Chapter 758: Chapter 758: Rumors Cannot be Trusted
Tracy Swift was filled with indignation. She was a noble lady of the Imperial City, and had grown up amidst everyone’s praises. She was proficient in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting by the age of six. Since the beginning, she had been the gold medalist. She was a graceful and well-behaved woman, whom everyone felt was perfect. However, ever since she met Xaviera Evans, things had gone awry. Xaviera had kept her down, and she was not able to regain her momentum. Why?
“Xaviera, you’ve destroyed everything! I should have been the most dazzling presence. It’s all because of you, you…”
Slap!
Xaviera raised her hand and forcefully slapped Tracy, interrupting her. She then coldly stared at Tracy. “You’re too noisy!”
“Ah! You…did you hit me?”
“Tracy, I’ve warned you before. My patience has limits. I can tolerate you once or twice, but don’t go overboard.” Xaviera gently stroked the painting with her slender fingers, icily declaring: “It was you who stole my painting, and now you blame me for destroying everything. Please figure out who the real victim is!”
Tracy covered her sizzling cheek, fuming with anger. She raised her hand to slap Xaviera, but it was abruptly caught by Xaviera.
Xaviera violently shook her hand, and Tracy, teetering on her high heels, fell straight to the floor. Biting her lip out of hatred, she exclaimed, “Xaviera! I won’t let you go! Just you watch!”
Struggling to get up from the ground, Tracy ran away in disgrace.
Xaviera snorted coldly. She wanted to see what tricks Tracy had up her sleeve, and she was ready to face it all!
“Xaviera, pay attention to your gentle and fragile facade!” said Albert Sullivan from the doorway with a smile on his face. “Didn’t I give you the poison? You should have poisoned her directly so there would be no more quarrels.”
Xaviera shook her head; she was not one to resort to poison unless absolutely necessary.
“I just passed by Lester Bank’s office and heard something interesting. I recorded it for you.” Albert handed over a recorded pen to her.
After listening to a few sentences, Xaviera immediately understood the content of the recording. She was not surprised at all. “I had guessed it long ago. Generally, an artist’s style is hard to change. But Lester’s style changes every few years. This so-called oil painting master has kept his footing in the oil painting world by riding on others’ works. How ridiculous!”
The idea of accepting apprentices was merely a cover. Lester’s real goal was to find someone to ghostwrite for him.
After Albert left, Xaviera’s phone suddenly rang. After she answered the call, a gentle voice came through. “Hello, is this Miss Hayin?”
After a moment’s hesitation, Xaviera responded: “Yes.”
The voice on the other side was a bit excited. “Miss Hayin, I am a staff member of the International Oil Painting Exhibition. The exhibition is to be held in Libanan. We heard that you are now living in Libanan. We would like to know if you would like to attend this exhibition.”
Xaviera declined: “I’m sorry, but I don’t want to go.”
The clerk choked, then said gently, “Many artists will be participating in this exhibition. Mr. Lester Bank will be one of them, and so will… Mr. Cold Night.”
Cold Night?
Xaviera paused for a moment, “Are you sure Cold Night will be there?”
Cold Night was already in his later years, and yet he was visiting Libanan to participate in an exhibition. It was a rare opportunity for her to meet her idol. Who knows when she would get the next chance? After all, he was already old and who knew how much longer he had to live.
After Xenia Jaak’s birthday party concluded, Xaviera hurried back to Lowen Clubhouse. She excitedly relayed the good news to Caleb Mamet.
At that time, Caleb was in his study reviewing paperwork. He just smiled faintly at her words and resumed his calm demeanor. He just nodded, “Hmm.”
Xaviera was visibly thrilled, “Senior fellow, it must have been a while since you saw Mr. Cold Night, right? This time, you have to get a picture with him. When my grandfather comes back, I will show him the picture, he will certainly be envious!”
Caleb lifted his eyes slowly and smiled warmly. “Sure.”
If your grandfather knew you had married Cold Night, he would certainly be even happier.
“But, isn’t he too old to travel to Libanan to participate in an exhibition? I don’t know if his body can withstand it,” Xaviera frowned, “I’ve heard that Cold Night hasn’t been out for many years just because his health isn’t too good. This time, he’s come all the way to Libanan. What if it tires him out and worsens his health?”
“Cough, cough….” Caleb, who was drinking coffee, suddenly choked and his face turned red. He quickly explained, “No, there won’t be an issue. Cold Night is actually in very good health; don’t believe the rumours.”
