Chapter 15 An Arranged Marriage in Childhood
Especially Jiang Min, the eldest daughter of Jiang Family, refused to marry into Gu Family before and finally married a duke’s son after careful selection. Unexpectedly, he died young of illness. Her title as the wife of a duke’s son was gone, while her half-sister born of a concubine became a mistress. Jiang Min was extremely indignant and often pulled a face before. Afterwards, Jiang Rou died of illness. Unexpectedly, she got on well with Ye, the second wife of Jiang Rou’s husband, and had more contact with her than with her own sister.
While Jiang Rou was at her last gasp, none of Jiang Family members came to visit her.
When Gu Huaian was thrown out of Gu Family, none of Jiang Family members came, either.
However, Jiang Min came with her family for a spring feast held by Ye. Gu Qiang sneered and her eyes were full of derision.
Changning returned after changing her clothes. She was used to her brother’s French leave. Seeing Gu Qiang look unhappy, she was about to ask when Jiang Min and her family were led by Ye to make a salute,
“Please allow me to bow in respect before Princess Changning.”
Jiang Min was just about thirty years old. Though without the title as the wife of a duke’s son, she was still the eldest mistress of Glory Mansion, so she still had an imposing manner. She was followed by her son Song Yun and her daughter Song Yu. They kneeled down with their mother in salute.
“Rise.”
Changning waved. Jiang Min showed her gratitude and rose slowly. Then she cast her eyes at Gu Qiang who was sitting by Changning and looked disdainful immediately, “Gu Qiang! How can you sit together with Princess? Apologize to Princess right now. How impolite you are! Do you forget the discipline?”
Changning got upset and retorted, “I ask Miss Gu to chat with me.”
“Princess, how generous you are!”
Jiang Min smiled fawningly at Changning instantly, but her remark was aimed at Gu Qiang, “But you may not know that this girl is mischievous and needs control and education, or she’ll make a fool of herself.”
But for seeing it by herself, she wouldn’t believe it’s true.
Would an aunt defame her niece before outsiders in this way?
However, Jiang Min took it for granted and smiled obsequiously at Changning. Seeing Gu Qiang sitting still and just looking at her coldly, she became furious and snapped in a low voice, “Come here! Apologize to Princess!”
Gu Qiang could hardly help sneering. She had known long before that all members of Jiang Family were mindless, but she hadn’t expect Jiang Min would be so stupid.
She was invited here by Princess Changning. How could she be bossed around by another one? It was against Princess Changning’s will.
Sure enough, Changning’s face darkened at once, “I invite Miss Gu here. Madam Song, you keep talking about discipline. Are you scolding me for being unreasonable?”
“Princess, please forgive me.”
Seeing that, Ye saluted smilingly and mediated, “Princess, my sister is rash and offends you. Please forgive her.”
While speaking, she cast her eyes at Gu Qiang suddenly and said meaningfully, “After all, it’s about children’s marriage. It’s inevitable for my sister to be anxious.”
“What?”
Changning was confused, “What marriage?”
Ye smiled more softly and glanced at Jiang Min. The latter took out a delicate jade pendant and gave a salute to Changning, “Princess, I had an arrangement with Qiang’s biological mother for the marriage between our children when they were very young. Today I come here with the token to propose the marriage to Gu Family especially.”
Even Gu Qiang was astonished, let alone Changning. It was against all her expectations that her aunt who always looked down upon her would allow her to marry her dearest son.
Gu Qiang thought it fun. She looked up and down at Jiang Min and found her slightly reluctant from her expression.
Indeed, Jiang Min hated to accept the daughter of that short-lived woman as her daughter-in-law. It didn’t mean that she didn’t want to build a relationship with Gu Family by marriage. But she preferred Gu Zhihua, Ye’s daughter. She was the daughter of the mistress of Gu Family, while Gu Qiang was not. Whenever seeing Gu Qiang, Jiang Min would think of her half-sister that was born of a concubine and thus disliked her intensely.
But…
Thinking of what Aunt Zhang serving Ye said the day before yesterday and Gu Qiang’s prospective dowry, Jiang Min forced herself to agree and apologies, “Princess, I misbehaved in front of you just now. I shouldn’t have behaved in that way. Please forgive me.”
Gu Qiang had a marriage arranged in childhood?
