Chapter 14: Somehow Got First Blood

Swoosh! Everyone in the party was enveloped by a golden glow and the achievement of killing the first Alpha Wolf in the game.
Nocturne was a few EXP shy from leveling up before starting the raid. Now, with the EXP he got from killing the boss and the First Blood achievement, it boosted him to Level 8, almost Level 9.
“Congratulations for taking First Blood for Level 10 boss, Alpha Wolf. Acquired reward: 5,000 EXP, 5 Gold, 500 reputation with all Castellans.”
It was then that the system started to spam congratulatory messages for every player.
“Congratulations to the party, Dreaming Back to Great Tang! Under the great leadership of player Beitang Meng, the party successfully achieved First Blood on Level 10 boss, Alpha Wolf. Player Beitang Meng, Wind&Rum, Mayday, Faraway Song, Nocturne, acquires reward: 5,000 EXP, 5 Gold, 500 reputation with all Castellans.”
A few seconds later, more congratulatory messages appeared.
“Congratulations to player Beitang Meng for being the first Level 10 in the game. Ranking system will now begin. Player Beitang Meng acquires a reward: 5,000 EXP, 5 Gold, 500 reputation with all Castellans.”
“Finally, First Blood! Well then, shall I check the loot?” Beitang Meng took a deep breath.
“Hold up!” It was Wind&Rum and Mayday, in their ghost form, who stopped her. The cold and cool handsome guy Faraway Song might be quiet but he stared at Beitang Meng nervously.
“What…” Beitang Meng responded with an embarrassed look.
“You should know how unlucky your hands are!” Wind&Rum seemed to be close with Beitang Meng as she voiced her complaints directly to her face.
“Yeah! This is our first boss raid in the wild! The loot will determine the speed of our first dungeon raid! Sister Beitang, you better think about it first.” Mayday sounded courteous but the meaning was self-explanatory.
“I’m not going to comment on this.” Faraway Song decided to keep quiet when he saw the two ladies staring at him, he did not want to comment on Beitang Meng’s luck.
“Okay then, who should access the loot?” Beitang Meng might not agree with it but for the sake of the guild’s development, she endured it.
“Ermmm, I think Nocturne has quite the luck. Didn’t you say he got a lot of nice things?” Mayday said after some serious thought.
“Agree. He sounds like a good candidate,’ Wind&Rum said, expressing her agreement.
Nocturne had a feeling that as long as it was not Beitang Meng, both Wind&Rum and Mayday were fine with anyone accessing the loot.
Faraway Song remained quiet.
“Okay then. Nocturne, you will access the loot.” Beitang Meng found the suggestion reasonable, so she told Nocturne to touch the Alpha Wolf’s body.
“Okay. Don’t blame me if we don’t get anything nice.” Nocturne was confident with his luck but he had to add a layer of precaution just in case.
“Don’t worry. As long as you are not as unlucky as Beitang, getting First Blood on the boss will surely give something good,” Wind&Rum said without showing much concern.
With his party member’s assurance, Nocturne touched the Alpha Wolf’s body.
The party was then spammed with a series of notifications.
“Acquired: Wolf Fang Dagger, Alpha Wolf Leather Armor, Wolf Pack Guardian Shield, Skill Book: Shield Bash, Small Talent Stone x 20, Alpha Wolf’s Head.”
The gear was waiting for the party leader for allocation and as for the Small Talent Stones, they were automatically distributed to every party member evenly.
“Wow! What a lucky start! I saw a shield and a skill book! I’m drowning in happiness!”
Wind&Rum was over the moon when she saw the notifications from the system.

“Hahaha! Nocturne is really lucky! They are all wonderful items! I love you!” Wind&Rum started to tease Nocturne.
“Oh my god! I’m so sad! There’s nothing I can use!” Mayday was defeated by the outcome.
Faraway Song remained quiet as usual, he never had any substantial presence from the start.
“Mhmm, you are quite lucky. I have a suggestion: the shield is important to us in our exploration, we really can’t afford to let it go. Why don’t we give you the Alpha Wolf’s Head and you can submit the quest with it. What do you say?” Beitang Meng suggested.
“Sure. I’m not an explorer anyway and I haven’t performed a class change. I might still have second thoughts about becoming a Protection Paladin. Taking such a nice shield will be a waste anyway. I’m okay with the wolf head, my priority now is to get to Level 10 and leave the starting village,” Nocturne agreed happily.
“Okay then. It’s settled.”
After Beitang Meng allocated the loot, she parted with Nocturne. She was in a hurry to leave the village because the sooner she left, the more advantage she would get.
Nocturne planned to clear some fishing spots before bed and then submit the quest back in the village.
He did several fishing spots in a short time but all he got was junk. It somehow felt normal this time, getting junk from boxes.
When he got back to the village, he went straight to the chief.
“Chief, look what I brought you!” Nocturne then took the Alpha Wolf’s Head out from his back for the chief.
“Hoho! Isn’t this the head of the Alpha Wolf? Nocturne! You’ve done a great deed for our village! I don’t have anything nice here but I have some skill books with me. I got the skills books when I was young and adventurous, you can pick one out of three.”
The chief took the wolf head happily and presented three skill books for Nocturne to choose.
“The reward is this lucrative?!”
Nocturne thought he would get some gear and EXP from the quest, he did not expect to get skill books.
At a closer look, he noticed the three skill books were Holy Smite, Judgment, and Fortitude Halo.
After a quick research, Nocturne found out that all three of the skills were basic skills, no wonder the quest would reward him with the skill book.
“Chief, I would like to have the Fortitude Halo.”
