Chapter 60
“Faster? I’ve never driven Limbo so fast.”
“Ha… You can take the key and follow me.”
Vroom, vroom, vrooom! As Noel pressed the button of the key with a relaxed expression while exclaiming, ‘Turbo driving!’, the horse shot forward like an arrow.
Sylvia’s jaw dropped at the sight. She then came to her senses, grabbed the reins tightly, and followed Noel, shouting the same thing.
“Turbo driving!”
Vroom, vroom, vroooom!!!
Limbo’s eyes flashed red at Sylvia’s words, and they began to follow Noel frantically and quickly with a roar. Sevis grabbed Sylvia by the waist, surprised by the tremendous speed. A strong wind hit the two on the cheeks without mercy.
It was so fast that the leather bangs hanging on either side of Limbo rose.
Zoom-!
“Dear heavens!”
Zoom-!
“This reckless horse is going to run over someone!”
The two speeding horses ran through the middle of the village at a crazy speed. Exactly like outlaws. As the two horses passed by them in an instant with a loud noise, the scene of the passers-by stepping back with an exclamation and falling on their butts passes by quickly. Sevis, who was holding tightly onto Sylvia from behind, shouted loudly with excitement while facing the wind hitting his mouth.
“Whaat aa greaat speeed. It’s craazy!! I’m freee! I feeel aan infiinite freeedom, Miss Syylviaa!”
“It’s iincreediblee. Liimbo, youu aare thee beest! You’ree reeally supeerb!”
Limbo caught up with Noel’s foreign horse at a crazy speed, and then both of them went turbo-driving together.
Immediately, the high-class foreign horses left the village and passed through the dense forest, knocking down the trees, and stepped lightly over the shallow river at a fast speed, as if overcoming gravity. In less than three hours, they stopped in front of an old-fashioned mansion.
Screeech!
Thanks to the turbo driving, the trip to Noel’s villa, which would have taken a full day, was completed within three hours. Sylvia sat dazedly in the saddle.
‘I heard that the rich pay for their time… this is what it meant…’
“Everyone, we have arrived. You have to come to your senses.”
At Noel’s words, Sylvia and Sevis stumbled down from the horse with their hair disheveled from the wind. It was like they teleported there.
‘By the way, is there no such thing as a teleportation portal in the game? Why did they bother to put turbo driving on a horse…’
A cool breeze passed over Sylvia’s dazed face. She didn’t realize they moved so far because they were running at a crazy speed, but the air had changed.
‘Does this area have autumn weather?’
It seemed that the weather had gotten slightly colder since they had come up to the northern area, so it meant they wouldn’t suffer from the heat while raiding the dungeon.
Sylvia, who was frantically fixing her disheveled hair caused by the turbo driving, looked around. A small mountain covered in colorful foliage surrounded the mansion from behind. Then, when she turned her head to the front door of the mansion, she saw a large stream and a marble bridge that they would have crossed, both of which she hadn’t seen while driving in turbo mode.
‘There’s a mountain in the back and a river in the front. As expected, rich people build their villas in the best spots.’
Surrounded by mountains and streams, Noel’s villa had an elegant and warm atmosphere that matched his image. In front of the villa were a cozy and well-adorned garden and a small fountain.
The butler, who was the villa manager, and the servants welcomed the group and carried the luggage they had attached to the saddle. Limbo and Noel’s horse were taken to the stable by the coachman. Following the servants, a gorgeous meal was prepared on a long table lined with white tablecloths, just in time for dinner. The tableware was all shiny, and she could feel the craftsmanship on each piece.
Sylvia looked around Noel’s luxurious mansion, where there was nothing that didn’t seem prestigious, and realized that he was the son of a rich family.
‘Mr. Noel’s family is more affluent than I thought. Luca is also rich. I feel sad that everyone in the game is rich except me. No, luckily, Sevis’ circumstances are no different from mine…’
Sylvia moved only her eyes to look at Sevis, who was sitting next to her with a reassured look on his face, and felt a sense of empathy.
“??”
When Sevis smiled at her gaze, which he didn’t know the reason for, she smiled softly and said it was nothing, then turned her head.
Before the meal, the middle-aged butler, who was the manager of the villa, suddenly came to Noel and stood beside him with tears in his eyes.
“Oh my… sob, sob… Young Master, have you been eating well lately? Why did your face get so haggard?”
Sylvia glanced at Noel’s face. He looked fine, so why was he saying that?
‘He looks sacred and beautiful as usual… No, looking at it closely, his face looks a little worse than when I first met him… Have I been pushing him too hard lately?’
She narrowed her eyes and looked at Noel’s face. When she looked closely, she could see that small dark circles had appeared on the white jade-like face that was free of any blemishes. The energy that had been well preserved all his life has been sucked in the past few days, so his body had grown weak. Noel smiled gently at the middle-aged butler, who was wiping his tears by pressing a handkerchief around his eyes, and answered.
“Don’t worry, Mister. I’m eating better than ever. Whatever it is, I’m eating a lot.”
When he finished speaking, he turned his head and looked quietly at Sylvia, giving her an eye smile. Seeing that, Sylvia felt her face heat up for some reason, so she hurriedly picked up a fork and scooped up the salad in front of her, and put it into her mouth.
‘Is he saying the thing he is eating well is me? Oh my… He’s sly… I really like that.’
Sylvia tried to restrain the corners of her mouth from rising on their own. If it wasn’t for Sevis next to her, she would have sent the butler away, thrown all the food from the table to the floor, and rolled around with Noel. It was unfortunate.
Unaware of the atmosphere between the two, Sevis said politely, “Thank you for the food!” and started eating deliciously. Noel also smiled softly, prayed over the meal, and picked up the spoon.
After the pleasant meal, Sylvia’s group moved to the spacious and colorful terrace. As she enjoyed the teatime, eating freshly baked high-end cookies and drinking a fragrant herbal tea, Sylvia felt that her game possession was finally paying off.
‘Wouldn’t it be great to start the game in a house like this? Instead of that beggar 1.5 rooms house that’s worse than Limbo’s stable… It would be great.’
As Sylvia and Sevis picked up the cookies and put them in their mouths without a break, Noel told them to eat as many as they wanted with a happy face, and that he would ask to bring more if those weren’t enough. While they were consuming all the cookies in the mansion, Noel called the middle-aged butler and inquired about the situation in the area.
“Has anything weird been happening lately?”
“Hm, I’m not sure… Ah, right! According to one of the maids, she has seen several suspicious people wearing cloaks shopping at the market recently. According to a merchant, the color of their faces looked a bit weird.”
“Hm… Did anything else happen?”
“Hmm… Come to think of it! The number of animals in the back mountain has decreased. Strange, isn’t it? You used to be able to find rabbits, deer, and wild boars grazing.”
“I see…”
Noel nodded, and the butler, who had been staring into the air for a moment, deep in thought, struck his palm with his fist as if remembering something.
“Ah! And above all! Sometimes there’s a weird note in the mailbox. Wait a moment.”
The butler called the maid and told her to bring the notes. The notes had symbols she didn’t know the meaning of, and languages she had never seen before, so she couldn’t guess what was written. It was a language that neither Sylvia, who could read books in the game world with a player buff, nor Noel could read.
“Is it the language of the monsters? What did the person who wrote this note want to say?”
“I wonder…”
The maid listened to them quietly and then spoke in a low voice.
“Young Master, there are rumors that similar notes are being spread throughout the village. According to the villagers, in the early morning hours, a group of unknown people leaves the notes in their homes.”
Noel and Sylvia looked at each other and swallowed a groan. What did this sequence of actions mean?
The maid lowered her head and carefully opened her mouth again.
“And I’m not sure, but… There are rumors that more and more villagers are disappearing without a word these days.”
Noel’s expression turned serious at her words.
“I guess I should contact the Combat Priesthood Association in the capital for advice.”
“The Combat Priesthood Association? What kind of association is that?”
“Contaminated monsters sometimes appear in the capital or border areas, and since those monsters are difficult to defeat with normal power, the Combat Priesthood Association exists to purify them. As I mentioned before, Elveus is the God of War, so all the priests in our temple are combat priests, and in the case of other temples, there are a small number of combat priests according to the Empire’s request. The temple we’re going to has been contaminated for a long time, so I’m going to ask a senior with a lot of combat experience for advice.”
“Hm… If there are combat priests, why did they leave the temple we’re going to contaminated?”
“The association that gathered the combat priests of each temple… is an institution of the imperial family. In other words, everyone in the association is affiliated with the imperial family. They are usually busy working as priests, so they don’t do anything the Emperor doesn’t tell them to do… That’s why it was left unattended.”
