Childcare Diaries - Chapter 125
Chapter 125
Epilogue. Their stories that have not yet been told — 03 (END)
After having the strange dream about the dragon, Marie somehow felt good. However, she felt that her body was different from usual as her body was full of heat, and she was dizzy. Sometimes she felt nauseous.
Nonetheless, she was not worried even though it was clear that there was something wrong with her body that she did not know why. Rather, she was full of anticipation as she swept her stomach.
Still, unlike her, there was a person whose complexion gradually deteriorated.
It was Kentrail.
Although she did not tell him about her condition, he noticed her abnormality at once. Even though he said to call the doctor right away, Marie said it wasn’t serious and wanted to wait and see in a few days.
However, even after time passed, her physical condition was still the same.
“It would be good to call the doctor as well.”
“Wait a little longer. I think I know why.”
Saying so, Marie gazed at him with a smile as Kentrail fretted and couldn’t keep his hand still. He placed his hand on her forehead and then ran it over his own, measuring the heat and sighing over and over again.
‘Let’s wait a few days… I’ll call the doctor after I’m a little more certain.’
While she felt sorry for him fussing over her, there was a reason for her stubbornness.
“Yes. Then, you can call the doctor later as you wish, but you’d better take a break from work.”
He asked her to stay in bed all day, emphasizing absolute stability.
“How can I do that? How many documents do I have to do?”
“I know very well how much you are needed for your welfare work. Still, you come first for me. I’ll tell you if there’s anything urgent, so just lie down for now.”
As he spoke in a pleading tone, she forced herself to nod her head.
“And Brielle and Ellie are prohibited from entering this room today.”
“What?”
“I will take care of the children, so you watch yourself, too.”
Although they were already grown enough to find something to do on their own, they still looked like babies in the eyes of the two, so they still used the expression of taking care.
“Alright.”
She smiled as Kentrail gazed down at her, full of concerns.
“Don’t smile like that.”
He lowered his head and kissed her affectionately on the cheek, with a face bearing displeasure at not being allowed to call the doctor.
“I’ll be back after work.”
Marie grinned as she watched him try to turn his hard-moving legs. She wished he could see her happy.
Three more days had passed since Marie lay in bed and had absolute rest. As Kentrail left, she hurried to get up but she slowed down.
‘…Let’s act slowly. Carefully.’
Unlike usual, she was even careful wearing her slippers before checking the calendar on the table. It was clear that she had skipped that day.
“Can you call the doctor without him knowing?”
Marie asked to bring the doctor through her new maid she got when she was married.
The maid, who was three or four years younger than her, nodded her head with eyes shining at her master’s words because she knew what had happened for her master to ask to bring the doctor in secretly like this.
Meanwhile, some of the maids, including the head maid, knew that Madam’s day hadn’t started and had doubts.
Showing how hastily the maid ran, the doctor arrived less than thirty minutes after getting called.
“What is the matter, Madam?”
“You must have come secretly?”
The doctor’s heart skipped a beat when asked if he had come without the Count’s knowledge, instead of answering his words. It was because she seemed to be calling him here because she was seriously ill.
If the Count saw the Countess lying there without waking up, he was seriously pondering whether he should quit his life as a doctor and run away.
“There’s nothing too serious.”
Fortunately, before he said he would quit, Marie spoke up first.
“Then…”
“You’ll have to examine me correctly, but…”
Her broad smile demanded that she be examined quickly. The doctor, who nodded his head with an effort, measured her slight fever and asked, with an expression as if he had suddenly realized something, when he asked when she had been like this and, in case, the frequency of her moon cycle.
“Maybe…”
He said he would bring in a gynecologist he knew well. Thirty minutes after he left, there was another doctor, and Marie was diagnosed with being pregnant.
“I will tell the Count, so keep it a secret.”
All the employees nodded at her request though they couldn’t help but smile on their cheeks. Marie was also congratulated and smiled happily.
‘Baby… Let’s meet in good health.’
Kentrail has been in a bad mood lately since Marie’s health was not good, and he couldn’t even call the doctor, so he was anxious. The knights and the officials noticed his change, who continued to be like a person walking on clouds after the marriage.
Even though they asked each other what had happened, no one knew, so they vaguely speculated that Kentrail might have had a couple fight.
‘If she doesn’t feel well by tomorrow, she’ll have to see a doctor no matter what.’
He was usually obedient to her words, but he couldn’t compromise on her health. On the other hand, looking at him like that, the butler had to work hard on managing his expression so as not to curl his lips.
‘A baby’s cry will spread here again.’
Thinking of Brielle’s childhood, he glanced around in amazement at the laughter that leaked out. Fortunately, the master, lost in my thoughts, did not seem to have heard, but the knight and the aide next to him looked at him strangely.
The butler made a sign that they would all look the same this evening, slipped away, and was ordered by the Madam not to let Kentrail into the bedroom until evening.
Kentrail frowned.
Although he wanted to go to Marie and check on her, the butler kept dragging him around. For example, he would suggest that they go to a sunny room located near the bedroom and decorate this place or round the corners of the mansion’s furniture.
It was only when Kentrail’s limit was filled that the butler let him go, saying that it was all over.
‘When did the butler, who was usually quick-witted, get so annoying?’
As he hurriedly hurried toward Marie’s bedroom, normally, a maid would be guarding the front of the bedroom, but today it was empty.
‘I’m sure she’s not wandering around.’
He opened the door, worried that she might be working too hard even though she was not feeling well. As expected, the dark room greeted him with the lights off.
“Whoo…”
He let out a sigh as to where she had gone. It was just as he was about to take a step, thinking he should go look for her soon, that a candle lit up in one corner of the room.
With that single light, Kentrail found where his loved one was.
“What were you doing with the lights off?”
Carefully approaching Marie, he took her hand, which did not hold a candle.
Instead of answering, she moved the candle to the lamp next to it and lit it. He followed her actions with his eyes and found an unknown object that seemed to have been set up by her. It was covered with cloth.
“I have something to show you.”
Seeing a bewildered expression on his face, Marie smiled cutely, grabbed his hand, and headed towards the object.
“Come and see.”
Kentrail then smiled at the feeling of déjà vu. It was because he seemed to know what event she had prepared.
He watched Marie slowly peel the cloth.
There was a portrait of what he believed to be himself.
“Did you draw it?”
“Yes. I couldn’t capture the real thing, but…”
As Marie laughed, blurring her words, he raised his hands and covered his eyes.
“Is it that bad?”
Wondering if he didn’t like her picture enough to cover her eyes, Marie quickly lowered his hand and studied his expression.
However, his eyes were watery.
“Ha… that can’t be.”
He hugged her tightly. Hoping that his ardent heart would be delivered to her.
“Was the reason why your body wasn’t feeling well because you were overdoing yourself by drawing?”
“No… it was for another reason. I called the doctor today.”
At that, Kentrail quickly pulled away from her and looked at her.
“Why? Is something wrong…?”
When she could feel the nervousness in his trembling voice, Marie hugged him again before opening her mouth.
“No. Calm down… it’s because a blessing had come to us.”
“A blessing…”
Kentrail frowned as if he couldn’t guess.
“Because we have another baby.”
Marie thought that Brielle was the first baby that came between them, so she described the baby in her womb as another baby.
“No way…”
Kentrail’s eyes widened. He then asked again in disbelief.
“…Are you pregnant?”
“Yes.”
She knew how happy he was by the vibrations in his body. He raised Brielle well, so he would be very fond of and love this baby very much.
“Ha… Thank you.”
Muttering to himself, the moisture in his eyes seemed to have moved to his voice this time. Marie patted him on the shoulder.
“No way… the butler suddenly wanted to decorate the room…”
“It’s probably right.”
It was only then that Kentrail, who understood his strange behavior, smiled. At the same time, even though she liked seeing him cry happily because of her, she also liked the way he smiled the most.
“Let’s be good parents.”
“Of course. I’ll do my best.”
Kentrail kissed Marie lightly on the forehead.
“Cough cough.”
Since when was he here?
The butler cleared his throat through the open door just before their lips met this time. Behind him were the children huddled together.
“Congratulations, uncle and Marie.”
Brielle was the first to congratulate Marie and Kentrail as he looked at them before he approached them and handed them pretty flowers. Subsequently, Ellie and Barry also gave the same flowers with the words of congratulations.
“Thank you, everyone.”
Marie greeted her with a choked voice and then hugged the children.
Meanwhile, Kentrail gazed at the scene for a while, then stretched out his arms and hugged everyone.
⌊Brother, a pretty baby has finally come to me, too.
If brother was still alive, you would have been more happy than anyone else. I looked in the mirror these days and thought about that.
As much as the joy reflected in my eyes, brother must have been happy when he had Brielle. I’d say you must have been very happy. I thought I felt all the happiness that came from children while raising Brielle, but another blessing came to us like this…
Brielle was so happy that he couldn’t take his eyes off Marie’s stomach for days. He was already insisting that he would read a fairy tale.
Such a splendid time has come to our mansion, but there were times when I shed tears without even realizing it.
…I think it was because I thought of brother taking care of me when I saw Brielle already taking care of the baby.
I think I cry more than pregnant Marie these days.
If brother saw me, I thought you must have teased me for being a crybaby. Still, I’d make sure I wouldn’t cry anymore. For the rest of it, I wanted to cry when I got older and met brother.
I would call you like when I was young.
Brother, I missed you a lot today as well. ⌉
