Beloved Tyrant - Chapter 14
Wearing a veil and sitting in the back seat of the Shinto shrine, he repeatedly sang along to the hymn after falling asleep several times. My turn came quickly because of the small number of people who attended the early morning service. Go to the bishop and remove the veil, and the bishop recognized me and pretended to know me.
The bishop scattered my shoulder once with a whip with nine thin strands of silk. This is a ritual in which a nine-strand whip promises to keep faith in any hardship by mimicking the deeds of St. Maselk, the prophet who prides himself on God until he is poisoned.
As I stepped aside, Tristan, who had been waiting for his turn, came forward and lifted the veil from his head. Tristan also returned to his seat after finishing the ascetic ceremony. The service ended with a last-minute prayer and priest’s blessing. The congregation slowly left. Sitting in his seat in a veil, the priest approached me. I said hello first from my side.
“God is always with us.”
“You do not lose hope. It is an honor to meet Your Imperial Highness at this time. And even Brother Tristan.” The priest glanced back at Tristan. “It’s been almost three years since my brother² left for the Western Front. You look so much like your mother.”
If I remember correctly, that bishop took a lot of money from Aurest. Such an ordinary greeting couldn’t have ended warmly.
“I hope you don’t resemble the greed of being blinded by power and committing treason.”
I knew this would happen. It was always painful to hear insulting Vathorlia. I interrupted the priest’ words.
“That was an impressive lecture. Listening to the word of the Lord, I am ashamed of the days when I was indifferent to faith.”
“It is always a pleasure to see the wandering believers come back. I hope to see you often at church.”
Unbelievably faithful Aurest, I attend the morning mass every week before it’s a big deal, but I was an unfaithful believer whose ending was to reflect on the anniversary.
“In that sense… I would like to reflect on the past and make a separate offering with gratitude for the grace of God.”
“Do it. I will use it for those who need attention and hands.”
I took off the earrings. The bishop watched with excitement as the elaborately crafted expensive earrings disappeared into the offering box.
“Priest. There are people under me who need the grace of God.”
“I heard that Your Imperial Highness the Princess had called the Healing Priest. Unfortunately, the Healing Priests were busy and couldn’t send it.”
You have a cure for Aurest, but you don’t have one for me?
It can’t be.
Either it was Aurest who stopped them, or the Princess, who doesn’t pay money, told them to come, or one of them was the only one.³
The unfortunate side is the age, so it has no choice but to bend down and go in. I laughed softly.
“I understand. There’s always a lot of people who need help, but there’s always a shortage of people who can help. Is it still difficult to get help from a healing priest?”
[1] Daeseongjeon: I think this is the name of the cathedral.
[2] my brother: He’s talking about Tristan.
[3] Either it was Aurest who stopped them, or the Princess, who doesn’t pay money, told them to come, or one of them was the only one.: it’s either Aurest was the one who stopped them or they thought that the princess (Erin) who told them to come won’t give them “donation”, these two are the most possible answer as why didn’t the priest had come
[4] I guess it was on the side of money.: Erin thought that the reason why the priest didn’t come is because they knew she won’t give any money.
