Deadly Doting Marriage - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
John’s voice was deep and cold, sending a shudder through her.
Although he did not give her a huge amount of pocket money, he offered her food and a roof over her head. She had a driver who drove her to school and picked her up after her classes as well. Even if she needed money, she could have asked him for it. There was no need for her to work part-time in the bar.
Kathleen explained, “I’m here to cover Nancy’s shift. She couldn’t make it to work today.”
John snorted coldly and forcefully dragged her to the car.
Kathleen slightly closed her eyes as she thought, ‘It seems like I won’t be able to cover Nancy’s shift tonight.
‘Will Nancy get fired by her employer? Her family has financial difficulties, she needs the money so that her grandma can receive medical treatment.’
John harshly threw her into the car and ordered, “Go back to the villa!”
The driver answered respectfully, “Yes, Young Master!”
An uncomfortable silence ruled the atmosphere of the car as it moved slowly on the road.
John was sitting on the other end of the seat from Kathleen. Neither of them spoke at all.
When John glanced up at Kathleen, she turned her head away. He could only see the back of her head.
The fury in his heart grew even stronger. He caught her hand in his and yelled, “Don’t ever cover shift for anyone else again!”
Kathleen’s face was white, but she stubbornly refused to answer.
“Did you hear me?”
“I did!”
The car finally arrived at the villa. John dragged her upstairs, tore off the uniform and tossed it into the trash can. Then, he threw her into the bathtub, turned on the tap and said coldly, “Clean yourself up!”
His heart ached with anger as he closed the bathroom door with a bang. ‘She’s so obstinate.’
His face went livid, his thin lips tightly pressed together.
‘She’s thinking of serving other people? She can only be my servant for the rest of her life! There’s no chance I’ll let her serve other people!’
After cleaning up herself, Kathleen quietly put on her pajamas and went back to her room to rest.
She went to school early in the morning the next day. When she saw Nancy, she said apologetically, “Nancy, I’m sorry. Last night…”
“Don’t worry about it. My boss told me everything. He said you’d offended John Lambert, and he chopped off the customer’s hand in the bar…Oh my God, Kathy, are you alright? How did you run into him? He’s a devil. Did he give you a hard time?”
“No, he just told me not to work in the bar.”
“Kathy, I’m sorry, it was inconsiderate of me. I forgot that John Lambert raised you,” Nancy said, guilt-ridden.
Kathleen did not say anything upon hearing that, her lips tightened into a thin line.
“Don’t be sad, Kathy. It’s over now. My boss said I’ll be fine as long as I give a special performance tonight!”
“Special?”
“Like singing or dancing.”
“I see.” Kathleen breathed out a sigh of relief.
Nancy said smilingly, “You know I’m good at singing and dancing! This is a piece of cake!”
Kathleen was relieved to hear that. “That’s great.”
“Can you come with me?”
Kathleen’s eyes were flickering as she recalled what the butler told her in the morning. He told her to go home by herself as John would go to Crafield with Karl Jordan for a social engagement.
Usually, the driver would pick her up after classes. However, he had to go with John whenever he went on a business trip.
In that case, she would be able to go out at night.
Kathleen glanced up at Nancy and nodded her head. “Okay, I’ll come with you later at night.”
A beaming smile spread across Nancy’s face. “Love you, Kathy!”
The dreamy night came. The moon cast a bright light over the ground, glimmering with a cold light.
Inside the bar were all cocktails and bright lights, glamorous and captivating as usual.
Since the incident the day before was done by John, nobody dared criticize him.
John was known for his brutality. Those who had the guts to provoke him would come to a bad end, so the residents in Hillford had already gotten used to it.
Since there was a performance tonight, the crowd was noisier and even more boisterous than usual.
Nancy had put on delicate makeup backstage and changed into a sexy gown. She walked up to Kathleen and turned around to show her the dress. “Kathy, do I look pretty today?”
The fishtail dress accentuated Nancy’s slender but curvy figure perfectly. The long dress draped gracefully over her figure, making her look even more dazzling than ever.
Kathleen genuinely complimented her, “You look stunning!”
Her words put a smile on Nancy’s face. She took Kathleen’s hand in hers and went out.
The hall was crowded with people. Wild cheers broke out amongst the crowd when Nancy walked onstage.
“Today, I’m going to sing a song for you all!”
“Great!” A thunderous cacophony of applause rolled across the bar.
Nancy cleared her throat, opened her mouth, and started singing.
“… You accompany me for a journey, I will miss you for life… Thanks for once having brightened my days…You accompany me through the wind and rain, I will give you my blessing…”
Her voice was beautiful as she was singing the moving melody in a clear, bell-like tone. There was a hint of sorrow in her voice, tugging at the heartstrings of the audience.
Her melodies lingered in the air and echoed around the bar. Murmurs of admiration at her performance soon went up.
“What a splendid performance!”
“That’s not enough! One more song!”
“Singing is no fun! Gorgeous, you’ve such good figures! Why don’t you dance for us?”
“Yes, dance for us!”
The crowd looked excited as they clamored for Nancy to dance.
Unable to excuse herself from it, Nancy performed a classical dance to meet the customers’ requests.
After Nancy went backstage, she could not help but rant, “The customers are so fussy! Not only did I have to sing, but I also had to dance?”
She picked up the makeup remover wipe to remove her makeup and changed into her own clothes.
“Nancy, you have a beautiful voice. I knew you could sing, but I didn’t know that you’re good at classical dancing too. It was so beautiful.”
“Hehe, Kathy. My mom taught me how to dance when I was young.”
It was already past midnight when they came out of the bar.
Kathleen said goodbye to Nancy and took a cab home. John had not come home yet.
After washing up, she lay on her bed and fell into a peaceful sleep.
However, her room door was slammed open with a bang in the middle of the night. Shocked, Kathleen opened her eyes abruptly. “Who is it!”
