Chapter 34 Record Important Things Only
Chui Xue felt sorry for Gu Qiang too and said in a low voice, “Right. Our lady has suffered so much, but Ye was still curious about the reason why you didn’t greet her today. She wouldn’t die even if you didn’t greet her!”
“How did you reply to her?” Gu Qiang put aside the money given by her brother and asked casually.
“We said you were not well and couldn’t go to greet her. Though her servant didn’t believe, she said nothing.” Ting Feng answered.
She was indeed a smart girl. Gu Qiang thought more and more highly of her.
Thanks to the excuse Ting Feng gave to Ye, no one came to bother Gu Qiang the whole day.
At dead of night, moonlight beamed through the window. Gu Qiang’s bed was surrounded by moonlight. The silver light flew slowly like water.
Gu Qiang turned over, but she couldn’t fall asleep. Then she got up, sat on a chair before the window, and opened her diary. She was clear that there would be nothing in it.
After turning two pages, Gu Qiang prepared ink and wrote, “Sleepless at dead of night.”
Before she finished writing, she found in surprise that what she wrote could appear in her diary.
It was like a dream. She rubbed her eyes to look carefully and found it was not a hallucination. Therefore, she became excited.
Then she continued to write down her doubts. For example, Shen Zhongbai proposed to her but she refused. Her brother didn’t go on a long journey and thus was safe and sound.
After writing down them, Gu Qiang felt good. On the way to change her fate, no one could help her or listen to her innermost thoughts. She could turn to nothing but the diary.
While Gu Qiang was in a daze, some words appeared suddenly in the originally blank diary: very good.
Was she here?
Gu Qiang laughed at once. This was a chance. When she wrote in the diary before, there was nearly no response. But now there was, so she must seize the opportunity.
Therefore, Gu Qiang wrote: what about my brother’s death?
Though Gu Qiang had prohibited Gu Huaian from going on a long journey, she wanted to know why he would die. Only if she knew it, could she make sure her brother was safe and sound?
For a long time, the diary lay on the desk silently. So did the words she wrote down. While Gu Qiang was staring at the diary, she could hear her heartbeat, but she received no response.
What was she thinking about on the other side?
When Gu Qiang was about to give up, a line of words appeared in slow motion in the diary. Though it was slightly scary, she was so excited that she almost jumped up.
“Unclear. Perhaps it was closely related to Shen Zhongbai and Shen Qianshan.”
Of course, Shen Zhongbai couldn’t dissociate himself from it, but Shen Qianshan? Gu Qiang thought of his face immediately.
Shen Qianshan had helped her for several times. She hadn’t written it down in the diary, so perhaps the other her didn’t know.
In fact, the two ones were both herself, but she thought it was a little embarrassing.
Gu Qiang didn’t answer. The diary kept moving, and another line of words appeared, “You will be attacked by disaster victims in three months and then lose your memory. You can’t be too careful!”
Disaster victims? What disaster victims? Gu Qiang had doubts, but she knew the woman with a chaplet and official robes had given her enough tips. She had to be self-dependent to deal with it.
Gu Qiang responded slowly: OK.
When Gu Qiang was about to close the diary, she thought of an important thing and thus wrote on it, “Why you can communicate with me today?”
In the past, when Gu Qiang wanted to write down something in the diary, there was nothing in the end. Today, she had nothing to do and just had a try. Unexpectedly, she received response.
The other one used a simple tone just like chatting.
“Perhaps because I don’t like to keep a diary. I only record the important things.”
Gu Qiang nodded. It was just like her. Before she sighed with emotion, one more line of words appeared: Empress Dowager got sick suddenly today.
Gu Qiang felt herself struck by lightning. It was true that Empress Dowager got sick today. Did she even know it?
Did it mean that only after something important happened would she receive response when she wrote in the diary?
Their dialogue ended. Gu Qiang closed the diary, put it under the bed and lied on the soft bed. She felt as if she would sink into it. It was so warm and comfortable that she became sleepy, but she tried her best to stop herself falling asleep.
She got some information from the diary.
Firstly, Shen Qianshan was not so nice as she imagined. Maybe he didn’t join the plan to kill Gu Huaian, but he was indispensable in it.
Secondly, there would be a disaster in three months. Then victims would attack her. She couldn’t imagine what the disaster would be.
Thirdly, she would lose her memory. If she was not attacked by disaster victims, she would not lose her memory. But she had to be prepared for that. She was afraid she would lose her memory, so she needed to tell her key memories to someone trustable. Even if she lost her memory, that person could be found later and tell what he or she knew. This was the best solution.
However, Gu Qiang knew few people around her were trustable. During the next three months, she had to make someone trustable.
After sorting out all information, Gu Qiang fell asleep. Her head was heavy, and she seemed to be pinned down.
Perching high over the palace, Empress Gu Qiang put the diary into her pocket, sat silently on the high wall of the palace, and swung her feet. The wind blew past her, but she didn’t feel cold at all. The wind brought a faint fragrance of pear blossom from nowhere.
The most terrible day would come in three months. Gu Qiang felt nervous and didn’t know what to do. If she lost her memory that day, everything would be in vain. What would wait for her?
Many memories had been engraved into her mind. What she experienced at the age of fifteen came to her mind. Something new was added to her memory at every moment.
Of course, she found she met the Ninth Duke that would die soon when she was fifteen years old. He even had a close relationship with her. It was unexpected. Gu Qiang didn’t know why it ended in this way.
It was good that she could make a new choice, because each different move would cause a different result. Gu Qiang respected her own choice at the age of fifteen.
That was because when she was fifteen, the choice she made was not so good as that made by the other her.
Now it was already late at night. Empress Gu Qiang got down from the wall. From an unknown point of time, her body had been like a ghost. But many things had happened around. The world was going forward steadily, but Gu Qiang wanted to occupy here.
There was no chance to live a new life. No matter what life is like, she had to move on.
In Fengqi Palace, a servant maid served tea. Empress used to fall asleep early, but recently she slept later and later for unknown reason. She always went out without reason or sat before the desk for the whole night as if waiting for someone.
The maid put tea on the desk and then intended to leave. Gu Qiang said coldly, “Bring Ling here.”
The maid responded and went away. Ling was a favorite and the right-hand woman of Empress. She wanted to see Ling now. Perhaps there was something important to be investigated by Ling.
Soon, the red agate curtain was pulled back. A pretty girl in black appeared behind Gu Qiang and gave her a salute respectfully.
“Investigate why my brother died.” Gu Qiang turned her back to Ling. Her expression was unclear. But Ling asked in a low voice, “Your Highness, it had been past for such a long time. Do you really want to investigate again? I don’t think it necessary.”
Gu Qiang was facing the window. The moonlight was as chilly as water outside the window, which made her feel cold in the heart.
“Someone wants to know. No matter how much information you can get, just do it, even there is only a little.” Then she stood up and walked out. Ling held her back and said, “Your Highness, it’s too late. If you go out now, there may be gossip.”
But Ling didn’t stop Gu Qiang successfully and had to watch her out.
In the Mansion of the Ninth Duke, Shen Qianshan was enjoying the moon on a chair. It was late, but he wasn’t sleepy at all.
Jin Ye appeared before Shen Qianshan and said seriously, “Your Highness, Empress drops by.”
Shen Qianshan turned around to look at Jin Ye, smiled and asked seriously, “My brother’s woman, Gu Qiang?”
Jin Ye nodded, “Yes.”
“Why?” Shen Qianshan was curious. Since she lost her memory, she had created all sorts of obstacles for him. Now she visited him suddenly. Was it because she felt guilty?
“Your Highness, will you see her or not?” Jin Ye asked.
Shen Qianshan didn’t know why Empress came out of the palace at midnight and visited a single duke. If others knew, it would make a great impact. But she was his sister-in-law, and he had to see her.
Then Shen Qianshan went to the main hall. Gu Qiang was sitting straight and waiting for him.
Shen Qianshan walked to Gu Qiang, saluted casually, and asked, “Your Highness, what brought you here at midnight?”
Gu Qiang heard the disdain in Shen Qianshan’s tone. He seemed to be talking to a stranger. It was inevitable. After she lost her memory, she did something against him and spoke ill of him before the king, hoping the king could attach great importance.
