Gao Xiaoxiao instantly tensed up and clenched her fists subconsciously.
Han Zhen looked at the suddenly nervous Gao Xiaoxiao and chuckled. He loosened his grip on her hair and put his arm around her shoulder.
Then he lowered his head and whispered into her ear, “Don’t worry, your hubby is here.”
Gao Xiaoxiao was again flustered by his display of affections. She felt his warm breath on her ears and cheeks, and her heart was thumping wildly.
She seemed to be… even more nervous!
“Grandma, mom! I’m back!” Accompanied by a whiff of fragrance, Han Minxia, who was wearing a light yellow dress, appeared like a little butterfly.
Gao Xiaoxiao held her breath, looked past her, and was secretly relieved.
Accompanying Han Minxia was Han Zhengming, smiling with affection. Behind him, a few helpers were carrying suitcases. There was no sign of another man.
Han Zhen glanced at her and quietly pulled her into his arms.
Han Minxia soon discovered Han Zhen and Gao Xiaoxiao in the living room. She took off her high heels and pounced on them without changing into her slippers. “Brother, Sister-in-law! So you’re here too!”
She hugged Gao Xiaoxiao affectionately and tilted her head, looking her up and down with her big eyes. Then she pouted and said, “Sis-in-law, why are you no different from two years ago? You don’t seem to have changed at all.”
Gao Xiaoxiao smiled and said gently, “Xiaxia, you’re prettier than you were two years ago.”
Two years on and the delicate and pretty little girl now had the discreet charm of a little woman. With her excellent family background, it was no wonder that she could capture Gu Xiangbei’s heart in one fell swoop.
Han Minxia was a little embarrassed by the compliment. She shook Gao Xiaoxiao’s hand back and forth and said in a gentle, coy tone, “Little sister-in-law, you’re making fun of me again…”
“Xiaxia.” Old Madam Han interrupted her, “Where’s your boyfriend? Didn’t you say he is coming over today?”
Han Minxia paused. Then she let go of Gao Xiaoxiao’s hand and said, “Xiangbei said that he had an emergency at home, so he rushed back.”
Old Madam Han had been overwhelmed with anticipation for a few days. When she heard this, she was a little disappointed. She frowned and said, “Why didn’t you tell us yesterday? To think that your elder brother and sister-in-law are waiting here…”
Han Minxia pouted, looking a little aggrieved. “He left as soon as we got off the plane. How would I know?”
“This girl…” Old Madam Han hit the ground with her walking stick.
Zhong Yuhong quickly signaled to Han Minxia with her eyes.
Han Minxia understood what she meant and walked over. She hugged the old lady’s arm and said coyly, “Grandma, don’t be angry. I’ll call Xiangbei later and ask him to visit you immediately when he’s free, alright?”
When Old Madam Han saw that Han Minxia was still barefoot, she could not be bothered to be angry. She immediately said, “Hurry up and put on your slippers. Don’t catch a cold.”
Zhong Yuhong went to get her slippers while Han Minxia leaned her face on Old Madam’s shoulder. “Grandma, you still dote on me.”
…
Looking at the harmonious family in front of her, Gao Xiaoxiao stood obediently beside Han Zhen with a faint smile on her face, like a nonchalant spectator.
A low, pleasant male voice suddenly sounded above her head. “Well, Xiaxia is back, and Xiaoxiao and I have something to do in the afternoon. We’ll get going.”
Other than Gao Xiaoxiao, everyone in the room looked at Han Zhen in surprise.
Han Minxia sounded aggrieved. “Brother, why are you leaving as soon as I’m back? I wanted to chat with Sis-in-law.”
