Chapter 40: The One Ring
On the second day, Nocturne slept longer than usual, he only opened his eyes around 10:00 a.m. in the morning. If it was not for Chubby Blue stepping on his face, he would have continued sleeping.
After breakfast, he entered the game and teleported to Lake Town.
Last night before he slept, he did some research about the game’s fishing system and found out that someone said there was a quest about fishing available in Lake Town.
The reward was a fishing rod that adds 5 points into fishing mastery but it could only be equipped at Fishing 150.
Nocturne’s current mastery level was more than enough. He was already at 160 before Angler’s Paradise and together with the extra stats from his gear, he made it to 200.
After Angler’s Paradise, his fishing mastery reached a new high and in addition to his gear, he was already at 250 mastery points.
After getting the quest from Lake Town, he decided to head to a higher level lake to fish. He checked the map for the location and as he made his way there, he killed countless monsters that got in his way.
Finally, after an hour, he made it.
The lake was quite big and it had quite a number of fishing spots. Nocturne nodded, he got to a comfortable spot and started fishing.
The lake’s recommended level was 18 and it should give him a number of higher tier fish.
After putting down his fishing chair, he sat on it and skillfully set up his rod. The bait was loaded on the hook and the line was swiftly cast into the water.
“Phew, fishing is the best.”
Nocturne laid back and enjoyed the peace and quiet from fishing.
When he felt a tug from his fishing rod, he pulled himself together and started to reel it in. Maybe because of his higher fishing mastery, or maybe because he used a Night Bug as bait, he did not have to wait long for the fish to take the bait.
He fought the fish for a while before he smoothly reeled it in.

“Yeah, this should be it. This is the special fish that the quest needed.”
According to the original poster that posted the thread on the forum, it was rather difficult to fish this rare fish. The guy only got five after fishing for an entire day.
Nocturne was certain that the guy did not have his ability to look for fishing spots, or the guy’s fishing mastery was not that high, otherwise he would not have only gotten five fish after a whole day.
He got three Sunscale Salmon before the fishing spot went dark. He kept the fish in the bucket before heading to the next spot.
It was then that he noticed something interesting about his skill, Locate Fishing Spot. He spotted some floating fragments.
Locate Fishing Spot’s skill highlighted some fragments around some floating logs on the surface of the water.
At first glance, Nocturne knew it was a special fishing spot, he ran over with his fishing rod and started fishing.
[Acquired: Tightly Sealed Box]
The special fishing spot gave him just a box before it disappeared. Nocturne had a feeling that he might get something good from the box, so he sat down and opened it.
[Opened Tightly Sealed Box. Acquired: The One Ring]
[The One Ring (Great)]
[Character Binds]
[Ring]
[1 Magic Resistance]
[+1 to all stats]
[Requirement: Level 10]
[Note: This is slightly weaker than The Two Ring]
At first glance, Nocturne despised the ring.
“What in the… +1 to all stats?”
If he did not look at the note, he would have thrown it away.
Judging from the note, this ring should be a part of a set, though he had no idea how to acquire them.
“Hmmm, I can’t find a use for it now but I might get a special quest or learn some special method to activate it in the future. Let’s just save it for now.”
Nocturne continued to the next fishing spot, hoping that he could get more special fish. However, even after he cleared out all the fishing spots, he did not get anything except for a tone of Waterproof Boxes.
He decided to wash his hands by the lake before the opening.
Unfortunately, he got nothing good either. All he got was a bunch of garbage and two green gear, he did not even get a recipe. Though he got himself a fishing skill book but he had no idea how good it was.
[Intermediate Fishing Guide: The Art of Baiting]
[Character Binds]
[Book]
[Usage: Permanently increase 10 Fishing mastery points and teach you how to make your own bait.]
[Requirement: Fishing (200)]
He used it and the familiar video tutorial appeared. After he finished the tutorial, the game informed him of the 10 Fishing mastery point increase and the knowledge to make his own bait.
He opened up his skill tab and saw a new bait-making skill there, it also came with three formulas.
The first two formulas were for normal fish bait and Night Bug fish bait, the last one was worm bait.
Nocturne knew about using worms as bait. He could get it by killing a specific worm monster and the auction certainly had some of it.
As for Night Bug, Nocturne had never seen it elsewhere.
After clearing all the fishing points, Nocturne got to a comfortable spot and continued fishing normally.

…
It seemed like he could fish Sunscale Salmon out of the fishing spot. He believed it must be either the bait or the fishing gears he put on.
It made sense though. If one could not get rare fish without Locate Fishing Spot, then the skill would be unbalanced, the guy from the forum would probably start a riot if he found out.
Nocturne thought he could fish comfortably and in peace until night but he was startled when he felt a strong tug from his rod. The tug almost pulled the rod away from him.
Startled, Nocturne grabbed his rod tightly. He thought it was some kind of new and rarer fish that took the bait.
He had to fight for a while before he managed to pull the fish that took the bait.
When it got out of the water, Nocturne realized it was not a fish but an eel, a Stonescale Eel, Level 20 normal monster.
He was Level 17 and he was three levels behind the monster. However, it was not much of a problem because the Stonescale Eel could barely move after coming out of the water, he could simply throw some ranged skills at it and kill it slowly.
Nocturne swapped into his combat gear and threw a little hammer glowing in holy energy at the monster.
Judgement!
The “fight” was much easier than expected. Maybe because the monster was a fish and it was weakened on the ground, he was able to block all the simple jumps and bite.
He was able to take it out after a while.
[Acquired: Stonescale Eel]
“Right… I forgot this is a game. Way a go…”
From there, he would fish a Stonescale Eel from time to time and it felt like when he was fighting murlocs at the river.
Fighting a monster three levels higher than him gave him quite the amount of EXP and the fight was easy.
Plus the EXP he got from fishing, even though he might not catch up with normal EXP farming but he was not far behind.
The fishing continued until the sky turned dark.
New fishing spots spawned as it got darker. Nocturne quickly set up camp in front of some concentrated fishing spots.
The campfire he built shed light on the dark lake.
“Hehehe, I’m well-prepared. I will not miss the rare fish at night now!”
