Blood-Sucking Empress - Chapter 22
Qin Ning felt wronged, but he couldn’t say it aloud or complain. He could only stand there with an ashen-stricken complexion, his arrogant posture still ramrod straight. This was the first time the Empress had spoken to him in such an angry tone and he turned speechless, startled from Qianhe Liyou’s outburst.
“The Empress, this is not Qin Ning’s fault, it’s this Imperial Princess…”
“Shut up, when zhen is disciplining my consort, can an outsider interrupt me? If you have nothing to say, kneel.” Qianhe Liyou’s quiet tone had already turned murderous. Did this fool really want to offend her here and now? She even dares to speak and plead!
“Yes, this Imperial sister withdraws, this Imperial sister withdraws!” Qianhe Zongya was frightened by Qianhe Liyou’s murderous aura pouring out from her, and did not dare to say another extra word. With that, she softly withdrew from the Imperial Study.
“Qin Ning, why does your expression seem to be saying that you have no wrong in the matter?” As Qianhe Zongya quietly retreated, Qianhe Liyou once again set her gaze upon that arrogant figure.
Qin Ning stayed silent. He felt that he truly had done nothing wrong, but he felt the Empress’ silent and rising anger. But, he was unable to give any explanation: his mind, and mouth were at a loss for words. He had never felt that the Empress had possessed such a vast presence, her aura demanding respect and reverence from Qin Ning’s heart. Fear and horror slowly sunk into his heart. If it weren’t for his innate arrogance propping him up, he might not even have the courage to stand.
“Meeting in private, getting someone to ask zhen to release you, Qin Ning, do you have no sense of shame?” Qianhe Liyou’s line of thinking was extremely stubborn, and this stubbornness naturally carried conservative tenets. From her understanding, Qin Ning belonged to her and should not have contact with any other woman. Moreover, one should not promise to meet in private, even if it is to refuse or reject someone. It was not allowed, not to mention the rejection had failed spectacularly, bringing this matter up to her to handle. In her cognition, Qianhe Liyou believed that Qin Ning’s actions were wrong. Naturally, he should have felt ashamed, admitted to his mistakes, and should have knelt to beg for forgiveness. But Qin Ning insisted on his blamelessness, that he had done nothing wrong, making Qianhe Liyou very angry!
She had long come to a conclusion. If Qin Ning was unable to admit her mistake, she would let him know that the nation’s legal code also included family regulations and family rules!
“I refused, I did not do anything to let you down!” Qianhe Liyou’s aggressive tone and stinging words had made Qin Ning feel a little upset. He could not help, but to try to offer this phrase as some partial explanation. He could not help but recall that these days, his heart seemed to have developed an uncomfortable, unexplainable lump that could not seem to be resolved…
Back then, the reason why Qin Ning had agreed to accept the supreme ruler of the nation, the Empress Qianhe Liyou’s offer had been under the assumption that he had saved her life and the life-saving grace would be repaid. For him, entering the palace was to avoid external commotions and was the Empress’s debt of gratitude that he naturally deserved to receive. However, on the day of the uprising, the Empress won the admiration of the entire court with a high level of martial art prowess that shocked him to the core. She had easily regained control of the precarious situation with a few moves, thrusting Qin Ning into a state of doubt and uncertainty. It was inevitable that he would eventually cast doubt on whether his act of saving the Empress had been simply a farce, a mockery of his actions. The Empress’ martial prowess was so advanced that naturally, it hadn’t required him to take action, but the Empress had still pretended so that she could marry him as a consort. Just what kind of mentality and attitude did the Empress have when she had agreed to his request?
These days, Qin Ning had pondered over this question countless times, but the final answer only filled him with resentment. The more he gave it thought, the more he felt like a clown, just a toy in the hands of the Empress. What a foolish and ridiculous savior he was!
“Empress, divorce me!” Qin Ning was a very proud person. After thinking he had become a clown in the eyes of others and had even been scolded unfairly for his reasonable and proper actions. He could no longer endure and his patience had reached a limit. He had intentionally left out proper decorum by not referring to himself as ‘this consort’ and only wished to make the Empress so angry that she would ask for a divorce!
“What did you just say? Do you dare say it again?” Qianhe Liyou was really enraged this time, her voice taking on a gloomy tenor and a terrifying aura emanating from it. The whole body seemed to be dredged by an invisible black mist. This was the demon aura that a zombie possessed. Generally, it was well hidden within her body. It was only when she became extremely emotionally unstable that it would seep out to form a layer, an invisible protective film.
“…Your Majesty, since everything was just a game to you, you should have played enough and had your fun. I had been fooled for so long, and am naturally stupid, you should give me up now!” He would rather die than let others treat him as a clown, a thing they could just play around with!
“What game, when did I treat you like a toy?” As for Qin Ning’s baffling words, Qianhe Liyou was unable to make head or tail of it. However, she chose to suppress her anger and clearly asked for an explanation.
“How was it not? You obviously have excellent martial art skills, yet you still used me to save you. Now, I know everything. Do you still want to lie to me or do you want to continue this game? Or are you going to continue this game until you truly obtain me?” Due to his angered state, Qin Ning had felt a sudden burst of carefreeness, throwing out some words without thinking of following proper decorum. Looking at the Empress’ ominous expression, he was more sure that his guess had hit the mark. He couldn’t help but take another psychological blow to his psyche. His body trembled unsteadily, his facial expression becoming worse by the second.
Qianhe Liyou frowned. She couldn’t give a proper explanation to Qin Ning’s question. But, this was not a reason that allowed for the man to act so presumptuously!
“Qin Ning, zhen has never treated you like this was all a game, nor did I deceive you. You’d better calm down. Zhen will give you three days. Think about it clearly. Zhen likes men who are obedient. If you cannot do so, then zhen will satisfy your wishes and divorce you!” Qianhe Liyou originally thought these men were troublesome, but she had shouldered the responsibility given to her. If he wanted to think that she had deceived him and wanted to leave, that was actually in line with her own feelings, how could she refuse it?
Qianhe Liyou’s boiling temper was gradually replaced with her usually deep apathetic and indifferent attitude. It was suddenly as if none of this had anything to do with her, she was truly too temperamental.
Qin Ning felt like a cold basin of water had been poured over his head. His mouth opened, but he couldn’t say anything. His mind was dizzy and blurry as he reeled from the Empress’ words, the phrase “satisfying our wishes and divorce you” reverberating endlessly in his ears.
Divorce…Divorce….
“Niangniang, Niangniang, what’s wrong?”
niangniang is a term commonly used by servants, palace attendants, court officials when they refer to an Imperial Consort, Empress; indicating of one’s status as a high-ranking consort/queen
“Ah…” Qin Ning jolted out of his stupor, awakened by a familiar voice. Looking around, he realized he had unexpectedly returned to his quarters—Ning Qing Palace.
“Niangniang, what’s wrong? Why is your face so pale? Has something happened?
Hearing these caring and concerned words, Qin Ning raised his head to look at Fanghua, his personal maidservant and shook his head slightly. His heart was full of unbearable grief that he couldn’t utter a single word.
“I’m tired, you are dismissed. I will rest now.”
The Empress was going to divorce him, haha, the Empress was going to divorce him. The Empress he hadn’t paid attention to or attached importance to was actually going to divorce him. That cold pair of eyes gazed at him as if it was disgusted, the murderous aura had inadvertently pierced through him, hurting his heart. The Empress who he had always regarded with admiration had become so ruthless, and even kept saying that she was going to divorce him!
Fine, if you are going to divorce me, then you can just do it. Why would it be possible that he was reluctant to leave this muddle-headed, incapable ruler!
“Fanghua, pack up some things. Retrieve the things I had brought with me when I first entered the palace. Take them all out. As for these extra objects, I don’t want a single bit of it!” He was no longer planning on waiting out these three days, he would leave now!
