Chapter 56: Then Nobody Would Know I Am The One Lead Him Here

A shadow was blitzing across the city under the moonlight. Using the Divine Eye to trace the four-faced yokai, Baishi Shū realized that their base was located in Setagaya City.

He never expected that they would be audacious enough to establish their base in a residential area. What’s more, they also exhibited complex behavior that could only be seen in human beings. They were busying themselves with tablets, some of them watching anime, while others were playing computer games.

‘I guess… even yokai aren’t able to escape being enslaved by human technology?’ Baishi Shū lamented.

However, the shock did not stay long, soon regaining his vigilance. He knew that although they looked harmless, behaving more like a group of shut-ins rather than a bunch of terrifying monsters, they were a group of sadistic creatures that would slaughter humans without batting an eye.

Baishi Shū could discern through his Divine Eye that the brew inside Big Boss’s cup was not a carbonated drink but some kind of concoction consisting of yin energy. For yokai, it was the most wonderful and delicious drink in the world, but for human beings, it was poison.

The bucket of meat next to it was ordinary fried chicken. Then, in the basement, he saw human bones, stacked in piles so high that they touched the ceiling. They must have created the soul orb here.

It was a hellish scene, and Baishi Shū could see nothing but sin. Anger was brewing inside of him, but he was here to put an end to this.

Be that as it may, he could not allow his anger to get hold of him. He did not rush in headfirst but scanned through the building and the distribution of the members inside.

To his surprise, there were five yokai and one evil spirit.

Initially, he was quite baffled to see that there was an evil spirit amongst the group of yokai. However, when he thought of the Hare-no-yurei that he exorcised at Kondo Private Junior High School and when he saw the true form of their boss, he understood everything.

The true form of the boss of this organization was not a human being, but a massive tiger. It appeared to him that the Hare-no-yurei, as well as the evil spirit inside the house, acted like the pawn of the tiger yokai in committing crimes.

After that, he took a good look at their yokai power. He realized that other than their boss, the remaining yokai’s yokai powers were roughly on the same level as the four-faced yokai. Their yokai power ranged from several dozen units to 80 units.

Truth be told, even the tiger yokai didn’t have much yokai power compared to the other yokai. According to his calculation, it had only 536 units of yokai power.

‘Why are they all so weak?’ Baishi Shū wondered.

Even if the four-faced yokai faked their experience, and they became yokai one year ago, it was impossible that the entire organization was made up of minor yokai that had only one or two years of experience.

If that was the case, there was no way they could’ve survived in Tokyo for so long, let alone set up a base.

‘Could it be… I am really a super genius?’

Troubled by this thought, he soon arrived at Setagaya City.

He already knew there were surveillance cameras installed around the perimeter of the house. Therefore, before he stepped into the range of the surveillance camera, he amassed strength in his legs. He kicked the ground and shot forward like an arrow. Just before the yokai could react, he stretched his arm forward and used his skill.

Yes, this was yet another skill he had created by himself. It was an improved version of an immobilizing spell in Buddhism. Rather than focusing on one target, this skill created a barrier that could prevent the yokai from escaping.

This was the skill he wanted to try last time when he was helping Asada Senna exorcise the Jinmenken. However, Asada Senna refused his help.

Right now, he finally got the chance to put the skill to use. He planned to catch all the yokai in one draft so he didn’t have to chase after them one by one.

The day was breaking. To get rid of the yokai, he had already canceled his morning service. He didn’t want to jeopardize his learning schedule anymore.

The effect of the Palm of Mount Five Fingers was incredible. Within seconds, his spiritual power surged forward and formed a dome-shaped barrier that wrapped around the house, along with the two underground basements.

Since his power was too great, his palm went straight through the wall, causing it to collapse and a tunnel to appear.

Wiping off the ashes on his hand, he fell silent.

There was one disadvantage for practicing the Baishi Universal Deliverance. When using his skills, he could accidentally cause a massive amount of damage to his surroundings if he did not take care of his spiritual power output. It was fine for some skills that were used to kill evil spirits. However, what if he was using the meditation spell on somebody, and his spiritual power overshot again?

He dared not to imagine the outcome.

‘I guess I can’t use the meditation spell until I have full control over my own power…’

The four-faced yokai in the basement trembled when he heard the loud thud from above.

‘He is here! The monk is here!’

Even though the four-faced yokai worried that they might lead Baishi Shū back to the base, they were hoping that they had shaken him off somewhere along the way.

While they were on their way back to their base, they meticulously erased all their traces, taking more routes than they would have in an effort to confuse Baishi Shu. However, all of their attempts proved to be useless when Baishi Shū appeared at their base

“I believe Big Boss will be able to get rid of that monk. He is the most powerful amongst us!”

The four-faced yokai were relieved when they thought about their boss, who was sitting on the couch on the first floor. They rushed to the technician and peered into the monitor screen.

The four-faced yokai came to the underground basement to check up on the surveillance camera. In case something went wrong and their boss failed to emerge victorious from the confrontation, they would pack all of their stuff and run away with a grieving heart. They would hide in a corner of the world, hoping that they would be able to avenge their boss one day.

From the camera, they saw the monk, holding a gilding staff and wearing a black robe, walk into the first floor.

The smile left the tiger yokai’s face the moment it saw Baishi Shu. It threw away its tablet and food, rising to its feet. As it grew larger, its face also bent out of shape due to anger. Hair emerged from within its skin and a long tail grew out of its back. With a mighty sweep, it destroyed all the furniture surrounding it.

“How did you find this place?”

The four-faced yokai trembled again. Yokai had exceptionally good hearing, so they could hear the conversation on the first floor.

Baishi Shū did not answer the tiger yokai’s question. He wiped his grin and said, “Oh, what a coincidence. I happened to have questions of my own as well. How about this? A question for a question. Each of us takes a round to ask a question, and then…”

“Haha! Each of us takes a round to ask a question? Don’t make me laugh, monk. I don’t care how you got here. After I kill you, I am going to eat that f*cking useless technician!”

Hearing this, the four-faced yokai turned around and looked apologetically at the…

Hmm, where was the technician?

They looked around and saw the technician had begun to pack its belongings, ready to flee at any moment.

‘Wow, you truly are fast, brother!’

After giving the technician a thumbs up, the four-faced yokai turned back to the screen. Then, their eyes grew large. They had just taken their eyes off the screen for a second and the entire living room was gone. All the furniture had been destroyed, and there was now a huge tiger standing in the center of the living room. With every swipe of its massive claw, it left nothing but cracked floor in its wake. The wind howled madly and a black cloud circled in the air. The yokai power of their Big Boss was truly immense.

After dodging another claw swipe from the tiger yokai, Baishi Shū saw his opening and charged forward. With his palm facing outward, he donned a regretful expression and said, “It seems that you are not willing to answer my questions. Well, as the head of a yokai organization, you committed innumerable murders, and you are used to seeing death. I guess you will not listen to whatever I want to say or answer whatever questions I want to ask. In that case, I will say no more. Let’s hit the road.”

With that, a holy light burst out from Baishi Shu’s palm. The tiger yokai suddenly stopped moving, and before it could do anything, the black cloud circling around it dissipated and its body began to disintegrate.

Then, when the light faded, the tiger yokai was gone.

The four-faced yokai standing in front of the screen fell silent. From the screen, they could imagine how fragile and small their big boss was in front of the endless holy light. Tears flowed out of their eyes as they sobbed, “Don’t worry, Big Boss. We will certainly avenge you. We will ingrain the things and humiliation we received today into our hearts. We will go on with our life and…”

However, before they could finish their vow, they saw through the corner of their eyes that the technician hit the wall while it was trying to escape. A white lotus appeared momentarily at the point of impact and prevented the technician from going through the wall.

“…”

They fell silent again. Then, they dropped to the floor on their knees and pleaded, “Please spare our life! We are willing to tell you everything we know!”
