Chapter 131: Chapter Thirty Baiting
Li Yan walked through the corridor with a cold face, the sky was dim, and there were couples whispering in the corners.
A long-beaked black bird landed on his fingertip.
“Sudu, what’s the situation?”
“Lord Governor, it’s quite lively here~”
The Nine-Winged Sudu smiled cunningly from a bird’s-eye view in the sky.
“I’ve run into some trouble here. Send over all the Sudu birds you have with you, and I’ll deal with this as quickly as possible, then come find you.”
“Yes, my lord.”
The Sudu bird on his fingertip flapped its wings and flew up, dozens of black Sudu birds smaller than hornets passed through windows and corridors, spreading out from Li Yan as the center, searching outward bit by bit.
Li Yan’s eyes kept moving, men and women laughing and chatting could be seen everywhere in the corridor.
“One’s a gunman, one can control people’s minds for a short time, and there might be others.”
Suddenly, Li Yan felt numbness in his chest. Without thinking, his fist smashed through the windowpane, and amid the stunned expressions of the surrounding students, he jumped out, grabbed the edge of the balcony with his palm, and in two or three climbs, he reached the window ledge on the fourth floor. He kicked hard with both feet, and his body shot through the window.
“Ah~”
The girl who was pulling up her pants saw Li Yan kicking through the window and screamed in shock.
Li Yan glanced at the sign on the door.
A matchstick man wearing a skirt.
A Sudu bird lay on the tile, its flesh and feathers bloody and mangled a mess.
The girl ran out screaming. Li Yan raised his hand and the Ring Dragon Sword spun and whizzed, nailing into the plaster wall right in front of the girl. The chilling coldness made the girl shiver.
“Don’t move.”
The Sudu birds are very agile, with excellent flying skills and small size. The skull-tattooed man couldn’t shoot down even one with a machine gun; it couldn’t have been stomped to death by a regular person.
The girl trembled all over with fear, raising her wrist near her ear, her eyes full of terror.
Li Yan scanned the bottom of a row of stalls and saw the exposed canvas shoes. He kicked the door open to reveal the girl inside with a flushed face.
The situation was awkward, but Li Yan didn’t blink, staring unflinchingly.
“Pervert!”
This yell could be heard clearly up and down several floors.
Li Yan’s expression didn’t change in the slightest. He took out the gun left by the bearded man and fired a shot at the entrance. Plaster flew off the wall, scattering far away, and not a single person outside the bathroom dared to show their face now.
Li Yan withdrew his arm, the barrel of the gun still emitting wisps of smoke, pointed at the girl crouching on the ground.
“Miss, you’re quite the gambler, huh.”
…
The door to the water room creaked open.
Qin, wearing an army coat and holding two thermos flasks, was leisurely heading to the duty room.
“Old man, old man. You better take a look.”
A student wearing glasses ran over, gasping for air.
“What’s the matter? What happened?”
Qin put on airs.
“The new school security guard, the one surnamed Li, he, he…”
Qin tossed aside the thermos flasks and ran in the direction the student was pointing, his legs pumping fast.
“Big brother, I don’t know how I’ve offended you. What, what are you doing? ”
The girl’s eyes were swollen red like peaches.
Li Yan glanced at her, then at another girl trembling with fear, caught by the Ring Dragon Sword, facing a moment of indecision.
Outside the door, the department head, with his hair parted down the middle, didn’t dare to show himself but called out dryly from outside:
“Comrade Li, if you have any issues, just tell us. If it’s not going well at work, or you have family troubles, we can help you solve them. What are you doing?”
Li Yan stared at the girl in the stall, his finger tapping back and forth on the trigger as if hesitating over something.
After a while, Li Yan suddenly laughed, “Girl, how about we make a bet?”
The girl’s expression was on the verge of tears, “Big brother, bet on what?”
Li Yan’s finger tightened on the trigger bit by bit, “I bet the two of you…”
The sound of the sword blade scraping the wall resounded, with a hiss of wind behind Li Yan’s head.
The girl standing by quickly bent down and charged forward, fluidly drawing the Ring Dragon Sword, fiercely slashing toward the back of Li Yan’s neck.
“They are all.”
“Bang!”
Qin rushed over, taking three steps at a time, and just as he was about to shout something, he heard a gunshot from inside the door.
Li Yan tilted his head to dodge the Ring Dragon, a sword blade sharp as autumn water slicing off a few of his hairs, the girl holding the sword stood with an imposing stance, her posture with the sword correct and fierce, clearly the product of hard training.
The hot bullet clinked to the floor, the seemingly pitiful girl in canvas shoes had her eyes wide open, her veins on her face turning blue and twisted. Her expression was fierce, yet it carried a hint of chilling intent.
All three paused for a breath.
“Murder!”
People outside the door saw Li Yan shooting into the stall and immediately became chaotic.
The sword-wielding girl swept her blade horizontally while the canvas shoes girl let out a piercing scream. Li Yan quickly retreated, firing off shots in succession.
The light bulb swayed, the flash of the sword and the bullets flew together.
“You faced the power of Mu Kui.”
Mu Kui, of the Luo kind.
Li Yan’s head throbbed in pain, his body momentarily disobeying him. Just as he was about to plant the black Dragon Flag, a primitive, green essence quickly streamed from the verdant Copper Coin over his heart, clarifying his mind.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw two delicate faces filled with icy murderous intent.
…
Wushan pushed aside the drooping branches, moving through the forest where the path zigzagged, the smell of blood becoming ever stronger.
Passing over tree roots and bizarre stones, he finally came across living person amidst the scattered remains.
It was a kindly-faced young man, half-kneeling on the ground with a sweet-looking, seemingly unconscious young woman on his back.
There were bloodstains all around, and the young man had a bowl-sized hole in his chest, making it extremely difficult for him to even stand.
Wushan smacked his lips and sat down next to the young man.
“Earth Endurance, is this all the strength you have?”
With blood on his lips, the young man gave a bitter smile. “It’s shameful…”
“After all, you folks have been helping me out all this time. Tell me where the people went, and I’ll help you treat your wounds~”
“They’ve gone too far, you won’t be able to catch up,” the young man said as he gently lay the girl behind him flat on the ground, his pallid fingers pinching the tree trunk.
“Unlike you possessors of inheritances, the strength of Earth Endurance depends only on the strength of the fruit they inhabit, being a part of the fruit itself. That’s also why we can better assist your kind in cleaning up afterwards.”
“Honestly, to deal with you low-ranking travelers who don’t even have the Nine Luminaries, our manpower was entirely sufficient. But unexpectedly, cough, cough, it was an upset from a hidden current, that Pei Yunhu…”
Wushan watched as the young man’s breath gradually weakened.
“How about I call you an ambulance?”
The young man laughed freely.
“Earth Endurance only goes into slumber, never extinct.”
Using his last bit of strength, he shakily pointed to the hole in his chest, his hand dropped, and his pupils slowly dilated.
Wushan squinted his eyes and reached into the young man’s chest.
What he pulled out was a brilliantly colored brocade jade scroll.
[The Multicolored Brocade Jade Scroll Imperial Edict]
Kui’s power is sealed within, no additions or alterations permitted.
Wushan’s heart suddenly palpitated, as if it was tightly grasped by something.
Before he could react, a surge of black water violently swept across his wrist.
Wushan’s eyes flashed fiercely, a yellow light burst forth from beneath his feet, and with an outstretched arm, he forcefully repelled the attacker.
Dressed in a tank top and shorts, Zhao Wu flipped over, his feet digging into the earth, retreating over a foot away.
A Dragon-patterned Large Saber fell from the sky, its bright blade pressing towards Wushan’s eyes.
A red halo spiraled out from behind Wushan’s head, clashing with the Dragon-patterned Large Saber.
White smoke sizzled in the air.
Zhao Xin’s body leapt back like a swallow, positioning herself and her brother for a pincer move.
“Hey, mister, how about you let us use that thing? We’ll return it once we’re done, okay?”
“What if I don’t?”
“Then we’ll fight until you do!”
Zhao Xin’s blade dragged along the ground, a black snake coiled around the staff of the Dragon-patterned Large Saber, lending an eerie charm to the weapon.
“Hold on a moment…”
As Wushan began to speak, the siblings exchanged surprised glances.
Wushan first looked leisurely up at the sky, then down to scrutinize Earth Endurance’s corpse.
“With death comes no sensation; even if I guess wrong, it can’t be considered offensive.”
He grabbed the young man from the ground, Zhao Xin instinctively stepped forward but was stopped by Zhao Wu.
Bald-headed Zhao Wu stared at Earth Endurance’s body, his face reflecting contemplation.
Wushan, holding the young man’s neck, flung him into the air, a red halo bursting from the back of his head. By the time the young man’s body hit the ground, it had turned into a giant torch.
The sound of sizzling fat was chilling to the bone.
Wushan watched the burning corpse for twenty seconds, noticing no changes, finally nodded.
“It seems it isn’t some kind of trick to repel wolves and swallow tigers, Pei Yunhu really did get away.”
Turning his head to the siblings, Wushan gestured with his fingers.
“Come on, fight until I give in.”
…
“You have received the inheritance: Mu Kui’s Branch – Verdant Vines.”
The blood-soaked Li Yan turned around to find several people outside the door collapsed in fear.
He swallowed a Yuanmou Jujube and stepped outside, leaving behind the warm bodies.
Qin looked at the young man covered in sticky blood in a daze, his mind buzzing.
Li Yan glanced at Qin twice. Lifting his hand, he startled Qin with a tremble, sending him plumping onto the ground.
Seeing this, Li Yan hesitated, withdrew his hand, and said nothing. He quietly walked outside, everyone around too fearful to intervene.
