Chapter 42: A Close Call

Chen Mo dashed across the room when Inoch’s movement speed was reduced.
The room was quite spacious. It was more than ten meters long and wide. Chen Mo had an advantage in terms of speed. He would not want to be forced into a corner, as he would have nowhere to run to if Inoch happened to have an AoE skill.
“Come here.”
Chen Mo gave the order to the Mutated Green Slime. It bounced and followed behind Chen Mo instead of attacking Inoch.
“You prick, where do you think you are running to?” Inoch’s goal was to catch Chen Mo. She quickly chased after him after missing the first attack.
However, she triggered the Basic Trap that Chen Mo tossed at her as soon as she started to move.
Chen Mo could only toss a trap to a distance of seven meters. It was not even a middle-range attack, but it was plentiful in the room where the battle was taking place.
Bang!
The Basic Trap exploded and further reduced Inoch’s movement speed!
The trap had surprisingly applied the Disabled debuff on Inoch despite the extremely low odds!
“Lucky!”
Minor Poison Bolt!
Chen Mo knew he could not afford to miss out on the opportunity. He quickly used the skill and fired a bolt at Inoch.
His weapon Minor Poison Bolt had the additional skill Minor Poison Bolt. Chen Mo’s Minor Poison Bolt was currently at the Beginner Level, which was slightly better than the Novice Level. Each of his attacks would deal an extra 7 poison damage to a target, and it could be stacked up to five times.
Chen Mo fired a bolt at Inoch. Inoch tried to dodge it, but she had no chance of dodging it at such a close distance, especially after her movement speed was reduced.
-211!
-7!
-25!
-200!
Four different damage indicators floated above Inoch’s head when the bolt landed on her.
The first red damage indicator was Chen Mo’s physical damage. The second, third, and fourth green indicators were inflicted by poison. The second and third indicators were from Minor Poison Bolt and Slime’s Poison respectively, and the last poison damage was the effect of his Minor Poison Crossbow.
Inoch had lost 600 HP including the damage that the Mutated Green Slime had dealt at the start.
“Not bad, Inoch’s defense isn’t high. Her HP isn’t too crazy either, it’s around thirty thousand,” Chen Mo felt even more confident after seeing the damage he dealt.
To some degree, the Mutated Slime King’s attributes were actually higher than Inoch’s, but he was able to use a little trick to slay the Mutated Slime King, whereas he had to face Inoch head-on.
“Stop her!”
Inoch furiously charged at Chen Mo. It went without saying that Chen Mo would not let her come any closer. The Assassin class was great at close combat. It was likely that Chen Mo would die in no time once Inoch was close enough to him.
Even though Chen Mo had failed to acquire a purple upper armor and head armor in the last two days, his equipment was unmatchable at Level 10. However, he could not afford to treat Inoch as a Level 10 Player either. Chen Mo could not guarantee that he could endure a series of attacks from Inoch with the amount of HP he had now.
The Mutated Green Slime obediently bounced around and kept Inoch busy.
Its attack had a hundred percent chance of poisoning its target to constantly lower the target’s defense and movement speed. Its attack was not high, but it was already quite impressive since the Slime was meant to be playing a supportive role.
Inoch was hit by the Mutated Green Slime again, resetting the duration of the debuff of reducing her movement speed when it was about to run out. She immediately went enraged.
“Bisecting Slash!”
The dagger emitted an icy flicker before slashing across the Green Slime in the middle.
A clean cut swept past the Mutated Green Slime’s body. The Mutated Green Slime acted as if its lower body was missing all of a sudden. It tried desperately to bounce closer to Inoch to attack her, yet it could no longer control its lower body. It would only stare at her in disbelief.
“Holy crap! I knew it!”
Chen Mo was even more alerted.
He could not afford to let Inoch catch up to him. Otherwise, he would not stand a chance against her at close distance!
Chen Mo knew his speed was his only hope. Even though he was almost wearing a full set of Purple Equipment, it had only given him a chance to fight Inoch. It did not necessarily guarantee him the victory. He believed once Inoch caught up to him, she would restrain him and send him to the Sacred Land of Condemnation!
After all, he believed the person that designed the quest never planned to let the Player complete the quest.
But then again, why didn’t the designer make Inoch invincible instead?
Chen Mo was slightly intrigued. It was something he did not understand still, but based on what he had learned, the Players had yet to discover any invincible NPCs in Genesis.
Chen Mo was able to attack Inoch a few times while she was busy with the Mutated Green Slime. Inoch’s HP had dropped by around two thousand. The Minor Poison Bolt and Slime’s Poison had stacked up five times and four times respectfully too. Inoch was now losing 135 HP every second. Together with Chen Mo’s attacks, Inoch was basically losing more than 300 HP every second.
After taking the Minor Poison Crossbow’s occasional effect into consideration, Inoch would die in less than three minutes at this rate!
However, Chen Mo knew things were not that simple. The Mutated Green Slime was no longer able to move around freely after it was attacked by Inoch. The Disabled debuff was gone too. When the reduction to movement speed from the Mutated Green Slime’s poison disappeared, Inoch’s speed increased significantly. She dashed at Chen Mo with an icy look.
Chen Mo attacked with his crossbow, but Inoch did not bother dodging it. She could not care less about the damage it would inflict on her.
The shameless adventurer was finally slower than her. She just needed to endure a few more hits. Once she caught up to the adventurer, he would have nowhere to run to!
“Heh! Trying to come closer to me? In your dream!”
Chen Mo surprisingly grinned at Inoch. The NPC was utterly confused when she noticed the adventurer’s speed increasing rapidly all of a sudden!
The title “The Corrupted”!
The Low-level Mutated Dexterity Potion!
Chen Mo equipped the title “The Corrupted” and consumed the Low-level Mutated Dexterity Potion within an instant, increasing his movement speed by 5!
Chen Mo did not equip the title “The Corrupted” before entering the room.
He was planning to rely on the Mutated Slime as long as he could. He did not want to expose his maximum speed if possible, since he did not know how Inoch would react according to it.
However, Chen Mo could no longer rely on the Mutated Green Slime. The Basic Traps were not reliable at slowing down Inoch either. If he hesitated any further, he would be done for once Inoch caught up to him.
“You can’t run away from me! Blitz!”
Inoch straightened her face when she saw Chen Mo’s speed increasing. She uttered fiercely as her figure blurred!
Crap!
Chen Mo knew Inoch might react differently once he increased his speed, but he did not expect it to come all of a sudden. If it was as he had guessed, Inoch would hit him with a blink attack in the next moment!
No one could possibly complete the quest!
There was a chance that the quest did not even have a reward when it was completed!
Chen Mo was even more confident with his initial speculation!
There was a great chance he might be detained the moment the attack landed on him!
However, Chen Mo did not wait for his defeat. He decisively used another skill the moment Inoch vanished into thin air.
Windspeed Evasion!
Bang!
A figure suddenly appeared in front of Chen Mo the moment he used the Windspeed Evasion, stabbing the dagger right into Chen Mo’s chest!
MISS!
However, the attack somehow missed!
The 20% evasion rate of the Windspeed Evasion had saved Chen Mo’s life!
Chen Mo burst out in cold sweat. He quickly went up to the Mutated Green Slime!
He might not be so lucky the next time!
He would never leave the Slime’s side if he knew the NPC had a move like that!
However, now that he knew the NPC’s move, he would never fall for it again!
A new plan was derived within the blink of an eye in Chen Mo’s mind!
