Chapter 29: Ambush and Kill

After a while, Chen Shouyi finally let the shell girl off. She had been showered with so much praise that she seemed as if she was drunk.
He stood up and stretched.
Suddenly, his body stiffened and his eyes contracted fiercely.
Unknowingly, a canoe had appeared on the surface of the sea in the distance. There were two barbarians on it, and they kept on rowing, appearing to be heading toward him.
“Barbarians!”
He returned to his senses and quickly lowered himself to hide.
Ever since his body had been modified, his vision had also improved tremendously. Right now, although the canoe was still over one kilometer away from where he was, he could still see it clearly.
This canoe was quite big. Chen Shouyi reckoned that its width should be about four to five meters, and its length was about ten meters.
He could imagine how massive the tree must have been.
The two barbarians had a beast hide wrapped around their waist, and their upper body was fully bare. Chen Shouyi didn’t see if they were bringing along any weapons, but their tanned, muscular body clearly showed how strong they were.
His heart beat intensely and his breathing quickened. The terror in his heart made him shiver slightly.
Ever since the bloody incident at the bookstore, especially after having heard that even a senior martial practitioner like Zhou Shaofeng had lost his life, Chen Shouyi had been engulfed by terror. Although he knew that not all barbarians were that strong, he would subconsciously treat them as if they were the same as that particular barbarian.
“I can’t continue to wait here anymore. I have to report the space channel before they can get to Earth.”
Chen Shouyi quickly stuffed the books and miscellaneous stuff into his briefcase. He then grabbed the shell girl, who was still in a daze, and quickly ran toward the space channel’s entrance.
After a few steps, he returned to the underground parking lot, and he continued to run crazily outside.
However, he gradually slowed down his footsteps. When he was almost reaching the parking lot’s exit, he stopped.
He seemed to have a strong impulse that surged up in his mind, making his blood seethe a little.
Was he really going to give up on this space channel just like that?
Give up on the golden sand on the island?
All because of the sudden appearance of two barbarians whose strength was unknown?
Right now, his body attributes had reached the level of a martial practitioner and weren’t far off from that of barbarians.
Moreover, it might not be that their strength was unknown.
Chen Shouyi was suddenly struck with an idea. He looked to the left and right, walked quickly to the wall, leaned against it, and with a single thought, rapidly entered the gray foggy space. He instantly saw the two barbarians on the canoe through the memory leaf.
…
Not long later, he opened his eyes.
He could sense that these two barbarians’ bodies were a lot stronger than his. However, there was a limit to how much stronger they were, likely to be not over 1.5 times his strength. They were far weaker compared to the mysterious barbarian at the bookstore.
He immediately felt a lot braver. It wasn’t as if he couldn’t fight against them if he was a little careful!
His heart beat intensely, and his expression was that of a struggle. This time around, it wasn’t sparring, but a real life or death battle. However, at the thought of having to give up on this island and the gold, he clenched his teeth fiercely and ran toward the space channel.
He planned on checking out the concrete situation before waiting for a chance to make a move.
The moment he entered the Otherworld, he immediately picked up a wooden rod that was on the ground.
This wooden rod wasn’t the thick one he had picked up at the construction site previously. This was the one that had been slowly pared down with a knife after he had chopped off a small tree here. It was as tough as steel.
Although it didn’t have a sharp tip, as long as his speed was fast enough, it would be impossible to fend it with the physical body.
He leaned amongst the grass and looked toward that canoe.
Right now, they had already gotten close to the island, and after ten minutes, they finally arrived on the beach.
Jumping off from the canoe, the two barbarians pulled out a rope that was as thick as an arm. They walked to a huge boulder and tied the rope around the boulder to prevent the canoe from being washed away by the tides.
The two barbarians looked at this island and appeared very happy, talking and laughing out loud occasionally. They turned back to the canoe and took out something that resembled a leather bag. Then, they quickly headed for the mountain.
Chen Shouyi noticed that they didn’t carry any weapons with them. This was undoubtedly good news for him.
However, it also meant that this wasn’t the first time they had come to this island. As barbarians who were still living in the desolate tribal era, it was a must for them to be on guard against danger in an unfamiliar environment.
If it wasn’t because they were clear that there was no danger here, they wouldn’t be so careless.
However, another question popped up in Chen Shouyi’s mind.
Why did they come here?
He looked at the leather bag that seemed as if it was used to store water and entered deep into thought. He then glanced at the small pool that was over 100 meters away.
Could they be here to collect drinking water?
The more he thought about it, the more he felt it was possible. This pool was the only source of water on this island. The circumference of the pool was over ten meters, but it was extremely deep. It was impossible to see the bottom at one glance. To be on the safe side, Chen Shouyi would never choose to get close to it under normal circumstances. Even if he was thirsty, he would drink the mineral water he brought with him.
If there was any place that could be the barbarians’ objective, it would be this pool.
He took in a deep breath, put the shell girl to one side, and then grabbed the wooden rod. He hid himself amongst the grass, lowered his body, and gently but quickly moved toward the pool.
Half a minute later, he squatted down once again.
Chen Shouyi’s judgment was right. These barbarians seemed to only be here to collect water.
The two of them appeared very familiar with the way, chatting as they came over.
The barbarians’ image didn’t fit humans’ aesthetics perception. At the very least, these two barbarians appeared very rough and ugly that it was hard for one to look them in the eye.
One of them was slightly older, and there were traces of wrinkles on his forehead. His yellowed teeth were slightly bulging outward, and his nose was very high.
The other one was a man in his youth who had a pair of inward-looking eyes. His face seemed as if it had been hit by a brick and was completely flat.
The two of them didn’t have their guard up at all. Probably, neither of them would have expected that there was someone lying in ambush on this desolate island, amongst the grass, waiting to take their lives.
It took them only a few minutes to arrive at the pool.
They immediately squatted down and started to fill up their container with water.
Chen Shouyi, who was filled with killing intent, didn’t consider the plan of letting them leave after they had obtained the water. The island wasn’t big, only about one square kilometer. One would be able to see the entire island just by standing at the top of the mountain.
Considering that they had come to collect water today, they might come again in a few days and might even bring more people here. If he wasn’t careful, they might be able to sneak up on him, and he’d be in danger then.
He’d either have to give up on this island or get rid of these two barbarians, eliminating the roots of his troubles. These were the only two options that he had.
“Now’s the time!”
His heart beat intensely, and he experienced an adrenaline rush. Even his eyes were a little bloodshot. Suddenly, his gaze turned serious, and he stomped down hard on his feet, darting out rapidly from his hiding place like an arrow off a bow.
He crossed over ten meters in just a few steps.
The older barbarian seemed to have noticed something and turned to look behind.
He saw a wooden rod rapidly getting closer before his eyes. At the next moment, it quickly pierced through his throat. However, the wooden rod’s attack didn’t stop. It broke his neck and came thrusting out from his back.
Chen Shouyi didn’t tap on terror at all. The entire process happened at the speed of lightning, and it was too fast for the barbarian to react. It was only at this moment that the younger barbarian reacted. He let out an enraged bellow and pounced fiercely toward Chen Shouyi.
Chen Shouyi was abnormally calm, not showing any signs of panic for his first battle. He drew out the wooden rod from the barbarian’s throat and retreated agilely.
The barbarian missed and his body paused slightly. He wasn’t able to make any other actions.
An impeccable Bow Stance Pierce was performed, and the wooden rod shot out at lightning speed, piercing through the barbarian’s chest.
Chen Shouyi didn’t have any intention of stopping on the spot. After the target was hit, he rapidly drew back his sword.
The wound on the barbarian’s chest was about the thickness of a baby’s arm, and a tremendous amount of blood spurted out.
However, this was insufficient to take his life immediately.
He let out a furious bellow, his voice like that of thunder, and he wore a ferocious expression. He didn’t give a damn about his wound and charged at Chen Shouyi.
However, the barbarian had just taken a few steps when he started to move slower and slower. Finally, he couldn’t hang on anymore and slowly dropped to his knees.
The entire battle only took several seconds from the beginning to the end.
Of course, if it was a real battle, the two barbarians wouldn’t have been defeated so easily.
One reason was that they didn’t have any weapons on them. Another reason was that the event had taken place too suddenly, catching them off guard.
…
Chen Shouyi heaved a sigh of relief and sat down on the grass.
His hands were trembling uncontrollably.
He had been fully focused during the battle, not having any distracting thoughts at all. The only thing on his mind had been to kill. However, now that he came back to his senses, he felt a sense of terror.
He felt as if he had changed into a different person earlier, showing no hint of hesitation, struggle, or horror. Even he found it a little unbelievable that there was such a violent side of him in the depths of his heart.
He had no private feud with these two barbarians, only a conflict of interests.
Their existence had blocked his path!
There might have been some influence from publicity, where the barbarians’ image on Earth was no different from that of devils. Each time they appeared, they would be related to massacres and bloodshed. On the first glance of seeing them, other than escaping, the only other thought on his mind was to kill them.
He gradually returned to his senses. They were just two barbarians. So what if he had killed them? He didn’t continue to think too much into it.
He stood up, his mind rapidly calming down.
Sometimes, the fear one felt after killing someone wasn’t from the killing itself, but from the consequences after having killed. On this island in the Otherworld, no one would be able to notice anything even if two humans were to die, let alone if they were barbarians.
However, there was a need for him to deal with these two corpses. Putting aside the fact that they would rot and start to stink up, if other barbarians were to come, he’d be able to throw them off their track to a certain degree.
He walked up, lifted up the corpses, and headed down the mountain with heavy footsteps.
The canoe was still at the spot it was tied to.
He walked into the seawater and placed the corpses onto the wide canoe. It was possible to squeeze over ten people on it.
Then, he found several tens of saltwater fish of varying sizes on it. There was also a roughly made fishing net, two oars, and a few pieces of black food that looked like potatoes. Lastly, he found two long lances.
Chen Shouyi couldn’t help but feel fortunate when he saw these two lances. If the two barbarians had brought along their weapons with them at the beginning, the battle wouldn’t have been this easy.
He took two trips to move both corpses onto the canoe and then untied the ropes. He took the opportunity when the tides came in and used all his strength to push the canoe into the sea.
It wasn’t as if he didn’t know that the canoe and the two corpses on it would be hidden threats.
However, the canoe was too big and too heavy. And it was very hard to destroy the trace of the corpses. If he were to leave them here, it’d only be even more dangerous.
He watched as the canoe gradually drifted further and further away.
He prayed silently in his heart, hoping that the matter would end right here, and that there wouldn’t be any more complications.
…
He watched for a very long time and then let out an exhale. Grabbing onto the two long lances, he turned and headed back.
When he got to the spot near to the space channel’s entrance where he had been, he realized that the shell girl had disappeared.
He broke out into cold sweat.
Previously, his blood had been seething and he was fully focused. When he ran over to lay ambush near the pool, he didn’t remember to tie up the shell girl again and only tossed her aside casually.
She had clearly taken the opportunity to escape.
