Chapter 39: Who Are You To Him
“Noah? Are you referring to that guy, Luo Yibei?” Fang Chixia froze for a second before she regained her senses really quickly.
“That guy?” The person on the other end of the call seemed to freeze too. However, within half a second, the person continued chatting with her rather happily and kindly, “Yes, that guy. May I ask who you are to him?”
The voice was suddenly filled with happiness. When Fang Chixia heard the other’s words, she could almost see the other smile so brightly their eyes curl up into crescents.
“I am his…” Fang Chixia didn’t know how to answer her.
Her marriage with Luo Yibei was a hidden one. Apart from the two of them involved, no one else knew about it.
The other seemed to have guessed her awkwardness and didn’t push further for an answer, choosing to ask another question instead. “Has Yibei been staying at that villa these few days?”
“Yes, he’s been here the past few days.” Fang Chixia let out a sigh of relief as she answered what she could truthfully after sensing the other’s rather kind tone.
“Has he always been there and never gone out?” The voice on the other end of the call seemed to be laced with a hint of humor.
Fang Chixia was speechless.
What kind of question was this?
Why did these words make one think the wrong way so easily?!
No matter how Fang Chixia thought about it, the caller’s voice felt strange to her and she hurriedly tried to correct her words. “What I meant was that he has been here for the past few nights.”
Afraid that the other would overthink, she added with a white lie, “Alone!”
“Ah, so it’s like that!” The other’s voice seemed a little disappointed.
“Miss, can I ask who you are…” Not knowing if the other would ask any more questions, Fang Chixia tried to change the topic. “Do you need me to notify him that you called?”
“Never mind, I don’t have anything anyway. I simply called to see how he was.” The female voice in the call seemed rather indifferent, only adding a special reminder, “It’ll be Grandpa’s birthday in a few days, do tell him to remember to come home then.”
“Alright, I will tell him.” Fang Chixia agreed with a faint smile.
Just as the person on the other end of the call was ready to hang up, another voice suddenly trailed from the other end of the call. “Zhixing, who are you taking with on the phone?”
The clear voice trailed into Fang Chixia’s ear audibly. Fang Chixia froze as her body stiffened instantly.
Zhixing…
Luo Yibei entered the house from outside. When he saw how dazed she looked, he stared at her with confusion and suspicion as he took a few steps towards her.
“Did someone call?”
“Yes.” Fang Chixia answered him curtly, as if not yet regaining her senses.
“Who?” Luo Yibei asked once again.
Fang Chixia lifted her face slowly as she muttered her reply, “Your mom…”
“Are you cursing me[1]?” Staring at her awkward expression, Luo Yibei’s first reaction was about her complaining about Luo Xichen and him in front of him back in the car that morning.
“How am I?” Fang Chixia stood up and turned around, walking towards the kitchen.
She was simply a little surprised that Sha Zhixing was such a nice person to talk to. She was also surprised that their first conversation happened under such circumstances.
Soon after, she finished preparing a simple dinner for them. Afterward, Luo Yibei went into the study while Fang Chixia returned to her room to prepare and unpack her clothes.
Taking out her things from her luggage, she opened the wardrobe, wanting to put them in. However, it was then that she realized there were already many female items inside. There was everything, ranging from shirts, dresses, jackets, pajamas, underwear, and more.
Fang Chixia froze, somewhat surprised that Luo Yibei had actually gotten someone to prepare all of this. Just as she wanted to pick a set of pajamas out, something at the side attracted her gaze instead…
