Chapter 37: I Want a Divorce

Gao Xiaoxiao immediately let go of his shirt and lowered her head, pretending to be calm.
One second, she was heartbroken over her ex-boyfriend, and the next, she was hugging her current ‘husband’ in the hallway… Gao Xiaoxiao could not help but wonder if she was being capricious.
Han Zhen looked at her, adjusted his clothes, and held her little hand. “Let’s go.”
Gao Xiaoxiao was forced to follow him, but she realized that they were not going to the hall but… the elevator.
“Aren’t… aren’t you going to tell Dad and Mom?” Gao Xiaoxiao stuttered. Although she wanted to leave, Han Zhengming and Zhong Yuhong were still waiting in the hall.
‘When they arrived at the elevator, Han Zhen stopped and looked at her teasingly. “Look at me, can I go tell them?”
Gao Xiaoxiao did not understand until she followed the direction of his hand. Her head buzzed and her face reddened immediately.
Han Zhen’s clothes were all wrinkled. One look and one could tell that… it was very ‘intense’ just now, especially on the chest area of his white shirt. There was an obvious lipstick stain… She had just left the mark there.
He could not possibly meet people in this state.
“Ding!” The elevator door opened and Han Zhen pulled the coy little woman in.
In the hall.
Gu Liging arrived late after dressing up meticulously. She looked around the venue but did not see Han Zhen. She was feeling a little dejected.
She glanced at Gu Xiangbei and the Han family who were greeting each other and walked over to join them. She looked at the beautiful Han Minxia and praised, “Little Uncle, is this your girlfriend from England? She’s so pretty.”
Han Minxia peeked at Gu Xiangbei shyly. She had just brought him over to meet her parents. Now that Gu Liging was fussing over her, she felt even happier.
Unexpectedly, Gu Xiangbei picked up his wine glass and downed it in one gulp. His tone was distant and cold. “You must have drunk too much. What nonsense are you spouting?”
Gu Liging’s face stiffened. She thought it was bad enough to call someone half a year younger than her ‘Little Uncle’, but he had to embarrass her in front of outsiders!
Han Minxia’s face turned pale instantly as she looked at Gu Xiangbei, aggrieved and heartbroken.
Han Zhengming and Zhong Yuhong’s expressions did not look good either. They had thought that Gu Xiangbei was handsome, had a decent manner of speech, and had a good family background. They wondered why he was cutting ties with their own daughter now.
Gu Xiangbei placed the empty wine glass on the side table and said, “Sorry, I’m not feeling well. I’l make a move first.”
Then, without waiting for Han Zhengming and Zhong Yuhong to speak, he tured and left.
Han Minxia instinctively wanted to follow him, but Zhong Yuhong grabbed her arm and warned her in a low voice, “Xiaxia!”
Han Zhengming cleared his throat and changed the subject. “Xiaxia, have you seen your brother?”
Gu Liging pricked up her ears.
Han Minxia was in a bad mood and snapped, “I don’t know!”
Everyone was silent.
Meanwhile, Han Zhen drove Gao Xiaoxiao home.
It was still early. Due to the incident in the hallway earlier, Gao Xiaoxiao felt that the atmosphere in the car was strange. At the thought of going back to the same place, she felt a little awkward.
She did not know what Han Zhen was thinking. They had been married for three years, but this was the first time the two of them had such intimate contact… “Could he tell that there was something between me and Gu Xiangbei* she wondered.
At the thought of this possibility, Gao Xiaoxiao’s internal dialogue became even more complicated. One Gu Liging was enough to give her a headache, and now there was Gu Xiangbei.
Although Gu Xiangbei did not say anything today, the truth could not be hidden for long. Moreover, he was no longer as gentle and harmless as before. It seemed to her that he had become imperceptible and very dangerous.
Then she looked out of the car window and suggested, “Shall we go to the hospital to visit Grandma?”
She hoped that her grandma would recover as soon as possible. That way, she could get a divorce and escape from having to live in fear
Han Zhen nodded noncommittally and drove straight to The First People’s Hospital.
In the VIP ward of the hospital, Old Madam Han was feeling bored. She had set up a small square table and was playing ‘Fight the Landlord’ with Auntie Lian and the nurse.
“Old Madam, I heard from madam this morning that they will be meeting young miss’s boyfriend in the afternoon,” Auntie Lian said with a smile as she touched her cards.
Old Madam Han sighed regretfully. “I won’t be able to see him. Forget it, let’s wait until next time.”
“Please rest assured. I think that this good thing is definitely coming soon,” Auntie Lian consoled her.
Old Madam Han smiled. “I’m not in a hurry with Xiaxia’s matter. What I’m most anxious about are Ah Zhen and Little Xiaoxiao.”
Auntie Lian nodded. “Young Master is not young anymore. He should become a father.”
“Of course.” Old Madam Han took out a Red Heart 3. “I’ve worked so hard this time. I must trick them into agreeing to have a child before I’m discharged!”
“.. Grandma?”
An uncertain voice suddenly sounded. Old Madam Han’s hand trembled and the cards in her hand fell to the floor.
Han Zhen placed his hands in his pockets and pursed his lips. He looked in exasperation at the anxious old lady.
He had guessed that there was something fishy about the matter, but he did not expect Old Madam Han to be so indifferent. Not only was she playing ‘Fight the Landlord’ in the ward, but she did not even bother to close the door, which was why they heard everything clearly
Gao Xiaoxiao’s eyes widened as she walked in. She sized Old Madam Han up in disbelief. “Grandma, your, your body…”
“.. Uh, ah, oh…” Old Madam Han stuttered. As she glared at Auntie Lian, she muttered in her heart, “Didn’t they say that they were going to the gala today? Why did they suddenly come to the hospital?”
Auntie Lian lowered her head in frustration.
Gao Xiaoxiao looked at the old lady’s guilty expression and was both angry and amused. “Grandma, you’re not injured…”
Old Madam Han could not pretend anymore. She stood up and said bluntly, “I just want you guys to give me a big, golden grandchild! Otherwise, would I have suffered so much on a hot day?”
Gao Xiaoxiao pursed her lips, at a loss for words.
Han Zhen walked over to support Old Madam Han. “Grandma, don’t be anxious about this…”
“How can I not be anxious? You’re almost 30!” When Old Madam Han heard this, she was angry. She shook off Han Zhen’s arm and pointed at his nose as she said, “I’ve already seen the newspaper today. If Xiaoxiao can tolerate it, I can’t! Today, I want you to give me an answer. Either you two divorce or
you immediately have a great-grandchild for me to hug! Take your pick!”
Han Zhen frowned. “Alright, it seems that grandma is really angry this time,” he thought.
Old Madam Han looked at her grandson’s worried expression and felt satisfied. She was about to force a choice out of him.
“Grandma, I’m sorry…” Gao Xiaoxiao clenched her fists and said,” I… want a divorce.”
