Chapter 30: Wealthy Son-In-Law

Standing outside the study, Ye Anxin knocked on the door politely.

There was no response from inside.

Ye Anxin knocked again.

Still no response!

Realizing that he wasn’t going to respond, Ye Anxin said, “Mister, I didn’t mean what I said just now. Please don’t be angry with me. I came up here to apologize to you. Will you let me in?”

The answer to her was still silence.

Knowing that Mu Beiting was fuming with rage in the study, Ye Anxin continued, “Mister, I promise that I will never blabber nonsense again. Don’t take what I said seriously, I was just rambling. Can you just let it go, all right?”

There was still no response from the study.

Ye Anxin bit her lower lip and looked at the closed door for a while. Seeing that the person inside was still being unresponsive, she left and walked toward her room.

While walking away, she looked back. She was hoping that Mu Beiting would suddenly come out.

Unfortunately, even when she returned to her room and closed the door, there was still no response at all from the study next door.

Suddenly feeling a little annoyed, Ye Anxin sighed helplessly.

Her relationship with Mu Beiting had finally eased up a bit, but, in the end, he had returned to his original negative state because of her one offhand remark.

It was really exhausting to try to get along with people like Mu Beiting, who didn’t like to communicate.

She never knew what he was thinking, since he always had that same expression whether he was angry or happy. He always had people guessing what was going on in his mind.

Sometimes, she was really impressed by Pete and the butler. Every time they dealt with him, Mu Beiting didn’t even need to speak for them to immediately understand his intentions and execute them right away.

She didn’t know when she would be able to develop that ability.

At that moment, the phone in her jeans pocket rang.

Ye Anxin took out her phone, glanced at the caller ID, and picked up the call. “Hey mom, what’s the matter?”

Mother Ye’s voice could be heard from the other end of the phone, “Anxin, a man named Pete came to us just now and said he was taking your luggage.”

Ye Anxin remembered that she had just asked Pete to pick up her luggage without even a phone call beforehand to her parents. So she hurriedly explained, “Uh, huh, that’s right. He’s a friend of mine. You pack my luggage, and then let him bring it over.”

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, and then Mother Ye lowered her voice to speak in a whisper, “My dear Anxin! Who is he? His outfit doesn’t seem cheap to me. Your dad just looked out the window, and he was driving a car. When did you get to know this person? What is your relationship with him?”

“Mom…!” At a loss for words, Ye Anxin stroked her forehead.

Upon seeing that she was remaining silent, Mother Ye said earnestly, “My dear Anxin. Although our family is poor, we must maintain our dignity in spite of our poverty. Don’t do anything you’ll regret. Chastity is the most important thing that a woman has.”

As soon as Mother Ye had finished speaking, Father Ye’s voice yelled out, “Anxin, don’t listen to your mother. If that man is rich, you must cling on to him tightly without letting go. Mu Rufeng is a lost cause now, so you have to find me another wealthy son-in-law no matter what.”

Listening to Father Ye’s voice, Ye Anxin lamented inside.

To her father, money was more important than anything else. As long as she could give him wealth and glory, it didn’t matter if she sacrificed her happiness.

Mother Ye said immediately, “Anxin, don’t listen to your dad blabbering nonsense. To a girl, happiness is the most important thing. As long as you live a happy life, it doesn’t matter whether you have money or not. Mom doesn’t care about riches. I just hope you can marry a decent man.
