Chapter 17: Surveillance
“Ahem, we received a report from the public that there might be abnormal creatures nearby, so we came to investigate.”
In the end, the old general was still experienced. Lei Ting automatically imagined “Uncle” as “Brother” and explained.
“Ah, oops, you’re finally here. I sent that email!”
Feng Ling completely portrayed the excitement of an ordinary person who had discovered a “big secret”.
However, he was not pretending to be excited. For the past few days, he had thought that the emails he sent out did not attract the attention of the officials and was even quite disappointed.
However, from the looks of it today, it seemed to be quite important.
The middle-aged man who spoke was even stronger than the masked man back then!
The two young men beside him were also quite strong. They were not ordinary constables at all.
As he spoke, his gaze “accidentally” landed on the black python in Lei Ting’s hand. His eyes immediately widened. “Don’t tell me this just came out today?”
Lei Ting shook his head and said, “I’m not sure. I met him on the way here. I saw that you were the only one living here nearby and wanted to ask about the situation. Since you sent the email, please cooperate with us and resolve the matter.”
“Cooperate, I’ll definitely cooperate! Come, come, come in quickly. I still have several documents here!”
Feng Ling opened the door and ushered the three of them in.
Lei Ting had been observing after entering the courtyard. When he saw Nine Rings and a surveillance screen, he couldn’t help but ask, “Why did you install so many surveillance cameras?”
“Ha, this is still for safety.” Feng Ling touched the back of his head and revealed an embarrassed smile. “I live alone here. It’s not safe in the wilderness.”
‘You live here alone?’ Lei Ting frowned.
“Yeah, so I set up as many surveillance cameras as I could to give myself a peace of mind.”
Feng Ling had already led the three of them to the surveillance camera as he spoke.
“This is what I recorded recently. There are quite a number of them.”
Feng Ling took out a flash drive and said, “But I don’t know why. The most I can do is film the appearance of those strange creatures. Any further and the surveillance will fail.”
“I doubt if they carry some of the weirder magnetic fields that affect the cameras.”
“Can you show me the flash drive?” Bai Run asked, stepping forward.
“Of course, if you hadn’t come, I’d have been prepared to deliver it tomorrow.” Feng Ling handed over the flash drive and sighed. “I don’t know if I was lucky or if there were other circumstances. Those things might have been near my house before, but they didn’t break into the yard.”
Bai Run had already placed the USB flash drive on his glasses. A piece of data flashed across the lens. The data had been transmitted.
“Bro, can you show us the full surveillance footage?”
Feng Ling nodded. “Of course.”
He wasn’t afraid of being exposed. In fact, he’d prepared two flash drives, three kinds of video.
One flash drive recorded the full video. The other flash drive was the one in Bai Run’s hand.
As for what was stored in the surveillance cameras, Feng Ling had also tampered with it.
He had not only studied smithing all these years. Otherwise, he would not have created a mechanical arm as intelligent as the “Nine Rings”.
He was quite confident in his skill in this area.
The surveillance footage began to play.
The first was the scene of the two-headed dog appearing out of thin air. However, when its figure appeared completely, the entire scene was spent. Then, five minutes later, the two-headed dog disappeared.
Then there was a large rooster with the head of a turtle. It was coming from a distance. Did it flap its wings and fly? But just the same, when it got close, the entire surveillance screen turned blurry. When it recovered, it had disappeared.
It was the same in multiple videos.
The three members of the Thunder Squad looked very serious.
Other than Feng Ling, no one around reported that they had discovered any abnormal creatures. However, there were more than ten videos.
This meant that at least a dozen unusual creatures had appeared.
However, none of these creatures knew where they had gone.
Had they gone back to where they had come from, or had they been dealt with, or… had they stayed?
‘Is it true that you happened to be in your yard when they came near it?’ Lei Ting asked quietly.
“Yes,” Feng Ling said with a nod. “In fact, I’ve been at the CCTV almost every night since I emailed you guys. I can’t sleep until I’m sure they’re gone.”
‘So did you hear any movement?’
“I think there really was—”
Feng Ling pretended to recall. “I think I heard someone’s voice. It seemed very solemn.”
“He probably said something like this: If you dare to appear in the mortal world, I’ll exorcise you! How dare you show off your insignificant skills in front of an expert? Great Law Mantra, Great Mighty Heavenly Dragon!!”
“Because the surveillance has failed, I couldn’t see the images. I don’t dare go out and look. When the images return, there will be nothing left.”
The three of them looked at each other. Lei Ting did not ask any more questions. Chen Hong took a step forward and stood in front of Feng Ling.
At some point, a mirror appeared in her hand.
This mirror was very simple. It had a small handle with mysterious patterns carved on the back, and the mirror’s surface rippled at this moment.
Chen Hong’s voice also took on a lazy tone. She turned the mirror around and looked at Feng Ling, chanting softly, “Forgetting, abnormal, monitoring… relief.”
Feng Ling felt the power of soul seep out of the mirror and slowly approach her.
Feng Ling could see Chen Hong’s intentions from these words.
She wanted to erase his memories of those abnormal creatures!
Feng Ling did not resist. Instead, he outlined their intentions.
His current soul power was much stronger than this. It was easy for him to confuse the other party.
Before long, Feng Ling had closed his eyes and was breathing evenly.
Chen Hong put down the mirror and nodded gently at Lei Ting.
During this period, Bai Run had already packed up all the surveillance cameras and deleted all the data.
‘Let’s go. We’ll have someone come and seal off the area tomorrow.’ Lei Ting glanced around the yard and sighed. ‘A common man like him might be happiest if he didn’t know anything.’
The three of them wiped away the traces of where they had been and left the courtyard.
Feng Ling opened his eyes after they had gone, his expression troubled.
He didn’t mean to lie. There were just a lot of things he couldn’t reveal.
And now he had achieved his goal. As long as the authorities took the matter seriously, that was enough.
On the other hand, Lei Ting and the others were already familiar with the process.
Of course he did. Lei Ting was right.
The more ignorant they were, the less stressful life would be.
Ordinary people did not know this, so they had fewer worries.
Except…
