a case he needed to solve.
It was pretty common. Whenever a criminal case happened, it tended to be complicated and often involved more than one area. Hence, these inspectors in Tokyo were very familiar with the drill and did not feel weird seeing Aoki Yano here.
When he walked by an interrogation room, Aoki Yano’s heart suddenly did a somersault. He saw a strand of weird energy, in polychromatic colors, coming from the interrogation room next to him.
Although he did not know what that energy was, he knew it was the same as the energy the spider yokai released that day.
‘Why would this kind of energy appear in Nakano City’s police station?’
Piqued by his curiosity, Aoki Yano turned to the inspector beside him and asked, “Takeru, who is inside this room?”
“Oh, it’s a girl named Morishita Akiko,” Inspector Takeru replied. “Her parents and little brother have gone missing. It’s her parents’ companies and school that made the police report. When we arrived at her house, we couldn’t find anything and found her reading a book inside her room. However, there’s something wrong with her brain. She kept saying that her parents and little brother didn’t go missing. She said they still went to work and school two days ago, but it was the weekend two days ago! There was no school and the company was closed! After we ran her profile, we noticed that her parents treated her badly. Maybe they were the kind of people who only valued their son…”
Aoki Yano did not know what Inspector Takeru was saying as he could only feel cold creeping down his spine. He stood before the door for a long while, and just as Inspector Takeru was wondering what was wrong with him, the door opened from inside.
A female inspector walked out of the interrogation room. When she saw Aoki Yano and Inspector Takeru standing in front of the door, she asked, “Aoki, Takeru, what are you two doing here?”
“I don’t know but Aoki seems a little weird…”
Inspector Takeru scratched his head and took a peek inside. The girl was still sitting on the chair. She had a cute face and a scrawny frame. She was dressed in a blue shirt and he could vaguely see scars and marks on her neck.
The girl was apparently abused by her parents, which was very common in Japan. As long as nothing went awry and the kid refused to say anything, the teacher rarely took action. Likewise, the police would not know anything as well.
At this moment, Aoki Yano’s heart almost stopped beating. In his eyes, it was not a girl inside the interrogation room, but a grotesque and massive monster. What’s more, nobody could see the monster aside from him. All they saw was just a little girl.
“I, I am fine,” Aoki Yano replied fretfully.
Suddenly, the monster turned around and threw a longside glance at him. Gooseflesh instantly erupted across his skin and cold sweat soaked his back.
“I, I, I, I need to go to the bathroom!” He was running before he even finished speaking.
“Hold on… Aoki!”
“The toilet is not over there!”
The female inspector and Inspector Takeru looked at Aoki Yano’s back in confusion. They did not know what had gotten into his brain today.
Aoki Yano didn’t know where he was running to. Like a headless chicken, he stormed out of the police station and ran into the sun.
Although the heat from the winter sun could not warm him up, it could at least calm him down. Looking at the pedestrians and vehicles, his galloping heart finally slowed down.
Taking a few deep breaths, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
“Hello, are you Master Baishi? Oh, you are the abbot of Reimei Temple? Request? Oh yes, yes, a request! What? My name? Oh, silly me. My name is Aoki Yano and I’m an inspector from Shibuya’s police station. I accompanied Master Baishi while he exorcised a yokai last Saturday… I am in Nakano City’s police station right now. I hope Master Baishi can come over here as soon as possible. I… I… I think I just saw a yokai!”
