Doomsday Bunker Upgrade - Chapter 25
Chapter 25: First Meal In the Bunker!
“Simple Iron-Made Weapon Cabinet”
“Upgrade Plan A – Upgrade cabinet material, increase cabinet volume, add maintenance and modification functions, existing weapon technology level +1, upgrade required survival points 500.”
“Upgrade Plan B – Upgrade cabinet material, increase cabinet volume, add gun manufacturing module, obtain gun manufacturing blueprint +1, upgrade required survival points 450.”
Looking at the upgrade plan of the weapon cabinet provided by the system, Chen Xin realized that the upgrade function was not as simple as he had expected.
In other words, the upgrade function was much more powerful and advanced than he thought.
Technology level +1, manufacturing blueprint +1, those were entries that did not appear when Chen Xin checked on other items.
The other upgrades only showed what would be upgraded and the functions that would be acquired, there was no additional prompt stating things like XXXX +1.
Chen Xin was astonished by that discovery. The entries of technology level + 1 and manufacturing blueprint + 1 meant that Chen Xin could make and modify his high-tech firearms!
That made Chen Xin look forward to it. If he had continued upgrading, could he produce lightsabers and power armor…?
Chen Xin fantasized about the scene where he would polish a Gundam mobile suit with his hands in the future, and passionate tears flowed from the corners of his mouth. Which boy on Earth did not like robots?
Besides, the upgrade entry appeared on the cabinet as a whole, which meant that Chen Xin could pack things in a box or cabinet to upgrade them as a whole instead of one by one. That would completely change the game!
For example, Chen Xin had his eyes locked on the room he was in at that moment.
“Container-type Modular House – Bedroom Components”
“Upgrade Plan A – Upgrade container material, improve insulation, improve temperature regulation and air circulation, life support level +1, required survival points to upgrade 3000”
“Upgrade Plan B – Upgrade internal soft decoration materials, add smart home functions, living comfort level +1, overall technology level +1, required survival points to upgrade 4500”
When he saw the whole room in his field of vision light up and the upgrade plan emerging, Chen Xin’s mood became better. Being able to upgrade the bedroom also meant that he could upgrade the entire bunker.
Just imagine, would it not be more efficient if he could get an upgrade of bunker technology +1?
Furthermore, upgrading the bunker could also increase Chen Xin’s survivability in the doomsday era.
However, Chen Xin calmed down after he thought about those things. That was due to the survival points required for an upgrade.
It only required five points to upgrade a pen and one point for a self-heating meal, but the toolbox required a hundred points, the generator for two hundred, and the weapon cabinet for five hundred. It would cost more than a thousand points for a single room. Those numbers quickly sobered up Chen Xin, who had zero points.
Being able to upgrade an item or the bunker itself was wonderful, but the survival points could only be accumulated day by day and he did not know how many points he could obtain daily. In case he could only get one point a day, it would be impossible for him to save up enough to upgrade the entire bunker.
The system itself did not provide any relevant data, but it did explain that when the host’s survival conditions improved, there would be more points awarded daily.
Therefore, being in a situation where only one point was obtained a day should not happen. Plus in Chen Xin’s view, he should be able to obtain several points daily as he had his own bunker after all. Although the condition was not the best, it was still considered pretty good.
Chen Xin put aside his worries as he thought about it that way. He picked up and tore open the first generation self-heating food that he took out to verify the system’s ability, grabbed a bottle of mineral water, and prepared for dinner.
The acquisition of the system brightened up Chen Xin’s future, but it did not change the fact that it was doomsday and everyone was in a tough situation.
Even though Chen Xin had hoarded a large number of supplies before the disaster, he limited himself to only having one pack of self-heating food which could last 2 meals, and a 1.5-liter bottle of mineral water a day to avoid wastage.
Those were Chen Xin’s conditions for survival after doomsday began.
Even so, Chen Xin’s living condition was considered as good as he had thought when compared to many people.
At least Chen Xin had his private bunker which provided sufficient space for activities, adequate food reserves, and could generate electricity. He could even take out his electronic devices to play games and pass the time when the aftereffects of the EMP shockwaves had subsided.
In comparison to the people who were now crowded into bunkers that were repurposed from underground garages or air-raid shelters, Chen Xin’s living conditions were relatively exceptional.
Chen Xin had also paid attention to when the government announced information about the official bunkers, the survival conditions there were not bad. However, the living conditions there were much worse than in Chen Xin’s private bunker because so many people had to live together.
To say nothing of other things, when hundreds of people were living in the same bunker, access to drinking water and toilets would be two of the most difficult issues to circumvent.
After all, with the arrival of doomsday, a water supply would be the top issue faced by governments and many bunkers as the external temperature dropped.
Although the government had carried out emergency renovations to those facilities before, guaranteeing a sufficient supply of drinking water under a subzero temperature environment was still a serious issue.
As for the toilets, one could only imagine how bad a public toilet would look like when there were no janitors to clean them 24/7.
There would be hundreds of people that needed to eat and defecate every day. If there were no prior planning and management, it would be disastrous.
The country had taken precautionary measures in advance, but the period from the disaster warning to doomsday was too short. Even if Vermillion was an infrastructure powerhouse and had the best industrial infrastructures in the world, it had 1.3 billion citizens!
In just three months, the preparations made by the country could only guarantee that most people would survive, but it was impossible to let everyone live comfortably at the same time.
