And Cao Yan’s guess had hit the mark.
After the darkness, his surroundings were completely different.
The surging waves, boundless ocean, and boat under Cao Yan’s feet had changed into a flat, black, and shiny surface. It was apparent that the fake system had used some power to move him into an unknown space.
The moment before he vanished from the deck, Cao Yan saw the giant mussel that he had caught quickly close its shell. At the same time, it shot a stream of liquid out to form a little spurt and ejected itself out of the boat and back into the ocean.
“This world is indeed filled with a lot of strange creatures.”
Cao Yan looked around at the unknown place where he was “held captive”.
It was a few hundred squares feet wide square. The walls were six to seven meters tall and their top was gleaming with a starry glow. The room was rather dark, but it made one feel comfortable.
What amazed Cao Yan was the huge control panel in the front that panned out in a semicircle. It seemed to be taken out of a science fiction movie, clearly a result of some sort of high technology.
Could this be a base for experimenting with black technology?
Cao Yan studied the control panel. Only the wall on that side was transparent, seemingly made of a glass-like material.
It was a pity that it was pitch black outside the window, so there was nothing to see.
Cao Yan was looking around when the voice from his consciousness said, “With your limited knowledge and experience, it would be tough for you to guess what place this is. This is the interior of a spaceship that travels across the vast space of time.”
“Spaceship?”
Cao Yan was astounded.
His imagination was limited by his knowledge. He never thought that he would be in a spaceship, which explained his shock. Suddenly, the blue face of an Avatar flashed past his mind.
However, the voice in his consciousness didn’t stop to let him recover. “This spaceship has been to countless stars during the long course of time, visiting planets that gave birth to wisdom and civilization. It is an advanced creation from the extraterrestrial universe, while I am the artificial brain of this spaceship.”
Cao Yan suddenly understood. “So, you’re a computer created by aliens?”
“That’s not entirely accurate. This is a biological spaceship. It can evolve and grow on its own, while I am a biological robot that is very difficult for you to comprehend at the moment. I am the kind that has a life of its own.” The artificial brain had emotions in its voice for the first time, sounding like a proud little swan.
Cao Yan thought for a while. “Why did you look for me to be the host?”
“You’re the right one.”
The artificial brain explained slowly, “The extraterrestrial being who created this spaceship belongs to a peace-loving race. His original purpose in creating me was to study the hundreds of millions of life forms in this universe, trace them back to their origin, and also explore the secrets of space and time! As to why you’re chosen to be the host, just take it as we are doing research on species.”
“Research? So, I am just a lab rat that you’ve chosen?”
Most of the lab rats ended up being euthanized or vivisected and that made Cao Yan feel terrible.
“Host, you’re mistaken. Please believe me. I mean no harm to you at all. The relationship between us is equal and collaborative.”
The voice in his consciousness said calmly, “The plane you transmigrated to is known as the Green Jungle. There are various types and species of animals there, so it has a very high research value. Furthermore, this world has all kinds of supernatural occupations. If you wish to leave your mark in this world, the structure can be of strong support for you.”
The artificial brain continued, “This spaceship has visited several civilizations and has done many related tests. There are embryonic genes from hundreds of millions of powerful animals. As long as you complete the mission set by the artificial brain, you will be able to obtain mission points that you can use to exchange for the wide array of inventions in the spaceship’s storage. These would include demon pets, legendary animals, and also extraterrestrial technology knowledge or equipment!”
There was no stopping to the long explanation as the voice chattered on. “This spaceship can activate the genetic sequence to fertilize the different animals in the gene bank as the host’s reward.”
Cao Yan had to admit that the advantages mentioned were so damn enticing.
Although he was swayed, he maintained a calm front because there was no such thing as a free lunch. “From what you said, it’s a collaboration between the two of us and I would need to do something in exchange for these rewards?”
“This is a long experimental process. As you grow, the spaceship would naturally obtain what it wants. What I need to remind you is, other than the mission points, you can also exchange the objects in this spaceship with other rare objects from the Green Jungle. You can think about how you would like to obtain more objects. Moreover, the host can decide for himself how he would like to grow. Hence, there is no need for you to be suspicious. You just need to accept this collaboration with the spaceship.
“I’ve already answered some of the host’s queries. If you do not have any objections, I will now assign the host his first mission. We shall officially begin this collaboration.”
Immediately, a screen interface with rows of words appeared in front of Cao Yan:
[Newbie Mission:
According to the artificial brain’s deduction, there are many supernatural occupations in the Green Jungle. The host has the biggest potential to grow as a demon pet trainer. Your mental capabilities have been through space traveling and have also absorbed some of those left behind by the original host. This makes your mental power stronger than others, so a demon pet trainer or a mage would be the most suitable occupation for you since these two occupations work fundamentally on mental capabilities. With the spaceship’s support, taking on the role of a demon pet trainer would be better than a mage for you.]
[The first mission as a demon pet trainer: Capture your first demon pet]
[Mission location: Demon Exhibition Center at Magic Metropolis, Ocean City, in Green Jungle]
[Reward: This is a newbie mission, so it would be a simple process with a big reward. The reward for the completion of the mission is a primary skills manual for demon pet trainers (can be acquired upon completion of the mission, no points exchange needed)]
Please start your mission straight away.
The artificial brain’s analysis of the occupation as a demon pet trainer made sense. Although Cao Yan had always wanted to be a rebel ever since he was young, to be a supervillain flying around in the sky and do whatever he wanted without a care about the law, the world he had transmigrated to was not one where he could fulfill his dreams. There was no option for him to choose to be a devil or a supervillain, so a demon pet trainer was not that bad. He might even be able to ride a dragon in the future.
“I’m fine with being a pet trainer as my main occupation. However, since it’s the main occupation, are there other side occupations as well?” asked Cao Yan.
“That’s right. However, the main occupation is your primary occupation, so there can only be one of it. As for your side occupations, there is no limit to the numbers.”
The fake system continued, “Since you have accepted the demon pet trainer as your main occupation, you’ve successfully lit up your personal skills tree! Please work hard to capture your first demon pet trainer and obtain the skills manual for your main occupation!”
