Chapter 14: Distance Makes The Heart Fonder
Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation
Su Jin brought Lu Hao to the refinery and took out a Marrow Cleansing Pill. As she gave it to him, she told him about its functions.
She had read the books about the pills by now. The writings stated that one could reduce the pain felt when consuming the pill by having soaking oneself in water as one ate it. Back then, Su Jin had just swallowed the pill whole, and she could still remember the agony she suffered sharply.
What Su Jin did not know was that the pain she suffered had already been greatly diluted by her healing vine’s power.
Su Jin and Lu Hao went to the stream in the dimension, and she used her mind to summon a large wooden bucket. She then filled the bucket with water and asked Lu Hao to sit inside it.
Lu Hao looked at Su Jin, his gaze flickering back and forth slightly.
Su Jin, “?”
“Right, I’ll strip now.” With those words, Lu Hao began to take off his shirt in front of Su Jin, who hurriedly turned around in shock.
Su Jin waited until she heard the sound of Lu Hao getting into the water before she finally turned around again and offered the pill to Lu Hao, who was in the bucket. Her face was bright red.
Lu Hao ate the pill without hesitation.
Less than half a minute later, Lu Hao’s handsome face began to twitch. It felt as though all of his joints were being smashed to pieces. Had his beloved Lil Jin suffered this pain alone? The thought made his heart hurt too.
Su Jin looked at him anxiously. To the two of them right now, every second was pure agony.
“How are you feeling, Lu Hao? Can you hang in there?” Su Jin asked anxiously.
“I’m fine. It’s much better now.”
About half an hour later, Lu Hao finally felt the pain fade. He opened his eyes and saw that Su Jin was next to him, looking at him worriedly. There was a warm rush over his heart, and he really wanted to hug her right now.
The next second, though, he smelled the foul odor. The clear stream water in the wooden bucket had turned brown-black…
“Um, Lil Jin, I’m fine now. But I need to go out and take a bath,” Lu Hao said awkwardly.
“Sure. Try saying in your mind that you want to go back outside, and then focus.”
Lu Hao nodded then disappeared from before Su Jin’s eyes. In order to prevent any awkwardness, Su Jin did not leave immediately. First, she acted on an idea and poured the dirty water Lu Hao had left behind into fields…
Hehe, she was going to turn all the filth in this dimension into fertilizer for the fields! That was what the old farmers did, right? It was killing two birds with one stone!
If the fields could think for themselves, they would be rendered speechless. They were spiritual fields, for goodness’ sake! They absorbed the spiritual energy in the air to produce priceless treasures! Why was their current owner so stupid?
Still, Su Jin’s little idea did keep the dimension clean, because the fields indeed had cleansing effects. The only problem was that the ‘nutrients’ would have no effect on any crops there.
Su Jin did not know that she had stumbled onto the right course of action, of course. She was thinking about how she had to discuss their next plans with Lu Hao once she left the dimension. Also, they had to get rid of the zombie Lu Hao’s team had apprehended ASAP, or things could get very nasty.
Hence, Su Jin teleported herself out of the dimension with a turn of her thoughts.
Lp was standing shirtless in their bedroom, wiping his hair. When Su Jin reappeared, she just happened to land next to him.
…
The atmosphere was getting a little hot and heavy. Although Lu Hao had jumped slightly when Su Jin popped out of nowhere, he did not show his surprise on his face. Instead, he just looked at the dazed and pulled her onto his lap with his large hand, offering her the towel. “Could you help me dry my hair?”
“…”
Lu Hao had a crew cut, so there was nothing much to dry. Even so, Su Jin obliged, blushing.
After Lu Hao took the Marrow Cleansing Pill, he felt as though his entire body had been reconstructed. His spirits were high as well. In Su Jin’s eyes, Lu Hao had become much more handsome and energetic. Her red face turned scarlet.
Uh oh, what should she do? She suddenly found Lu Hao super hot! He was fresh from the shower and emanating testosterone everywhere. Su Jin felt as though she was going to melt into him any time now.
Their gazes met, and their close proximity meant that Lu Hao’s hands began to wander again. Su Jin’s smooth skin, her hourglass figure, every part of her was tempting his newly-invigorated instincts. Was it because distance made the heart fonder? Right now, all Lu Hao knew was that he desired Su Jin so much that it hurt. He almost wanted to gobble her up, piece by piece, so that she could never leave him again. Never again…
Once more, he assaulted her lips. Su Jin nearly gasped. Was he born in the Year of the Dog or something? Dogs were great at tracking and finding things, though, and he was hopeless with directions. As her thoughts wandered, Su Jin’s eyes began to lose their focus. He advanced on her like a storm, but as she withstood his kisses in his arms, she felt like a tiny boat that had finally found a safe harbor.
…
The sun went down behind the horizon, the last twilight rays shining through the curtains and onto the bed in the room. Su Jin opened her eyes wearily. She had taken the Marrow Cleansing Pill and strengthened her body, but even she felt absolutely worn out right now. Lu Hao was like a tireless beast, taking her for one round after another. He had seemed determined to suck her dry.
They only got married last month, and as far as she remembered, they had not gone that crazy even on their wedding night. Could it be the effects of the Marrow Cleansing Pill? If she had known this would happen, Su Jin wailed inwardly, she would not have given it to him so soon.
Next to her, Lu Hao had already gotten up. He planned to go back to the station and check on the suspect they thought could be a zombie. His comrades did not know about any of this yet, so he was worried that the suspect would hurt them.
A fair lily-white arm was draped over the side of the bed. Lu Hao looked at Su Jin, who was lying in bed, with pure affection in his eyes. Right now, he was brimming with energy, as though he could easily run another ten kilometers with weights.
“Wait for me at home, Lil Jin. I’m just dropping by to see my team.” Lu Hao rubbed Su Jin’s long hair.
“Lu Hao, I want to go with you.” Su Jin took his large hand and rested her face in it sweetly.
“No, you should stay here and rest. I’ll take you there tomorrow if you want.”
Eventually, she wheedled and whined until even the ‘cold-hearted’ Lu Hao gave in. Fine, she could come along if she wanted. He liked her clingy side too.
Su Jin happily changed into her clothes and put on her shoes. It was not that she wanted to cling to Lu Hao, but she was extremely curious to know if that suspect was truly a zombie. She wished he was not, but her gut feeling told her that he had to be!
The pendant around her neck had disappeared, replaced by a green leaf tattoo the size of a fingernail right under her collarbone. It was very hard to see unless someone knew what they were looking for.
An identical green leaf marking had appeared on the underside of Lu Hao’s wrist too, but Lu Hao was quite tanned so it was quite difficult to notice. The two of them understood that the marking represented the dimension. All the better, since they no longer had to worry about losing the pendant now.
Yin Chengtian saw Captain Lu walking in, hand in hand with a beautiful woman, and was so shocked that he nearly dropped his mug. Thank goodness he reacted quickly enough, or he would have embarrassed himself in front of the captain.
Was the captain here to show off his love? Yin Chengtian thought to himself exasperatedly.
Shi Jin, who was on duty with Yin Chengtian, was equally surprised. Was this gentle, caring man really their captain? Also, why was the captain suddenly more handsome than before?
“C-Cap’n! Why are you here this late at night?” Yin Chengtian asked, trying to butter him up. The captain had not seen him scrolling through his phone just now, did he?”
“I’m here to check on the suspect, Li Wei. This is my wife, Su Jin.” Lu Hao introduced them briefly.
“Nice to meet you, Sis-in-law!” Yin Chengtian and Shi Jin immediately greeted Su Jin in unison. Whoaaa, the captain’s wife was crazy beautiful! She was much prettier than their squad idol, Liao Yifan.
Lu Hao then introduced Yin Chengtian and Shi Jin to Su Jin, Once they exchanged greetings, they went into the holding cells to see the suspect they were here for.
Li Wei’s condition was delicate, so he was being held in a separate cell on his own.
The motion-sensor lights came on in the corridor automatically. They were off office hours, so the lights in the cells were not on. The corridor lights shone into the dark cell, and they could vaguely see a silhouette inside. His back was facing them, so the four of them could not see his face clearly.
Yin Chengtian yelled the suspect’s name a few times, but the latter did not react. He opened the cell door and was about to walk in when Su Jin stopped him.
Su Jin asked Lu Hao, “Do you have a gun?”
Lu Hao nodded and pulled the gun out of its holster, but he did not give it to Su Jin. Instead, he said, “All of you, wait here. I’ll go in.”
Su Jin knew that Lu Hao would never let her go in on her own, so she stood on the tips of her toes and whispered the traits of a zombie into his ear. If anything seemed wrong, she told him to aim for the head.
Lu Hao nodded and pushed open the door, going in. The first thing he did when he went in was to turn on the room lights, then he headed toward Li Wei, who was facing away from him.
Li Wei moved slightly, as though he heard something. Lu Hao approached him and finally saw his face. Ugly did not even begin to cover it. His eyeballs were completely white, his face was falling off, while black and green veins cross-crossed his cheek. He threw his mouth wide open and tried to lunge at Lu Hao.
However, he was cuffed and locked to a chair right now, so he could not move. All he could do was try and stretch his neck and head as far as he could go.
“Li Wei” had well and truly become a zombie. He had exactly the same zombie traits Su Jin had warned Lu Hao about outside the cell. That meant the apocalypse Su Jin had told him about was real!
