Chapter 34: We Meet Again
With a suave drift, Ye Daying stopped at the bottom of the hill and panted as he jumped to their side.
“Well done. You’ll be rewarded later!!” Huang Quan smiled and patted his shoulder.
“I didn’t do that!” Ye Daying turned around and looked at the unending wave of red-eyed steel beasts, whose roars resounded throughout the sky. He was dumbfounded.
“Heaven took pity on me. I only sprinkled a few crystals, but suddenly, the entire city erupted, and all the steel beasts chased after me.”
A steady stream of steel beasts rushed toward Yang City. Meanwhile, many Motorbots who were alone outside the city all rushed into the city.
Lin Qing was stunned as he watched this scene. “It can’t be. There must be hundreds of thousands of steel beasts. I’m afraid all the steel beasts in the nearby cities are here. What exactly did you do?”
“I really didn’t do anything.” Ye Daying opened his sack that contained hundreds of crystals inside. “I didn’t even use the bait.”
“F*ck! They’ve probably encountered a large-scale beast tide. Forget it. Let’s sneak into the city now.”
Bullets flew out, and the sound of artillery shells rang out incessantly. The entire city was filled with smoke as countless Motorbots had moved to the main gate of Yang City to resist the steel beasts.
On the ground, hundreds of tanks continued to bombard the area. And in the sky, the gun muzzles of the military helicopters were burning red.
Even so, the army of steel beasts was still fearless. They charged forward and stepped on the corpses of their comrades.
There were crocodiles that were tens of meters long, rhinoceros that were so tough that even missiles couldn’t penetrate their skin, gorillas that were more than twenty meters tall, and black bears with punches weighed more than ten thousand kilograms. All kinds of large animals were displaying violence.
The entire city was retreating, leaving the battlefield in front.
After turning into his heavy truck form, Lin Qing sneaked into Yang City from the border and went straight to warehouse No. 82 on Shangyuan Road.
This place was originally used as a depot by a logistics company, but it was naturally requisitioned after the Cataclysm.
“Captain, I’ll go and cut the generator. Then I’ll find high ground to cover you guys.” Seeing the street lamps lighting up the streets, Ye Daying stopped in his tracks.
“Okay, be careful.”
This area was considered a military area. Usually, there were many Motorbots guarding the area, so no civilians came.
Now that most of the Motorbots had been transferred to the battlefield, only a few remained.
After passing through a few streets, Lin Qing and Huang Quan encountered a few groups of guards. They killed all the guards and quickly approached the warehouse.
“Captain, the battle ahead is very fierce. Should we go and provide support?”
There were 50 construction truck Motorbots standing outside the warehouse. One of them was asking Jiang Yanjun.
“F*ck you! If you want to die, go ahead!” Jiang Yanjun cursed angrily with a dark expression. “I applied to come and look at the warehouse precisely because the situation over there is dangerous.”
“Hehe, Sir Jiang, calm down. This kid is new and doesn’t know any better. I know you brought us here because you treat us as your own people.”
“That’s true. You’ve been with me for quite some time now, so there are some things that you have to understand. In our line of work, you don’t necessarily need strength, but you need to have good vision. If you rush into everything, it won’t be enough even if you have ten lives.”
“Of course, of course. Sir Jiang is right!”
Jiang Yanjun nodded his head slightly. Then he looked around and suddenly sighed. “During the steel beasts’ large-scale attack tonight, there were Motorbots taking advantage of the situation for their own benefit. They snuck into the warehouse and caused us to lose 5,000 crystals.”
“What?” The subordinate was stunned. “With Sir Jiang personally guarding the warehouse, how would a thief dare to ambush us?”
“Are there no thieves who have done so?” Jiang Yanjun narrowed his eyes and stared at him intently.
“Are there…?”
Clang! Jiang Yanjun kicked open the door of the warehouse as his arm turned into a gun barrel. Then he shot down the people inside who were holding Gatling guns.
The eight ordinary soldiers didn’t have time to react and were shot into a pulp in the blink of an eye. Jiang Yanjun then turned around and said calmly, “The corpses are here. Were you asking me where the thieves are?”
“S-S-S-S Jiang, they w-were our own people. How could you…” one of the Motorbots stammered as he watched this scene in horror.
But before he could finish his sentence, another Motorbot brandished a large mace and smashed his head.
“Captain, with so much destruction on the scene, it’s possible that more than five thousand crystals were lost. We’ve lost at least eight thousand crystals.”
Jiang Yanjun looked at the Motorbot, who was a head taller than the rest, with appreciation. “What’s your name?”
“My name is Xiong Ba!”
“Alright, you’ll be the platoon leader in the future.”
“Thank you, Captain!”
“I’ll go in and take a look. Stay on guard outside, and don’t let anyone in!”
“Yes, I will complete the mission!”
Lin Qing and Huang Quan were dumbfounded by Jiang Yanjun’s actions. It turned out that Jiang Yanjun was also an ingrate who specialized in tricking his own people.
With a light cough, Lin Qing strode out of the darkness. “He sacrificed a large Motorbots and a few soldiers. Such a brutal bandit. I think the loss should be worth at least thirty to fifty thousand crystals.”
F*ck!
Jiang Yanjun staggered and almost fell down. Who was the one who was more ruthless than him and said that 30,000 to 50,000 crystals had been lost? Jiang Tianyun would kill him if he knew about this.
Just as he was about to turn around and curse, he suddenly felt that something was wrong! Why does this voice sound so familiar?
“Brother Jiang, we meet again. Long time no see!”
Then Lin Qing and Huang Quan slowly walked forward as the construction trucks retreated step by step. Meanwhile, Xiong Ba retreated to the door of the warehouse guiltily, ready to run away at any time.
They had all experienced the battle at the Officer Appointment Deck the day before yesterday. The scene of Lin Qing killing dozens of large mechas with one slash was still deeply imprinted in their minds.
“Haha, I was wondering who it was. So it’s you. There’s a path to heaven, but you didn’t take it. Instead, you barged into hell and brought yourself to ruin.”
“I don’t know if there’s a path to heaven, but this is definitely not hell.” Lin Qing pulled out the Flame Devil, and its eight-meter-long fiery red saber light illuminated the surroundings.
Meanwhile, Huang Quan aimed his gun at Jiang Yanjun. “Don’t move!”
“We have fifty people here. I don’t believe that you two can kill all of them in an instant. As long as one of them escapes, there will be tens of thousands of Motorbots surrounding you in three minutes.”
“Heh, are you threatening me?” Lin Qing pointed his sword at Jiang Yanjun as he walked to the door of the warehouse. “I can’t kill fifty of them in an instant, but I can definitely kill you.”
“How about we make a deal?” Jiang Yanjun raised his hands. “Your target should be the crystals, right? You won’t be able to leave if I attract a large group of people here.”
“And then?”
“Take away two boxes of crystals, and I’ll pretend I didn’t see you. Everyone will mind their own business.”
He turned out to be a coward… Lin Qing smiled. “But you even brought people to kill me the day before yesterday, right?”
“Those were all orders from the higher-ups. I’m just an employee. How would I dare disobey them? If you want to look for Jiang Tianyun, go look for him. I won’t stop you.”
After thinking for a few seconds, Lin Qing looked at Huang Quan and said, “I’m giving you two minutes. Take as much as you can.”
Just as Jiang Yanjun had said, there were 50 people here, and they couldn’t kill all of them. As long as one of them ran away to report the matter, the entire army would arrive in no time.
After the Cataclysm, crystals were an important resource. So Jiang Tianyun would never allow anything to happen to the warehouse.
But since they were already here, it would be a waste for them to risk their lives and just take away two boxes of crystals. This was their only chance, so the more crystals, the better.
The warehouse was the size of a football field, with hundreds of boxes neatly stacked on top of each other. These boxes were labeled ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’, and ‘4’. These were the number of times the crystals in each box had evolved.
Huang Quan took out a large sack that he had prepared beforehand. He opened a box and poured the contents inside the sack.
Jiang Yanjun’s heart bled as he watched him take fourth-evolution crystals. “Goddammit. I’m not done with you… Leave some for me!”
