Demon Pets’ Black Tech Nest - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: Campy Evolution

Cao Yan looked down and watched as the black ball contracted, then slowly elongated. It did seem to be a worm, being plump like a black silkworm.
He had high expectations of his first demon pet, especially after discovering that it came from beyond this world and was sealed in the golden amber for a century without dying. Keeping in view the mysteriousness, he believed it should be a powerful and awe-inspiring organism.
However, it was just a worm.
That was obviously below Cao Yan’s expectations. It would be a lie to say that he was not disappointed at all.
The strange black worm was a round lump. It had a black surface that did not appear to be its skin, but rather, a layer of shell. It did not have any features like eyes, ears, mouth, nose, or legs, so it was difficult to precisely tell what kind of organism it was.
“This is its initial stage when it first awakens; it has yet to completely reveal its true form. Cao Yan, drop your blood on it to form a binding contract before it’s ‘born’. This organism will become your demon pet upon its ‘birth’.”
“What is this contract?”
“Since you’ve yet to officially become a demon pet trainer, I’ll guide you on your first contract binding. Blood has a relatively complete personal DNA, so just drop your blood on it.”
Cao Yan found a little knife on the boat and pierced his finger with gritted teeth. He dropped a single drop of blood on the surface of that plump black worm, and almost immediately, the blood formed a strange pattern. After glowing a few times, it slowly seeped into the worm and disappeared.
At the same time, Cao Yan felt an inexplicable spiritual connection with the worm in his hand. He was amazed.
“You can put it down now,” the fake system in his subconscious said.
Screech!
When Cao Yan put the plump worm on the deck, a screeching sound rang by his ear. Despite not being loud, it seemed to have the force to shake one’s heart and soul. It was a malevolent sound.
Cao Yan watched, with his mouth agape, as the plump worm rolled around clumsily. It moved away from the deck of the boat’s bow and dropped into the sea.
After that, it started to expand at an astonishing rate. It quickly grew from the size of a fist to a soccer ball, then to a basketball…
“It’s absorbing the seawater?”
“Not just that. To be exact, it’s absorbing all organic and inorganic material to store energy for its first evolution.”
The fake system quickly answered Cao Yan’s question, whose attention was grabbed by another stunning sight.
Black gas had started to emerge from the surface of the plump worm. It pushed the surrounding seawater away to form a big hole at the surface of the sea. Since they were close to the shore, the seawater was not deep. The plump worm sank four to five meters straight down to the sea’s bottom after pushing the water away and started sucking in the soil, sand, and even corals and organisms on the stones at the seabed. It sucked everything, including the sea creatures like fishes, prawns, and crabs, like a ravenous monster.
A few prawns and fishes were swimming lazily beneath the surface of the sea when calamity befell them. At first, a few crabs waved their pincers at the plump worm unyieldingly. However, the worm grew larger in size in the blink of an eye, and it was already too late when they wanted to escape. Hence, they were soon enveloped by the black gas and engulfed instantly.
“How hungry is it? It’s eating so much. Don’t tell me it’s going to be a glutton? Feeding this fellow alone would be a huge burden in the future. Fake system, will you be responsible for providing food for the demon pet?” Cao Yan voiced his worries.
“The demon pet’s food can be hunted or bought by the host.”
“That means money is going to be an issue.” Cao Yan watched as the plump worm moved from the bottom of the sea to the shore and started to swallow the grass and trees on the land, including a huge striped snake that had slithered out of a tree. Everything was covered by the black mist, corroded, and then devoured, leaving nothing behind at all.
Cao Yan watched as a few giant trees, which would take several people to hug, were quickly eaten cleanly. Even the roots were consumed, creating a massive hole in the ground.
Wherever the worm went, there was nothing left around it.
The most important thing was, where did all the things it had eaten gone to? It stopped growing after reaching the size of a basketball.
Pfft! Pfft!
The surface of the plump worm suddenly cracked open and two black blade-like hooks emerged. Next, the hooks anchored it on the ground, and it started to move even faster, as though it had grown legs.
In the next half an hour, Cao Yan just sat at the deck of the boat. He blankly watched the plump worm’s outer shell crack open several times as it evolved to have eight limb-like extensions. It soon started to change ferociously.
Finally, after it ate up an old tortoise-like forest creature, its main body cracked open to reveal a head covered in a sticky liquid.
Now, the initial round ball had become its body, its abdomen specifically.
Its shape became increasingly distinct.
It had a head, a large abdomen, and four sharp limbs at the front and the back. It was black in color, and its newly opened eyes were gleaming under the forest light.
This thing had completed its first evolution since its “birth”. It was a peculiar black spider around half the size of a human!
A spider could also be called Laya or Dihu.
Am I supposed to become Spiderman of a foreign world!
Cao Yan thought inside. Based on his past gaming experience, the spiders were weak, low intelligence, and inferior defense creatures. It could even be said to be complete trash. The one he had… might seem pretty scary and fierce on the outside, but its head and abdomen looked a little funny, just like two eggs skewered together.
At the same time, that spider paused at the shore. It raised its front two limbs and let out a soft, weird sound, as though it had detected Cao Yan’s thoughts. The action displayed its high spirituality.
“Isn’t that drop of blood supposed to bind us together in a master-subordinate relationship? Why doesn’t that thing appear friendly to me?” Cao Yan asked.
“This spider… surprised me a little. The contract was actually insufficient to suppress it and make it your demon pet. It is currently trying to break free from the contract. This is a very rare case.”
“So what should I do now?”
Cao Yan was feeling uncomfortable. His head started to hurt, and the pain intensified with each passing moment, as though something was eating his soul up.
Cao Yan suddenly understood that his headache had something to do with the demon spider flailing its legs around onshore. It was trying to break free of his control. If it succeeded, Cao Yan would not only fail to tame it and make it his demon pet, but his soul and his mental capacity might also be eaten up by this spider because of their spiritual connection.
Cao Yan would probably end up as this spider’s puppet in the end.
That would be the biggest joke. A spider having a human as a pet. Ridiculous!
“Please beckon the Personal Aide Structure and select the mission items tab.” The fake system’s speech was still as slow as ever, and that was driving Cao Yan crazy.
The so-called aide structure was an interface that every system would have. The fake system made one as well.
Cao Yan was the only one who could see it. He did not know the principle behind it and how everyone became blind to it.
After the fake system finished its words, the interface appeared in the air. There was indeed a mission items icon. Cao Yan reached out to select it, and a ray of light shone out from the screen and onto his hand.
