Chapter 37: Love at First Sight (1)

He looked up at Lu Weixi, who was enjoying her meal. Somewhere in the haze of his mind, he seemed to recall calling her by her nickname, ‘Xixi’, when he was drunk. The thought made him frown and his hand tilted as the porridge in his spoon spilled out.

Lu Weixi was a little surprised when she saw what had happened. Even though Qin Zhiyou could be tough, his behavior had always been that of an elegant young master. It was not often one would see him this out of character.

Perhaps the work that Secretary Wang had reported was troublesome. She seemed to have heard that Qin Zhiyou was eying a piece of mountainous land in the northern countryside of Yan City, and that he had plans to build a resort there. But his uncle and aunt were strongly against it and had been secretly working against him.

Qin Zhiyou, who was seated across from her, had his head hung low and was carefully cleaning the spoon with a tissue. It was like he was an ancient swordsman cleaning his prized sword. Auntie Hao came over and helped him clean up the spilled porridge. She served it again after cleaning things up, and Qin Zhiyou ate at an even slower pace.

Eyes drawn to the clock, Lu Weixi was getting even more anxious, but she knew Qin Zhiyou’s personality, so she dared not hurry him. All she could do was wait for him to slowly finish his meal, wipe his mouth with the tissue and wash it down with tea. When he was finally done eating, he headed upstairs, but thankfully not for long this time. He had only gone up to retrieve a document from the study.

Lu Weixi waited, resisting the urge to tap her fingers on the table. After Qin Zhiyou came downstairs, he did not say anything nor did he look at her. He headed straight for the car. Lu Weixi caught up with him, but Qin Zhiyou stopped by the side of the car and gave Secretary Wang some instructions on his thoughts on the work that had just been reported.

Lu Weixi was going crazy.

Can’t he just talk about this in the car?

She checked her phone again. It was 8.45 am. If they did not leave then she wouldn’t even make it on time for her 10 am meeting. She might as well call herself a cab. Tapping open the application, it was futile. The Xishan villa area was full of the rich, and everyone had their own cars. None of the cars of the app would be here.

Just as she was about to lose her mind, Qin Zhiyou was finally done talking. Lu Weixi was relieved and she followed him into the car. Qin Zhiyou pursed his lips and frowned deeply when he saw her. She knew that expression.

What are you doing here?

Secretary Wang was the one who helped her out. “Young Madam helped to bring you back when you were drunk. Her car is parked back at the firm.”

“En,” Qin Zhiyou murmured, not saying anything else. He looked down at the documents by his hand. Lu Weixi did the same. She would be just in time for the meeting later, so she had to take the time to prepare the documents. Both of them looked down at their respective documents, not bothering one another.

As the car traveled, Qin Zhiyou glanced at her from the corner of his eye. Her lashes were trembling, and her crimson lips were moving, as if she were silently reading the documents on her hand. Judging from her calm expression, she probably did not know that he called her by her nickname last night.

If they went directly to her firm, they might run into her colleagues or clients. Just as he was deep in thought, Secretary Wang spoke up. “Young Madam, we’ve almost arrived.”

Qin Zhiyou immediately sat up straight, pretending that nothing had happened.

“I’ll alight here.”

They were a block away from the company, so Lu Weixi asked Secretary Wang to stop here. Just after she opened the door and alighted, she recalled something.

“Ah, the pill…”
